AB - Fly ash (FА) is a by-product of solid fuels burning. In the introductory part of the paper, an overview of the origin, chemical composition and classification of fly ash is given. FА is a powdery, solid substance whose chemical composition consists of unburnt carbon, metal oxides (Si, Fe, Ca and Al) and other inorganic substances. Structural analysis of the raw and modified FА sample provides guidance towards potential FА change. In the second part of the paper, the areas of FА application are listed and described. The application of fly ash finds its place: in the synthesis of zeolites, in the ceramics industry, in the purification of wastewater and in sorption materials. Fly ash has potential applications for improving degraded soils. Fly ash is used as a substitute for raw material in the construction industry or as an additive in the cement industry. Due to favourable geomechanical and geotechnical characteristics, FA has also found application in the construction
of embankments. Fly ash is also used for Roller Compacted Concrete Dams. In Serbia, FA is used for containment embankments at ash impoundments of Thermal Power Plants.

AB - The paper presents schematic and fragmentary approach to rain water in urban conditions, according to the basic stages od design project procedure that is based on more than 40 years of experience of members of the Institute of Hydraulic and Water Ecological Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Belgrade, including research, laboratory and field works, preliminary and main designs and execution works experience.

As first and important step is analysis of short duration high intensity rainfall usually based on near by gauge data through required analysis of background information for modelling of rainfall runoff, together with measurements in drainage systems, based on Terms of references, that includes concept and protection level from rain water – acceptable risk of flood, and finaly development of technical solution. The solution also needs to ensure safe pedestrian and motor traffic on streets, at crossings and on pavements. Before the 70-ies the effects of collecting and discharge of rainfall runoff was considered not poluted on the environment, primarily on the recipients – watercourses, what was found being wrong. Yet, during last two decades after treatment rainfall runoff being used as water sources.

AB - Climate change projections of precipitation and temperature suggest that Serbia could be one of the most affected regions in Southeast Europe. To prepare adaptation measures, the climate changes impact on water resources needs to be assessed. Pilot research is carried out for the Lim River basin to predict monthly flows under different climate scenarios. For estimation of future water availability, an alternative approach of developing a deterministic-stochastic time series model is chosen. The proposed two-stage time series model consists of several components: trend, long-term periodicity, seasonality and the stochastic component. The last one is based on a transfer function model with two input variables, precipitation and temperature, as climatic drivers. The Nash-Sutcliffe model efficiency for the observed period 1950-2012 is 0.829. The model is applied for the long-term hydrological prediction under the RCP emissions scenarios for the future time frame 2013-2070.

AB - The International Postgraduate Course on Flood Management in the Dan-
ube River Basin is aimed at harmonizing the necessary levels of education, information and preparedness prior to declaring a food on the Danube as a widest-scale phenomenon under the EU Strategy for the Danube Region. A further intention is a timely exchange of experience and knowledge and a better coordination of competent institutions immediately before a food occurrence and for the duration of high waters and foods on the Danube and its tributaries as a basis of an integrated system of harmonized cross-border management. The goal is adequate preparation and higher mutual harmonization during
foods as well as cross-border assistance in order to establish a sustainable system for protecting human life and property in the entire Danube River Basin. Based on the analysis of historical data on the Danube foods, hydrological and hydraulic considerations and risk models, including the aspects of food ccurrences and food forecasting, food-related legislation and regulations are presented. Finally, an overview of possible models, measures of food protection and impacts on the infrastructure of river and urban systems is provided for the purpose of impact assessment on the environment as well as climate change impact on foods in the Danube river basin.

AB - Depending on the usage of fly ash, it is necessary to determine its environmental parameters, such as the potential for pollutant transport/leaching after its built-in. This study presents a methodology for determination of transport parameters (filtration coefficient, effective porosity, longitudinal dispersivity, and the mean residence time) from experimental data collected from column experiments with a conservative tracer on different mixtures of fly ash with stabilizers (4.8% lime and 5% cement). The transport parameters are determined using (1) numerical model results and (2) an adapted analytical solution results against measured outflow tracer concentrations. The study shows that the addition of stabilizers decreases the filtration coefficient by an order of magnitude and the effective porosity by half. The longitudinal dispersivity is not influenced by the addition of lime to the mixture, and is increased by 40% by the addition of cement. The pollutant contact time with fly ash increases by six or nine times with the addition of lime and cement, respectively. The adaptation of the analytical solution agrees well with both the numerical solution and the experimental results, and it is anticipated to be of high value for determination of transport parameters for practitioners not familiar with numerical methods.

