AB  - Risk is involved in the whole lifecycle of a structure: design, construction, utilization and demolition. There is a close connection between reliability and risk. Contemporary building codes introduce consideration of the reliability in structural design. Here, the concept of risk takes into account the level of consequences of a failure. Structural engineers, used to deterministic calculation procedures, are often unfamiliar with the uncertainties associated with risk analysis. An overview of the basic principles of risk management in civil engineering is presented in this paper.

AB  - Shear design in Eurocode 2 is generally developed for rectangular sections or T-sections that have
clearly defined tension reinforcement, concentrated in the cross-sectional tension zone, and an
unambiguous width of compressed diagonals. In circular sections, which are also frequent in practice, the reinforcement is evenly distributed along the circumference of the section, while the width of the section changes continuously along the height.
Several proposals for the shear design of circular sections can be found in the literature, based on a relatively limited experimental database, which generally provide different structural resistances. This paper aims to enable the practical application of the Eurocode 2 variable-angle truss model in the shear design of elements of circular cross-section, such as columns or piles. It is intended to make a correct interpretation of the truss model with no intention to propose an improved procedure in accordance with the available experimental results.

Numerical modelling of concrete-filled steel tubular short columns under axial compression

AB  - The paper presents three-dimensional numerical models of short concrete-filled
steel tubular circular columns that can successfully describe the column behaviour
under axial compression. Several of the most commonly used material models for
the steel part and a concrete portion of the column are evaluated in the models. In
addition, the paper presents a new proposal for the extension of the Eurocode 2
stress-strain relation to make it suitable for describing the complex behaviour of
concrete inside the steel tube. This model overcomes the current limitations of the
Eurocode 2 design guide, referring to the limitation for the concrete curve in
compression to 3.5‰ strain. The ultimate axial column strength obtained by the
proposed model is compared to the ultimate column capacity calculated by a
simplified method provided in Eurocode 4. All presented numerical models are
validated on a set of experiments from the literature and demonstrate good
agreement. The comments about the accuracy of each model are provided, along
with the identified limitations.

AB  - The paper presents the numerical modelling of concrete-filled steel tube stub columns under axial compression. The nonlinear 3D finite element model for the analysis was developed using ABAQUS software. The modelling, boundary conditions, the constitutive models for steel and concrete and contact interaction between the steel tube and concrete surface are discussed in detail. AB  - Indirect deflection control usually applies the limitation of the span-to-depth
ratio. The procedures that have developed in the past decades have mostly
been derived for predefined values of some of the relevant parameters. Assigning
values to parameters simplifies the application of criteria. Predefined
values may not be suitable for all design situations and some of the recently
published procedures allow direct selection of relevant parameters. This paper
offers new expressions for span-to-depth ratio limits for deflection control.
Expressions include cross-section size, area, and position of tensile and compressive
reinforcement, mechanical and long-term properties of concrete and
deflection limit. The load level is represented by the stress in the tensile reinforcement
so that the ratio of live and total load can be arbitrary. The dimensionless
form of deflection calculation by numerical integration of the mean
curvature according to Eurocode 2 is used to formulate the expressions. The
proposed procedure is verified with a large number of numerical simulations
for different combinations of inputs. Measured long-term deflections, available
from the literature, are also used to test the procedure. The expressions are
suitable for both deflection control and conceptual design.

AB  - The tower and shopping mall are are designed as the second phase of the business and residential complex B65. The underground part of the building consist of a garege on two levels. That part forms a whole with the underground part of phase I that is shalow founded. The tower foundation is deep. A waterproof joints connect the underground part of the tower with the underground part of the rest of the B65 complex. The stability of the tower and resistance to horizontal forces is provided by a reinforced concrete core which is connected to the columns and beams on the facade by seismic walls..
AB  - Kula visine 154,93 m i tržni centar čine drugu fazu poslovno-stambenog kompleksa bloka B65. Podzemni deo objekta je garaža na dva nivoa i sa podzemnim nivoima faze I, koji su osam godna ranije izvedeni, čine celinu. Podzemne etaže tržnog centra i faze I su plitko fundirane u uslovima visokog nivoa podzemne vode i hidroizolacionim spojnicama povezanih sa podžemnim etažama kule koja je duboko fundirana, Prostornu stabilnost kule i otpornost na horizontalne uticaje obezbeđuje armiranobetosko jezgro koje je seizmičkim zidovima povezano sa stubovima i gredama na fasadi.

