AB  - This paper deals primarily with research and testing of ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) made with or without the addition of steel fibers. Two stages of research are presented and discussed in detail: first - UHPC based mostly on local component materials and produced in the form of a premix with a commercial name ForteCrete150®, and second – modified UHPC, made with a partial cement substitution by limestone filler, as a more eco-friendly and sustainable solution. The obtained results indicate that there is a great potential for application of ultra-high performance concrete, especially in the form of premix that can be prepared on-site. The addition of limestone filler (and potentially other types of mineral additives) as SCM, could generally contribute to improvement of a negative agenda surrounding the cementitious composites.

AB  - Presented research was intentioned to clarify the effects of thermal treatment (ageing) of reinforcing steel products on their mechanical and deformation properties. In order to determine the effect of temperature, samples were exposed to room temperature (reference samples) and a temperature of 100 °C in duration of 30, 60 and 120 minutes, respectively. Tests were conducted on bars, coils and welded fabrics. After the thermal treatment, samples were exposed to tensile testing. The duration of the ageing treatment did not significantly affect measured properties of the tested products. Still, longer ageing process increased the yield stress of samples taken from coils by 7%, while the welded fabrics reached optimum values of yield stress and elongation after ageing of 60 minutes.

AB  - U radu je prikazana ocena stanja armiranobetonske (AB) konstrikcije primenom nedestruktivnih i destruktivnih in-situ metoda ispitivanja. Analziriana je zavisnost rezultata dobijenih primenom pomenutih metoda u skladu sa važećom tehničkom regulativom. Za AB grede i stubove kod kojih nije ostvarena projektovana marka betona dati su primeri sprovedenih sanacionih mera. U prikazanim primerima detaljno su opisani svi relevantni aspekti praktične pirmene sprovedenih sanacionih mera karbonskim trakama i betoniranjem.

AB  - Copper slag, produced as a by-product of the pyrometallurgical process of obtaining copper from copper ore in Bor, is disposed as waste in landfills. Despite the favorable physical and mechanical properties of concrete made with copper slag aggregate, such as higher compressive strength (40.8 MPa), higher tensile splitting strength (10.3 MPa), higher pull-off strength (3.1 MPa) and lower water permeability, its use in the construction industry has not been sufficiently investigated. The paper shows the possibility of using copper slag aggregate (CSA) in concrete as a potential replacement for natural river aggregate (RA). As part of the experimental tests, the environmental impact of using CSA as a substitute for RA in the production of mixed concrete was analyzed. The analysis included two concrete mixtures with partial replacement of coarse natural aggregate with copper slag aggregate in three different impact scenarios

AB  - This research was conducted in order to evaluate the influence of different curing conditions on rheological and mechanical properties of high volume fly ash concrete (HVFAC) in comparison with the ordinary Portland cement concrete (OPC). Four types of concrete were made: two HVFAC and two OPC designed to have the same consistency and 28-day compressive strength for samples cured in water. Also, three different curing regimes were chosen: standard water curing (W), standard laboratory air curing (L) and curing in standard laboratory conditions using curing compound based on the polyolefin emulsion (C). The main objectives were to evaluate the influence of these curing regimes on the compressive strength, flexural tensile strength, modulus of elasticity development over time, water permeability of concrete and concrete shrinkage. The use of curing compound improved previously mentioned properties in some extent compared with the samples cured in standard air conditions.

AB  - Cilj ovog istraživanja je prikupljanje, obrada i statistička analiza rezultata ispitivanja uzoraka betonskih kocki koji su ispitani u Laboratoriji za materijale Građevinskog fakulteta u Beogradu prema standardu SRPS ISO 4012:2000 u periodu od 2012. do 2017. godine. Za potrebe analize, preuzeti su podaci iz Izveštaja o ispitivanju kontrolnih betonskih kocki, prepoznate su i klasifikovane osnovne karakteristike očvrslog betona. Izvršena je statistička analiza datuma betoniranja, starosti uzoraka, sastava betona, zapreminske mase, čvrstoće pri pritisku, zahtevane marke betona itd. Statistika je pokazala da su najčešće upotrebljavani cementi sledećih oznaka: CEM II A-M (V-L), CEM II A-M (S-L), CEM II A-S, a da najveće učešće imaju marke betona MB 30 sa 66,8% i MB 40 sa 14,3% udela.