AB - Hydraulic structures are designed according to flows of a given return period. The design flows, estimated by means of statistical analysis, depend on the observations, while climate change impact is not explicitlytaken into account. As operating life of most hydraulic structures spreads over several decades, climate change impact should not be neglected. In this paper an analysis of climate change impact on flood flows is conducted for the Kolubara River at Slovac and for the Toplica River at Doljevac. The analysis is performed on the outputs of hydrologic modelling with the precipitation and temperature projections as the input. The Peaks over Threshold (POT) method is applied for frequency analysis of floods extracted from the flow projections. Characteristic quantiles are calculated for two future periods and compared to those estimated over the baseline period. The results suggest an increase in flood flows, particularly in the mid-21stcentury. Regardless of considerable uncertainty, these results can be used as indication of increase in design flows, and should be therefore taken into consideration within the hydraulic structure design.

AB - Various particles and materials, including pollutants, deposited on urban surfaces are washed off by stormwater runoff during rain events. The interactions between the solid and dissolved compounds in stormwater runoff are phenomena of importance for the selection and improvement of optimal stormwater management practices aimed at minimizing pollutant input to receiving waters. The objective of this research was to further investigate the mechanisms responsible for the partitioning of heavy metals (HM) between the solid and liquid phases in urban stormwater runoff. The research involved the collection of samples from urban asphalt surfaces, chemical characterization of the bulk liquid samples, solids separation, particle size distribution fractionation and chemical and physicochemical characterization of the solid phase particles. The results revealed that a negligible fraction of HM was present in the liquid phase (less than 3% by weight), while there was a strong correlation between the total content of heavy metals and total suspended solids. Examinations of surface morphology and mineralogy revealed that the solid phase particles consist predominantly of natural macroporous materials: alpha quartz (80%), magnetite (11.4%) and silicon diphosphate (8.9%). These materials have a low surface area and do not have significant adsorptive capacity. These materials have a low surface area and do not have significant adsorptive capacity. The presence of HM on the surface of solid particles was not confirmed by scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray microanalyses. These findings, along with the results of the liquid phase sample characterization, indicate that the partitioning of HM between the liquid and solid phases in the analyzed samples may be attributed to precipitation processes.

abstract = "Various particles and materials, including pollutants, deposited on urban surfaces are washed off by stormwater runoff during rain events. AB - The paper presents main design project of the bridge Ostruznica deck drainage and runoff treatment. An integral solution of drainage and irrigation and/or discharge water into the Sava river of pre - treated runoff from the portion of highway Dobanovci – Bubanj Potok and the bridge The treated water is taken for irrigation into the groundwater as a recharge, along the series of wells for potable water within sanitary protection zone of the Belgrade Water supply system. The first flush of the criteria rainfall runoff volume is to be pre - treated using a StormwaterR barrels. Such a solution is considered as an additional water source at the aquifer by the rivers’ banks. Also, it is a measure of water cycle improvement. The project is completed by a SwermR preventing system for accidental situation, such as leakage or accidents of vehicles and potential pollution and risks of vulnerability for the potablewater wells.

AB - Climate change impact on water resources is generally quantified in terms of relative changes in characteristicflows (e.g. annual runoff, median annual flows, etc.) over a future period compared to the baseline one. Thesechanges are estimated under the assumed emission scenarios and with one or more modelling chains (combinationsof the Global and Regional Climate Models, and a hydrological model). Since different modelling chains yielddifferent projections, estimates of these relative changes are uncertain. High prediction uncertainty is reflected in awide 90 per cent prediction uncertainty band (90PPU) or in a distribution that resembles the uniform distribution. Therefore, research in robustness of the modelling chains has been conducted. The goal of the research is toappoint higher probabilities to the projections obtained by the more robust chains, and in that way reduce theuncertainty in flow projections under climate change. In this research, the hydrologic projections are conditioned on the hydrologic signatures within the GLUEframework. Namely, a relative change obtained with a modelling chain is assigned a likelihood depending on theperformance of the chain in terms of the hydrologic signatures over the baseline period. High flow projections (2ndpercentile of the daily flows) are conditioned on the high-segment of the flow duration curve (FDC), projectionsof the median flows are conditioned on the FDC mid-segment slope, and the projections of the low flows areconditioned on the FDC low-segment. The projections of total annual runoff are conditioned on the entire FDC.The likelihoods are quantified in terms of Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency coefficient (NSE) evaluated from the FDCs ofthe flows simulated by the modelling chains and the observed FDC.The methodology presented is applied to develop flow projections in the Kolubara River catchment in Ser-bia over the mid 21st century (2041-2070). Hydrologic projections are obtained by the HBV-light hydrologicmodel with input from five climate models (combinations of the Global and Regional Climate Models), all rununder A1B emission scenario. The outputs of the climate models are bias-corrected to reproduce distributions ofthe precipitation depths and temperatures observed in the baseline period (1961-1990). The best twenty parametersets out 25,000 sampled ones are kept in the analysis, resulting in 100 modelling chains. The GLUE conditioning did not significantly affect the median values of the projections, but only thewidth of the prediction bands. All modelling chains perform equally well in terms of the entire FDC and itsmid-segment. Therefore, the GLUE-conditioned projections of annual runoff volume and median flows are similarto the unconditioned ones (i.e. GLUE conditioning yields slightly narrower 90PPUs). Model efficiency in the highflow domain differs between the modelling chains: however, the GLUE conditioning leads to somewhat narrower90PPU. Only few modelling chains performed well in the low flow domain, therefore the width of the 90PPU wasconsiderably reduced by conditioning (from 61.5% to 36.8%)