AB  - Propisi za projektovanje konstrukcija se u svetu kontinuirano unapređuju u skladu sa napretkom
tehnike i naučnih znanja. Poboljšanja se odnose na metode koje se koriste za proračun nosivosti
i upotrebljivosti konstrukcija, a takođe i na modele opterećenja. Od 2020. godine u Srbiji su u
primeni propisi za opterećenja mostova prema Evrokodu 1 SRPS EN: 1991-2. Modeli
saobraćajnog opterećenja koji se primjenjuju pri proračunu novih mostova baziraju se na
projekcijama saobraćaja u budućnosti i njihova upotreba u analizi postojećih mostova ne mora
da bude adekvatna. U ovome su radu se daje pregled modela saobraćajnog opterećenja drumskih
mostova prema propisima koji su korišćeni u Srbiji tokom dvadesetog veka, sa posebnim
osvrtom na nove propise.
AB  - Regulations for the design of structures are continuously improved in the world in accordance
with the progress of technology and scientific knowledge. The improvements relate to the
methods used in limit state design of structures, as well as to the load models. Since 2020.,
regulations for traffic loads on bridges according to Eurocode 1 SRPS EN: 1991-2 have been
established in Serbia. The traffic load models applied in the calculation of new bridges are based
on future traffic projections and their use in the analysis of existing bridges may not be adequate.
This paper provides an overview of the traffic load models for road bridges according to the
regulations used in Serbia during the twentieth century, with special reference to the new
regulations.

AB  - The design of concrete members for shear without stirrups, except for the
minimum required, has become a major issue worldwide. It was noticed that the shear
capacity of concrete element according to the Eurocode 2 often gives significant smaller
values than the one predicted by former codes. This fact brought into focus the assessment
of the existing structures which were built with minimum shear reinforcement. Most of the
Code provisions for shear for members without shear reinforcement are based on
empirical relationships. In general, Eurocode 2 doesn’t make a difference between
reinforced and prestressed elements. Several clauses in EN1992-1-1 which deal with the
shear design are critically reviewed in the paper.
AB  - Доказ носивости бетонских елемената на смицање који имају само
минималну попречну арматуру постао је учестао проблем. Примећено је да је
носивост на смицање бетонског елемента без прорачунске арматуре за смицање
према Еврокоду 2 може бити знатно мање вредности од оне предвиђене ранијим
кодовима. То је створило проблем при процени носивости постојећих конструкција
које су изведене без осигурања арматуром за смицање. Генерално, Еврокод 2 не
прави суштинску разлику између армирано-бетонских и претнодно напрегнутих
елемената и у већини питања третира их на исти начин. Неколико клаузула у
ЕН1992-1-1 које се баве контролом смицања су критички разматране у раду.

Verification of deflection according to Eurocode 2

AB  - Code provisions for a simplified check of the long-term deflection of concrete structures are generally developed for predefined values of the relevant input parameters. Deflection calculation may be of interest to account for different design situations. EN 1992-1-1 advocates the integration of curvatures calculated using the effective modulus of concrete. This paper presents an efficient procedure for calculation of the long-term deflection due to a sustained load. A nondimensional analysis of the mean curvature is applied to evaluate the deflection. The deflection is calculated using a set of algebraic expressions. The result is close to the value obtained by the numerical integration of curvatures. The values of relevant parameters in the expressions may be selected within the common range for the design of engineering structures. The efficiency of the deflection prediction based on the integration of curvatures is tested on the available experimental data. In the first approach, the measured material properties are used. In the second approach, the required values are derived from EN 1992-1-1 expressions to predict the material properties.