Influence of coarse recycled concrete aggregate on the durability of asphalt mixtures

AB  - Until recently, coarse recycled concrete aggregate (RCA) has been used for the production of new concrete and soil stabilization, as well as for materials applied in road pavement construction, primarily for unbound base and sub-base layers. This paper presents the results of a study which objective was to assess the possibility of using coarse RCA in asphalt mixtures. 
The experimental research, shown in this paper, included testing of four asphalt mixtures made with coarse RCA (4/22.4 mm) as a partial substitution of natural aggregate, in the amount of 0% (control mixture), 15%, 30% and 45%, by mass. All asphalt mixtures were designed for the base course. 
The optimum bitumen content increased from 3.4%, for control and mixture with 15% RCA, to 3.5% for the mixtures with 30% RCA and 45% RCA. The rutting and fatigue resistance of asphalt mixtures with RCA were higher compared with the control mixture. Proportional rutting depth ranged between 3.9% and 4.8% for mixtures with RCA, while 5% was measured for the referent mixture. Estimated strain values for a lifetime of 106 load cycles increased from 124 με, for control mixture, to 129 με, 145.8 με and 137.4 με measured for mixtures with 15, 30 and 45% of RCA, respectively. Two out of three RCA mixtures had higher indirect tensile strength ratios, varying from +3% and +13.7% relative to the referent mixture. The results obtained by water resistance testing of mixture with 30% RCA were 4.7% lower than for the control mixture.

AB  - Fibre reinforced cement composites are used in a longer period for production of various façade panels that are available on the market. These are mainly single-layer thin fiber-cement boards. The paper deals with façade panels composed of fibre reinforced cement composite substrate and a decorative face of stone. Specific for the cement composite in this case is that it contains light aggregate in the form of crushed brick particles. The physical-mechanical properties of the applied fibre reinforced cement composites and the particular properties of the aforementioned façade panel essential for its application are given. In accordance with the sustainable approach in the construction industry, the additional value of this research represents the application of local and recycled materials.

AB  - U radu su prikazani rezultati ispitivanja fizičko-mehaničkih svojstava krečnih maltera kod kojih je rečni agregat delimično zamenjen agregatom od reciklirane drobljene opeke sa 25, 50 i 75% (zapreminski), pri različitim zapreminskim odnosima kreča i agregata. Ispitivanja su vršena pri starostima od 7, 14, 28 i 56 dana. Čvrstoće pri pritisku pri starosti od 7 dana veće su za malterske mešavine sa dodatkom drobljene opeke u odnosu na referentne mešavine. Najveće vrednosti čvrstoće pri pritisku i adhezije za podlogu ostvarene su kod mešavine sa zapreminskim odnosima komponenata 1:3 i sa 75% učešća agregata od drobljene opeke i iznosile su redom 1,47 MPa i 0,21 MPa.

All asphalt mixtures were designed for the base course. The stiffness modulus of asphalt mixtures with RCA was lower compared with the control mixture. The use of fine RCA had no significant influence on the water sensitivity and ranged from -2.4% to +1.7% relative to the control mixture. Resistance to permanent deformation increases with the addition of up to 30% fine RCA.

Resistance of concrete to carbonation and chloride ingress: testing results and service life prediction

AB  - Reinforcement corrosion due to carbonation and chloride ingress is one of the main deterioration mechanisms of reinforced concrete structures.  There is a special concern about concrete structures with a very long demanded service life such as nuclear power plants. The focus of the paper is on the durability properties of concrete with intended use in containers for radioactive waste disposal. Processes of carbonation and chloride ingress are described together with their existing models. Experimental results of accelerated carbonation test and rapid chloride migration test are presented. Obtained results are used for calculation of service life according to the fib-Model Code provisions. Probabilistic approach with the FORM analysis performed over the results of accelerated carbonation depth give the relation between the depth of concrete cover and reliability index for the targeted service life of 300 years. Calculated chloride diffusion coefficient is used for qualitative comparison with the existing data from the literature. It is also used for estimation of concrete cover thickness in order to secure demanded service life. The conclusion of the conducted tests and analysis is that this type of concrete possesses very high durability performance and can be used for intended purpose.

AB  - Recycled concrete aggregate (RCA), obtained by crushing of original (old) concrete, consists of natural aggregate grains and a cement mortar matrix. The presence of old adhered cement mortar, which has higher porosity than natural aggregate, causes unfavourable properties of RCA. The research conducted in order to improve the quality of RCA and to enable its greater application in the construction industry is presented in this paper. Therefore, RCA was subjected to quality improvement treatments with hydrochloric acid and carbon dioxide (accelerated carbonation). The first procedure was aimed at partially removing the adhered cement mortar and the second at reinforcing the cement matrix. The physical, mechanical and chemical properties of all three types of RCA were tested. After the pre-soaking acid treatment (0.1 mol/dm(3) HCl), RCA showed reduced water absorption (up to 3%); the process of accelerated carbonation also led to reduced water absorption (13-20%) as well as to improved mechanical properties (similar to 10%). A scanning electron microscopy investigation revealed that the carbonation process, as expected, significantly reduces porosity of RCA. The overall results show that if RCA is obtained by crushing of compact, high-quality concrete, the procedures of aggregate quality improvement are not necessary.