AB  - Approximately 7 million tons of fly ash and slag are produced in thermal power plants in Serbia every year, only 3% of which is used in the cement industry. About 300 million tons of the ash-slag mixture are disposed in land-fills, occupying an area of approximately 1600 hectares and generating environmental issues. Fly ash from Serbian power plants has pozzolanic properties and due to low concentration of calcium compounds (less than 10% CaO), they do not have self-cementing properties. According to the ASTM C618-15, this ash is from class F. According to the European Standard EN 197-1:2011, this ash is siliceous (type V) ash. From April 2014 to May 2015, an investigation of engineering properties of fly ash and mixtures of fly ash and slag from landfill (without or with binders of cement/lime) was conducted at the Laboratory of Soil Mechanics at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the University of Belgrade (Serbia) and at the Institute for Testing of Materials - IMS Institute in Belgrade. The laboratory test results were showed in the study 'Utilization of fly ash and slag produced in the TPP JP EPS thermal power plants for construction of railways'. Four kinds of waste materials from Serbian power plants were laboratory tested: (a) an ash-slag mixture from landfills at the 'Nikola Tesla A' thermal power plant; (b) fly ash from silos in the 'Nikola Tesla B' thermal power plant;

AB - Design storms are the basic input for hydrologic assessment and design of the flood control structures. Small and medium sized catchments with shorter concentration times require design storms of shorter, sub-daily, duration, that are defined from the rainfall depth - duration - frequency (DDF) relationships. The DDF relationships are developed by statistical analysis of rainfall depths in intervals of various durations. The development of DDF curves is usually accompanied by many problems that can result in significant uncertainty in the resulting design rainfall depths and intensities. Most problems are related to the measurement errors and data processing; however, due to the customary shortage of this kind of data in Serbia, practicing engineers are forced to develop the DDF curves from a modest amount of the available data, without an insight in the uncertainties inherent in the process. This paper discusses these problems and proposes to Serbian practitioners to apply a robust method described in earlier work of Koutsoyanniset al. (1998) for consistent development of the DDF relationships. The method is illustrated using the short-duration rainfall data from Banja Luka.

AB - Three statistical tests are applied to the precipitation indices time series, derived from daily precipitation observed at the “Vračar” raingauge in Belgrade from 1923 to 2012. Precipitation indices include total annual and monthly precipitation, yearly and monthly number of rainy days, precipitation concentration index, 1-day and multi-day annual maximum daily precipitation, various percentiles of daily precipitation and annual number of rainy days, annual maximum number of consecutive dry days, etc. The tests include the linear regression slope test, the Mann-Kendall test, and the Cox-Stuart test. All tests have an absence of a statistically significant trend as a null hypothesis. Detrended time series were subject to the parametric Fisher’s test for trend in variance. The results obtained are presented along with the conclusions about the change in the precipitation regime in Belgrade.

AB - Peaks-over-threshold method (POT) is the way for analysis of the stochastic structure of extreme hydrological events. For a chosen base flow and for characteristic value obtained form partial hydrographs, the POT method encompasses detection of discrete probability distribution of number of events in chosen time interval and continuous distribution of the exceedance values (peaks). This article presents a stochastic model for the analysis of the base flow exceedance volumes and accompanied cycle times between the ends of the successive exceedaence events. The model is based on the Markov's discreteds model principles and the assumptions about the form of the process intensity functions. The number of occurrence discrete distributions are discussed according to chosen forms of the time and volume intensity functions. The continuous distributions of the base flow exceedance characteristic values are modelled for the base series of values and their aggregation. The distribution of the maximum exceedance volume over the base flow in chosen time interval is formulated. The article presents an application of the suggested procedures on the mean daily flows hydrographs from the Bezdan gauging station on the Danube river.
