Analytic and experimental determination impulse response of single degree of freedom system

AB  - The paper presents an experimental and analytical way of determining the impulse response of
a linear time-invariant damped system with one degree of freedom.
An experiment was conducted where the mass was excited by an impact load. Both the mass
acceleration and impact force values were recorded. The magnitude of the system's frequency
response was determined based on the recorded values, ensuring the relatively simple
identification of the system's basic parameters. Those parameters were used to define a suitable
mathematical model of the system, transfer function, and frequency response function in an
analytical form.
The impulse response of the system based on the recorded values of mass acceleration and impact
load is expressed as a discrete function. This function is determined by applying the inverse
discrete Fourier transform of the corresponding frequency response function.
The impulse response of the system, based on the mathematical model, is expressed as a
continuous function. This function is determined by applying the inverse Fourier transform of
the corresponding frequency response.
Finally, it was shown that the response of a system to arbitrary load could be determined by
convolving the impulse response of the system with the load function. Convolution of continuous
functions is difficult to perform, and it can be used only for the simplest problem and for
understanding the physical phenomenon. Discrete convolution has a practical utility because it
is easy to perform in some program languages like Matlab. However, discrete impulse response
has limitations depending on the test conditions.

Direct laser dynamic displacement measurement of structural response during testing

AB  - The paper presents part of the conducted research on laser-displacement sensors for the
measurement of structural response in civil engineering applications. Usually, the level of
displacement in laboratory or on-site testing is in small to mid-range levels of 1.00 to 25.00 mm
and in the frequency range of up to 100 Hz. Appropriate sensors were selected and used
according to performance in the sense of resolution/accuracy.
Experiments are conducted on steel model beam in the laboratory and on-site real bridge
structure. In both analysed cases, data analysis was carried out in the sense of modal frequencies
and damping estimation with comparison with numerically computed values.
Presented are the results of two experiments, a laboratory-tested model of steel beam and an onsite
tested real bridge structure. In both cases have achieved good argument of test results,
estimated modal frequencies and damping of tested model/structure.
Data analyses conducted used a developed MATLAB script, while the numerical computation
conducted used SAP2000_v14 FEM package for structural analysis.
Excellent agreement of extracted results was achieved in the case of the laboratory-tested
structural model, as well as of extracted results of on-site tested real-world structure in the sense
of extracted modal frequencies and modal damping.
Finally, the conclusion is that laser-displacement sensors are quite appropriate for small to midrange
of expected displacement and are quite appropriate for such applications according to the
possibility of installation so that such sensors could be applied for structural testing, particularly
for dynamic testing of such structures because of their possibility of high sampling frequency
and high resolution/accuracy.

AB  - Cross-laminated timber (CLT) floors have gained in popularity due to their outstanding strength,
aesthetic appeal, good fire resistance, and high level of prefabrication. However, due to their
high stiffness-to-weight ratio, CLT floors are highly susceptible to pedestrian-induced
vibrations. In design practice, vibration serviceability is usually assessed by assuming a floor as
a set of CLT panels with no inter-panel connections, which leads to overestimation of the
vibration response. In this paper, an experimental dynamic testing was carried out to identify
modal properties and pedestrian-induced response of two CLT floors with different number of
panels in a floor assembly. Influence of the inter-panel connections on the floor modal properties
and pedestrian-induced vibration response is particularly studied and discussed.

AB  - When evaluating modal properties of lively structures as footbridges, numerical modelling
should be used with caution. This is due to model uncertainties mostly related to material
parameters, boundary conditions, the effects of the non-structural elements, and also other
inevitable differences between as-built and designed structures. Differences between the
dynamic behaviour of the as-built structure and the numerical finite element model are best
visible after performing vibration testing and modal properties identification based on
experimentally obtained results. Conclusions regarding reasons for these differences can be
useful for further understanding of vibrational behaviour of footbridge structures and can help
designers in better predicting dynamic properties of such structures in the design stage.
This paper describes a lively full-scale footbridge over the Vrbas river in Banja Luka, Prijecani
sub-area, Serbian Republic, Bosnia and Herzegovina, its modal properties estimation based on
ambient vibration measurements and numerical modelling.
Identification of modal properties was performed using Ambient Modal Testing applying
Multiple Test Setup Measurement Procedure and Frequency Domain Decomposition method.
The ambient vibration measurement technique for the subject footbridge, which gave a good
quality of the results obtained, is presented.
Analysis of the obtained experimental results is given, as well as their comparison with
numerically estimated values in the finite element model. Despite some irregular features of the
subject footbridge, correlation is obtained, and conclusions are made regarding the effects of
numerical model parameters on structural dynamic properties.