AB  - Recycled concrete aggregate (RCA), obtained by crushing of original (old)
concrete, consists of natural aggregate grains and a cement mortar matrix. The
presence of old adhered cement mortar, which has higher porosity than natural
aggregate, causes unfavourable properties of RCA. The research conducted in
order to improve the quality of RCA and to enable its greater application in the
construction industry is presented in this paper. Therefore, RCA was subjected
to quality improvement treatments with hydrochloric acid and carbon dioxide
(accelerated carbonation). The first procedure was aimed at partially removing
the adhered cement mortar and the second at reinforcing the cement matrix. The
physical, mechanical and chemical properties of all three types of RCA were
tested. After the pre-soaking acid treatment (0.1 mol/dm3 HCl), RCA showed
reduced water absorption (up to 3%); the process of accelerated carbonation
also led to reduced water absorption (13–20%) as well as to improved mechanical
properties (∼10%). A scanning electron microscopy investigation revealed
that the carbonation process, as expected, significantly reduces porosity of RCA.
The overall results show that if RCA is obtained by crushing of compact, high-
-quality concrete, the procedures of aggregate quality improvement are not necessary

AB  - The paper is focused to the properties of cementitious composites such as: mortar, ordinary concrete and self-compacting concrete made by means of recycled rubber granulate as a partial replacement for commonly used aggregate. This paper, together with the results of authors' own experimental research on rubberized cementitious composites is presented in detail. The comprehensive conclusion suggests that this type of material can be successfully applied in many fields of engineering practice, thanks to its sustainability, elasticity and durability.

AB  - It is a known fact that fibers are usually added to cementitious composites (concrete and mortar) in order to improve some of their physical-mechanical properties, such as: tensile and flexural strength, impact resistance, shrinkage, freeze-thaw resistance, durability, etc. On the other hand, improvement of deformation properties (such as ductility or elasticity modulus) of such composites can be equally or even more important. Evaluation of ductility (or toughness) of fiber reinforced cementitious composites is usually related to the area under the σ-ε diagram obtained during different static or dynamic tests. This paper presents the experimental testing results of deformation properties of fiber reinforced composites made with different types and quantities of fibers – when subjected to compression.

AB  - This paper statistically investigates the testing results of compressive strength and density of control concrete specimens tested in the Laboratory for materials, Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Belgrade, during 2012. The total number of 4420 concrete specimens were tested, which were sampled on different locations - either on concrete production site (concrete plant), or concrete placement location (construction site). To be exact, these samples were made of concrete which was produced on 15 concrete plants, i.e. placed in at 50 different reinforced concrete structures, built during 2012 by 22 different contractors. It is a known fact that the achieved values of concrete compressive strength are very important, both for quality and durability assessment of concrete inside the structural elements, as well as for calculation of their load-bearing capacity limit. Together with the compressive strength testing results, the data concerning requested (designed) concrete class, matching between the designed and the achieved concrete quality, concrete density values and frequency of execution of concrete works during 2012 were analyzed.
AB  - U radu je prikazana statistička analiza rezultata ispitivanja čvrstoće pri pritisku i zapreminske mase kontrolnih betonskih uzoraka dobijenih u Laboratoriji za materijale Građevinskog fakulteta Univerziteta u Beogradu, u toku 2012. godine. Ispitivanja su obavljena na ukupno 4.420 betonskih uzoraka, uzorkovanih na više lokacija - na mestu proizvodnje (u fabrikama betona) i na mestu ugradnje (na različitim gradilištima). Naime, reč je o uzorcima proizvedenim na petnaest betonskih baza, odnosno o uzorcima betona ugrađenih u 50 armirano- betonskih konstrukcija različite namene, koje je tokom 2012. godine izvodilo dvadeset dva različita izvođača. Poznata je činjenica da su ostvarene vrednosti čvrstoće pri pritisku betona veoma važne, kako za procenu kvaliteta i trajnosti betona u konstruktivnim elementima, tako i za proračun njihove granične nosivosti. Osim rezultata ispitivanja čvrstoće pri pritisku, analizirani su i podaci o zahtevanim (projektovanim) markama betona, o tome koliko se ostvarene marke poklapaju s projektovanim markama betona, zatim o dobijenim vrednostima zapreminskih masa, kao i o učestalosti izvođenja betonskih radova u toku predmetne - 2012. godine. .