Fiber finite element in nonlinear analysis of square CFT columns

AB  - The paper presents nonlinear analysis of square CFT columns using distributed plasticity fiber elements. Behaviour of CFT columns is nonlinear and it is necessary to include different nonlinear effects into the numerical model in order to simulate their behaviour properly. Model proposed in this work considers: nonlinear behaviour of concrete and steel using nonlinear stress-strain models, confinement effect and geometrical nonlinearities. Tests exposed to static loading with different slenderness, different D/t ratio (where D is the total dimension of a cross section and t is the thickness of steel tube) and different loading conditions are analyzed. Stress-strain models that best approximate the behaviour of CFT columns are determined from a detailed parametric study. The proposed numerical model is validated by comparing numerical with experimental results available in the literature.
AB  - U radu je prikazana nelinearna analiza kvadratnih CFT stubova, pomoću fiber konačnog elemenata raspodeljene plastičnosti. CFT stubove karakteriše nelinearno ponašanje, što je potrebno imati u vidu u numeričkom modelu. Model predložen u ovom radu uzima u obzir sledeće nelinearne uticaje: nelinearno ponašanje betona i čelika primenom odgovarajućih konstitutivnih relacija, efekat utezanja betona i geometrijske nelinearnosti. Analizirani su uzorci izloženi delovanju statičkog opterećenja koji imaju različitu vitkost, odnos D/t (odnos ukupne dimenzije čeličnog profila [D] i debljine čeličnog profila [t]), kao i uzorci izloženi različitim tipovima naprezanja. Na osnovu parametarske analize, određeni su modeli materijala za čelik i beton, kao i njihovi parametri koji najbolje aproksimiraju ponašanje CFT stubova. Tačnost modela proverena je zatim i upoređivanjem sa eksperimentalnim podacima dostupnim u literaturi.

AB  - The state-of-the-art Bridge Management Systems (BMSs) feature tightly coupled deterioration and preservation optimization model that enable determining the most cost-effective maintenance strategies at both the project and network levels. In other to improve deterioration model, many authors suggest the application of Weibull distribution for the sojourn time in condition states. Consequently, one has to solve semi-Markov decision process to determine the optimum preservation policy. It can be shown that the long-run optimal policies obtained using semi-Markov model doesn't differ from those of time homogenous Markov chains for average cost criteria if the expected sojourn times in each condition state are same for both model. However, financial needs differ between the models depending on distribution parameters of sojourn time in each condition state. It is therefore that the estimation of these parameters is crucial for the realistic estimation of the financial needs. In this paper, the semi-Markov decision process is briefly presented and recommendations regarding its practical applications in bridge management are given.

AB  - In the paper, a simplified method for design of circular composite CFT columns according to the European standard for deisgn of composite steel and concrete structures – Eurocode 4 is presented. Veri¬fication of the column section capacity under axial compression and bending is based on the concept of limit states and determination of the N-M interaction curve. For eight the most common in practice CFT columns, continuous N-M interaction curves are constructed. In addition, for these selected sections, the influence of the variation of the concrete and steel classes on the column cross-section capacity is analyzed. Given interaction curves simplify the design of composite columns and the choice of dimensions of CFT column and its steel and concrete classes.

AB  - Despite the extensive analytical and numerical research carried out in the last two decades on the long-term behaviour of continuous concrete beams composed of precast units, only limited number of experimental data is currently available in the literature. This paper presents an experimental study of the time-dependent behaviour of continuous concrete beams that has been carried out at the University of Belgrade. Two beams were made of precast reinforced elements with cast in situ upper part and continuity joint at middle support. Two cast in place continuous beams of same span and load were also tested. All beams were subjected to equal sustained load for a period over 4 years and deflections, strains and reactions were measured. Experimental program is described and the results are presented. The experiment was also analytically simulated. Analysis of this type of structure should incorporate effects of creep, shrinkage and cracking of concrete. Simplified procedure that involves the AAEM method and the bilinear approach is proposed for calculation of the restraint moment. Calculated values obtained using measured concrete properties are close to the experimental values. Experimental results presented in the paper offer data for calibration of more complex theoretical procedures.