AB  - У раду је приказано испитивање статичким пробним оптерећењем пешачко-бициклистичког моста код ADA-MALL-а у Београду, на месту укрштаја две саобраћајнице са фреквентним друмским саобраћајем у зони највећег спортско-рекреативног и културно забавног центара у Београду - Аде Циганлије и новоизграђеног тржног центра ADA-MALL. Сходно неопходности изналажења оптималног решења, више од деценије су улагани напори за изналажење најадекватнијег решења. У финансирање изградње овако значајног објекта, укључила се компанија власник оближњег тржног центра водећи се интересима и потребама као главни донатор-инвеститор. Објекат је изведен 2021. год., а како би се остварили услови за безбедну употребу исте године је извршено испитивање пробним оптерећењем конструкција у оквиру објекта. Испитивање је извршила Лабораторија за конструкције Грађевинског факултета Универзитета у Београду, а на основу спроведеног испитивања потврђена је адекватност регистрованог конструкцијског одговора и функционалност изведеног објекта.

AB  - The paper presents study of modal parameters identification of two turbine supporting structures of unit-A1 and unit-A2 in Power Plant Nikola Tesla – A in Obrenovac – Republic of Serbia, based on ambient vibration measurements. Vibration response measurements of structures were carried out in two measurement campaigns under ambient excitation, each time on unit which was out of operation. Modal frequencies and mode shapes were extracted using Frequency Domain Decomposition (FDD) technique according to recorded acceleration data. The performed numerical analysis established the dynamic characteristics of the analysed table-top foundation structure adequate to the experimentally determined ones.

Vibration response measurements of structures were carried out in two measurement campaigns under ambient excitation, each time on unit which was out of operation. Modal frequencies and mode shapes were extracted using Frequency Domain Decomposition (FDD) technique according to recorded acceleration data. The performed numerical analysis established the dynamic characteristics of the analysed table-top foundation structure adequate to the experimentally determined ones.",

AB  - The paper presents study of dynamic properties estimation based on ambient vibration measurements of the old suspension footbridge over the river Vrbas in Banja Luka (in Šeher sub-area), Serbian Republic in Bosnia. Prone to uncomfortable vibrations under pedestrian excitation, so-called lively footbridge, was tested and few first modes of vibrations were identified by Frequency Domain Decomposition method. AB  - Cilj ovog istraživanja je prikupljanje, obrada i statistička analiza rezultata ispitivanja uzoraka betonskih kocki koji su ispitani u Laboratoriji za materijale Građevinskog fakulteta u Beogradu prema standardu SRPS ISO 4012:2000 u periodu od 2012. do 2017. godine. Za potrebe analize, preuzeti su podaci iz Izveštaja o ispitivanju kontrolnih betonskih kocki, prepoznate su i klasifikovane osnovne karakteristike očvrslog betona. Izvršena je statistička analiza datuma betoniranja, starosti uzoraka, sastava betona, zapreminske mase, čvrstoće pri pritisku, zahtevane marke betona itd. Statistika je pokazala da su najčešće upotrebljavani cementi sledećih oznaka: CEM II A-M (V-L), CEM II A-M (S-L), CEM II A-S, a da najveće učešće imaju marke betona MB 30 sa 66,8% i MB 40 sa 14,3% udela.

Vehicle speed influence on the dynamic amplification factor of bridges

AB  - The paper presents an analysis of the influence of vehicle speed movement
along bridge on dynamic amplification factor for the case of simply supported, continuous
and clamped beam structural system. The analysis was conducted analytically and
numerically. Theoretical expressions was developed for the case of movement a
concentrated force over the bridge over simply supported beam structural system, while
other cases were analyzed numerically. Two cases, movement of concentrated force and
system of concentrated forces were considered. The comparative results for the most
unfavorable case, with the valid domestic and foreign regulations, compared and
presented. The results showed that it is a more unfavorable case when vehicles are moving
at higher speeds on short-span bridges, as well as that one concentrated force produces
greater dynamic effects than a system of concentrated forces, as well as the simply
supported beam system is the most sensitive on dynamic loads respect to other structural
systems.