AB  - There is a number of advantages when using fly ash in cement composites. Fly ash is known for decades for its' pozzolanic properties, and thus it is mostly used as an mineral admixture in the process of production of cement. This way benefits like saving energy and reduction of CO2 emission are obtained. This paper presents the results of research conducted on cement composites made with fly ash from Serbia, added as a partial substitute for cement. The properties of fresh and hardened cement composites were studied with replacement of different mass quantites of cement. Studies have shown that with the moderate amount of fly ash (up to 30%) it is possible to obtain satisfactory physical and mechanical properties of cement composites, both in fresh and hardened state.
AB  - Postoji niz prednosti upotrebe elektrofilterskog pepela u cementnim kompozitima. Elektrofilterski pepeo je poznat decenijama po svojim pucolanskim svojstvima i iz tog razloga se u najvećoj meri upotrebljava kao mineralni dodatak u procesu proizvodnje cementa. Na taj način se ostvaruju prednosti u uštedi energije i u smanjenju emisije CO2. U radu su prikazani rezultati ispitivanja sprovedenih na cementnim kompozitima sa elektrofilterskim pepelom iz Srbije, u cilju delimične zamene standardnog cementa. Svojstva svežih i očvrslih cementnih kompozita proučavana su sa zamenom različitim količinama standardnog cementa. Istraživanja su pokazala da se uz umerenu zamenu količine cementa elektrofilterskim pepelom (do 30%) mogu postići zadovoljavajuća fizičko-mehanička svojstva cementnih maltera, kako u svežem tako i u očvrslom stanju.

AB  - Cement based composites (concrete and mortar) are widely used in building industry, owing their popularity to huge production rate of cement. Nevertheless, cement production was found to have several negative environmental impacts. This is the reason why more and more alternative binders, like amorphous kaolin, are investigated and whenever possible implemented, with respect to the rules of energy efficiency. Three series of mortars were made, with and without amorphous kaolin, and then investigated both in fresh and in hardened state, as well. Positive impact of substitution of cement with amorphous kaolin was detected, especially in fresh state (improvement of consistence).

AB  - U radu je prikazana mogućnost primene amorfnog kaolina, dobijenog mehanohemijskom aktivacijom, kao dela zamene cementa kod cementnih kompozita, kao i ekološki aspekti njegove primene. Projektovane su četiri malterske mešavine, etalon sa čistim cementom (sa oznakom "1"), mešavina oznake "2" sa 5% amorfnog kaolina, mešavina oznake "3" sa 10% amorfnog kaolina i mešavina "4" sa 20% amorfnog kaolina u odnosu na ukupnu masu cementa. Na malterima u svežem stanju ispitivana je zapreminska masa, a na očvrslim kompozitima ispitivana su mehanička svojstva (čvrstoća pri pritisku i čvrstoća pri savijanju) i skupljanje. Na osnovu rezultata dobijenih tokom eksperimentalnih ispitivanja može se izvesti opšti zaključak da se primenom amorfnog kaolina u svojstvu pucolana mogu dobiti novi kompoziti povoljnih fizičko-mehaničkih svojstava, koji su takođe u skladu sa principima održivog razvoja.

AB  - The application of recycled concrete aggregate in concrete structures is necessary for the achievement of sustainable construction and a reduction in the negative environmental impacts. This paper presents the most significant research into the phenomenon of shrinkage of recycled aggregate concretes. Since the amount of research is still relatively small, this paper presents an attempt to systematize them, present their results and analyze them. It is shown that the shrinkage of recycled aggregate concrete is mostly larger than the shrinkage of the reference natural aggregate concrete and that this difference increases as the percentage of recycled concrete aggregate increases. The effect of the water-to- cement ratio has also been analysed.
AB  - Primena recikliranog agregata u armirano-betonskim konstrukcijama je nužna ako se želi postići održiva gradnja i smanjenje negativnih uticaja eksploatacije prirodnih resursa na životnu okolinu. U ovom radu su predstavljena značajna istraživanja fenomena skupljanja betona na bazi recikliranog agregata. Istraživanja u ovoj oblasti su i dalje relativno malobrojna. U ovom radu je izvršeno njihovo grupisanje, prezentacija, kao i analiza rezultata. Pokazano je da su skupljanja betona na bazi recikliranog agregata po pravilu veća od uporednih betona na bazi prirodnog agregata i da rastu sa procentom zamene prirodnog agregata recikliranim. Analiziran je i uticaj vodocementnog faktora na skupljanje.