AB  - This paper presents a simplified method for calculation of bearing capacity of composite columns according to the European standard for the calculation of composite steel and concrete structures - Eurocode 4. Resistance analysis, and also the stability analysis of the isolated column under axial compression is based on the application of the European buckling curves. Verification of the column capacity subjected to axial compression and bending is based on the N-M interaction curve. For the presented numerical example, construction of the interaction curve is explained for the composite column with the circular concrete filled steel tube cross section. The influence of the concrete core confinement on the increase of concrete strength and the column bearing capacity of a CFT column is discussed. The [N, M] coordinates of the continuous interaction curve are calculated from the derived expressions for determination of the area and the static moment of the cut-off portion of the circular CFT section. For the presented example, the effects of the strength of concrete, strength of steel and the diameter and wall thickness of the steel tube on the composite CFT cross section capacity is discussed.
AB  - U radu je prikazana uprošćena metoda proračuna nosivosti spregnutih stubova prema važećem evropskom standardu za proračun spregnutih konstrukcija od čelika i betona - Evrokodu 4. Analiza nosivosti, a time i stabilnosti pri aksijalnom pritisku izolovanog stuba bazira se na primeni evropskih krivih izvijanja. Provera nosivosti pri kombinaciji aksijalnog pritiska i momenta savijanja zasniva se na N-M interakcionoj krivoj. Na konkretnom brojnom primeru prikazano je konstruisanje krive interakcije za spregnuti stub poprečnog preseka u obliku kružnog šupljeg profila ispunjenog betonom. Razmatran je uticaj utezanja betona na povećanje čvrstoće betona i nosivosti preseka CFT stuba. Izvođenjem izraza za određivanje odsečenih površina i statičkih momenata odsečenih površina kod kružnog CFT stuba, a zatim i određivanjem koordinata tačaka koje pripadaju krivoj interakcije, konstruisana je kontinualana kriva interakcije. Za navedeni poprečni presek kod proračuna nosivosti pri kombinaciji aksijalnog pritiska i savijanja, analizirani su sledeći uticaji na graničnu nosivost spregnutog preseka: uticaj promene marke betona, uticaj promene klase čelika i uticaj promene odnosa prečnika i debljine čeličnog profila.

AB  - The displacement method of frame analysis involves determination of the
element stiffness matrix. In the paper, the stiffness matrix of the fixed-end composite frame
element (type “k”) is derived. In general, the composite section consists of concrete part,
steel section, reinforcing and prestressing steel. Concrete is considered as an aging, linear
viscoelastic material. The relaxation of the prestressing steel is taken into account. The
derived expressions can be used with any creep function and, also, for elements with
variable cross-sections. The derivation of the element stiffness matrix follows two different
approaches. The first approach is based on the integral stress-strain relation for concrete.
The linear integral operators are used. In the second approach, the element flexibility matrix
and the resisting force vector are determined through the numerical integration of the cross-
section deformations. The class of cross-sections which accounts for viscous effects of a
composite section is developed. The results of the two approaches are compared in the
numerical example.

AB  - Design of the composite steel-concrete columns subjected to compression and bending, according to Eurocode
4, is shown in the paper. The effects of imperfections in the axial compression are taken into account
indirectly by using the relevant European buckling curves. When a composite column is subjected to
combined axial compression and bending, the analysis includes an increase in bending moment due to second
order effects. The verification of the column resistance to compression and bending is based on the use of
interaction curve. For the cross sections of fully encased columns with the I steel sections, very practical sets of
continuous interaction curves are given. The curves are constructed for different composite column dimensions,
steel sections and concrete classes.

order effects. The verification of the column resistance to compression and bending is based on the use of
interaction curve. For the cross sections of fully encased columns with the I steel sections, very practical sets of
continuous interaction curves are given. The curves are constructed for different composite column dimensions,
steel sections and concrete classes.",

AB  - Creep and shrinkage of concrete affect the behavior of steel-concrete composite

composite structures. Eurocode 4, the contemporary European code for design of steel-

AB  - Research on the long-term behavior of composite concrete girders made continuous is presented in the paper. Concrete precast element is cracked under construction load. Creep and differential shrinkage of precast and in-situ cast part of the girder also induce stresses in a structure. The subject of this investigation is redistribution of section forces in course of time for concrete girders subjected to change of the structural system. The aim of investigation is to verify design models and analytical procedures by experimental research.
AB  - U radu je prikazano istraživanje ponašanja naknadno kontinuiranih betonskih konstrukcija, sa naglaskom na deformacije betona zavisne od vremena. Promena statičkog sistema tokom izvođenja, dovodi i do preraspodele statičkih uticaja u sistemu, tako da konačno stanje nije prost zbir faza kroz koje konstrukcija prolazi. Pored skupljanja i tečenja betona pod stalnim opterećenjem, pojava prslina utiče na razvoj napona i deformacija kroz vreme. Osim eksperimentalnog istraživanja, u radu je prikazana i numerička analiza primenom programskog paketa DIANA za nelinearnu analizu konstrukcija. Cilj prikazanog istraživanja je identifikacija najznačajnijih parametara za ponašanje konstrukcije tokom vremena i verifikacija proračunskih modela.

AB  - Time-dependent effects are significant for the design of range of concrete structures. Reliable data for creep and shrinkage properties of concrete and analytical procedures are needed to account for these effects. A number of software applications have been developed to deal with time-dependent
properties of concrete. In this paper numerical simulation of experimental long-term behavior of composite concrete beams made continuous is presented. DIANA software nonlinear FEM analysis
and a simplified method for prediction of the continuity restraint moment are compared with the experimental results. ACI 209, MC 90, LRFD and EC2 material models have been applied. Material models were also compared with respect to compliance of calculated and measured moments.

AB  - There are many benefits when precast bridge girders are made continuous for live load, such as: lower costs, improved durability, improved structural integrity, improved ride quality, etc. Material nonlinearity of concrete structures, creep, shrinkage and cracking, play an important role in structural behaviour. Special attention should be paid to concrete structures built in phases involving successive changes of a structural system. Developments in computational techniques make it possible to use any type of nonlinear material model. In order to predict time-dependant effects in concrete structures, engineers need reliable data for creep and shrinkage properties of concrete. This study was undertaken as an attempt to evaluate the influence of various creep and shrinkage model recommendations on the continuity behaviour of composite concrete girders made continuous, after an extended period of time. Numerical simulation is obtained using nonlinear FEM model of DIANA application.

Contribution to analysis of composite steel and concrete columns

AB  - In the paper, design of composite steel-concrete column according to Eurocode 4 is illustrated on detailed numerical example. The theoretical foundations of the Eurocode 4 design procedure is explained before, in the paper of the same group of authors. The resistance of a composite column subjected to axial compression and biaxial bending is determined. Capacity and stability analysis of the individual composite column under axial compression is based on the use of European buckling curves. The verification of column bearing capacity is based on use of interaction diagram determined from capacity analysis of composite cross-section. Second order effects and effects of creep and shrinkage of concrete are taken into account. For the cross section of fully encased column with I steel section, the dependency of concrete class and reinforcement ratio on ultimate cross section capacity is studied. For this type of composite cross section and 6 different steel sections, the continuous interaction curves are constructed, for common concrete classes. These curves are very practical since simplify the design of composite columns and choice of dimensions of concrete section, steel section and concrete class.
AB  - U radu se, na detaljnom brojnom primeru spregnutog stuba kod koga je čelični I profil potpuno obložen betonom, ilustruje proračun nosivosti spregnutih stubova prema važećem evropskom standardu za proračun spregnutih konstrukcija od čelika i betona - Evrokodu 4 koji je detaljno objašnjen u prethodnom radu iste grupe autora. Određena je nosivost spregnutog stuba izloženog samo aksijalnom pritisku i izloženog istovremenom uticaju aksijalnog pritiska i savijanja momentima. Analiza nosivosti, a time i stabilnosti pri aksijalnom pritisku izolovanog stuba bazira se na primeni Evropskih krivih izvijanja. Provera nosivosti pri kombinaciji aksijalnog pritiska i savijanja momentima zasniva se na interakcionoj krivoj koja se određuje pri analizi nosivosti poprečnog preseka posmatranog stuba. Uzeti su u obzir uticaji drugog reda kao i uticaji skupljanja i tečenja betona. Za poprečni presek spregnutog stuba kod koga je čelični I profil potpuno obložen betonom, prikazan je uticaj marke betona i procenta armiranja na graničnu nosivost poprečnog preseka. Za dati tip spregnutog poprečnog preseka i nekoliko valjanih čeličnih profila, konstruisane su kontinualne krive interakcije za uobičajene klase betona. Ove krive su vrlo pogodne za praktičnu primenu i olakšavaju dimenzionisanje spregnutih stubova, budući da pojednostavljuju izbor dimenzija betonskog dela preseka, čeličnog profila i klase betona.
