AB - In this research, tests of mortar and porous concrete made with solidified waste water treatment sludge (SWWTS) used in two forms as a partial replacement of cement were carried out. SWWTS mainly consisted out of CaCO3 and Ca(OH)2, having no pozzolanic properties. For this reason, it was used both, as produced, and modified by adding Al2O3 and Mg3Si4O10(OH)2 in certain percentages. One mortar type and two types of porous concrete were tested. For each of the three products two mixtures were prepared: the reference mixture and the mixture made with 30% replacement of cement, while the other components remained the same. Based on the given comparative analysis, conclusions were drawn regarding the structure of porous concrete slabs, which refer to individual analyzed properties, but also to the possibility of applying energy-efficient materials. The obtained results point to the conclusion that the use of SWWTS reduces the values of almost all tested properties of porous concrete (flexural and compressive strength, pull-off strength, abrasion resistance), but also that the modification of SWWTS led to a smaller difference in the results of the samples made with 30% of cement replacement and the reference samples. Although, the use of SWWTS led to the reduction of mechancal properties of concretes, the most important benefit is development of possible way for reuse of this waste material and avoid its disposal in the landfills.

AB - The increased number of water treatment plants induces intensified production of water treatment sludge (WTS) that needs to be stabilized and reused. One of the possible stabilization processes is solidification, which involves the reaction of wastes with additives based on calcium-oxide and calcium-hydroxide. The final product of these reactions (solidified water treatment sludge - SWTS) is an inert material that can be used as a filler, but not as a supplementary cementitious mate-rial (SCM) - due to its insufficient pozzolanic activity. The paper presents the possibilities of application of modified SWTS (MSWTS) as a SCM when mixed with aluminium-oxide and magnesium-silicate. In order to achieve this, mortar mixtures were prepared with partial replacement of cement by using MSWTS in amounts of 10%, 20% and 30%. Flexural and compressive strength tests, togeth-er with ultrasonic pulse velocity, as well as with capillary water absorption and freeze-thaw resistance were performed. The obtained results point to the conclu-sion that the increase in the percentage content of MSWTS consequently led to a decrease in the mechanical properties of the tested samples, which limits the pos-sible cement percentage replacement in plasters. The decrease in flexural strength ranged between 3% and 8% and in compressive strength between 8% and 19%.

AB - Although, the salt crystallization is one of the most common causes of the deterioration of lime-based mortars, testing of their resistance to the soluble salt action has not yet been standardized. The problems following the development of the globally accepted testing method are, among others: defining the type of mortar samples, ways of samples’ contamination, the type and the concentration of the salt solutions used, environmental conditions during testing, determination of the damage development and the durability assessment. Another task of the testing method is to explain and connect the processes developing in the materials when they are applied in laboratory and real conditions. In this paper, soluble salt resistance testing of lime mortars on the composite samples is presented. The main focus of the paper is on the determination of the salt distribution in this type of samples after the five wetting and drying cycles. Samples consisted of two lime rendering layers (inner – 1/3 and outer -1/1), both prepared according to the experiences found in the literature for these types of lime mortars when applied on historical structures, placed on the natural stone bases. They were cured in laboratory conditions for 90 days, before drying and exposing to soluble salts action. Two types of 10% salt solutions were used for the test: sodium-chloride and sodium-sulfate. Salt contamination was performed by capillary action only in the first cycle, while in the other cycles samples were wetted by deionized water. After the finalization of the cycles, the detached pieces of mortar and efflorescence were removed from the samples. One of the samples from both groups were then cut in two halves, from which one was used for X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) and another for Scanning Electron Microscopy with Energy Dispersive X-Ray Analysis (SEM – EDX) characterization. For the XRF analysis samples were divided into four layers, and then crushed and sieved through 0.5 mm sieve before testing. For the SEM-EDX analysis the polished thick cross sections were prepared. The paper presents the results of these two analyses, and discusses the advantages and disadvantages of their application for this purpose. Mineralogical analysis of the samples was performed using XRD analysis. It was shown that XRF analysis provides more precise quantification of the elements within one sample, while SEM-EDX analysis gives possibilities for testing of layers with smaller depth within one cross – section.

AB - Presented research was intentioned to clarify the effects of thermal treatment (ageing) of reinforcing steel products on their mechanical and deformation properties. In order to determine the effect of temperature, samples were exposed to room temperature (reference samples) and a temperature of 100 °C in duration of 30, 60 and 120 minutes, respectively. Tests were conducted on bars, coils and welded fabrics. After the thermal treatment, samples were exposed to tensile testing. The duration of the ageing treatment did not significantly affect measured properties of the tested products. Still, longer ageing process increased the yield stress of samples taken from coils by 7%, while the welded fabrics reached optimum values of yield stress and elongation after ageing of 60 minutes.

AB - The subject of the experimental tests presented in the paper is the influence of the mixing method on the physical and mechanical properties of fine-grained concrete with the nominally largest aggregate grain of 8 mm. Concretes with three different aggregate compositions (river, crushed and mixture with coarse recycled aggregate) were mixed using the usual approach, and then two-stage mixing approach (TSMA). Slump and flow, density and temperature were tested on fresh concrete. The compressive strength, flexural, splitting tensile strength, density, ultrasonic pulse velocity, and water absorption was recorded on hardened concrete. Concretes prepared using recycled aggregate, according to all the mentioned tests, can be used as an adequate replacement for concretes prepared using river or crushed aggregate, while the two-phase approach had the greatest effect on the increase of the splitting tensile strength.

odgovarajućim orebravanjem šipki armature. Standard SRPS EN 10080 prepoznaje tri različita
tipa geometrije rebara, kod građevinskih proizvoda namenjenih za armiranje betona: šipki,
koturova, armaturnih mreža i reštekastih nosača. Kvalitet geometrije rebara se proverava putem
određivanja sledećih parametara: maksimalna visina poprečnih i podužnih rebara, rastojanje
između poprečnih rebara, nagibi urebrenja i boka poprečnog rebra i relativna površina rebra.
Metodologija njihovog ispitivanja definisana je u standardu SRPS EN ISO 15630-1, a
kriterijumi usaglašenosti su dati u standardu SRPS EN 10080. U radu su prikazani primeri
određivanja ovih parametara za različite tipove čelične armature, sa posebnim osvrtom na
utvrđivanje relativne površine rebara.

AB - The testing of physical and mechanical properties has always been the starting point for production of adequate cement composites, such as concrete and mortar. The need to preserve the environment by recycling materials, among other means, has found its recognition in production of mortars and concretes made with recycled aggregate. The paper deals with the specific aspects regarding the use of aggregate based on the recycled rubber, recycled brick and recycled concrete in mortar and concrete mixtures, with respect to the advantages and disadvantages of these aggregates. Properties such as density and consistency of fresh mixtures, as well as hardened state density, and hardened state compressive, flexural and bond strength will be used to quantify and assess the effect of the recycled materials on cement properties, in order to provide their practical use. The testing was conducted on the composites with local materials and in local laboratory conditions. A special part relates to the use of these materials in Self-Compacting Concrete mixtures, where the extreme attention to the component testing, mix proportioning, and production technology has to be paid.

AB - Waste and recycled materials have recently been used in the construction industry to comply with the principles of circular economy and sustainable development. The aim of this paper is to examine the potentials of solidified wastewater treatment sludge (SWWTS) as a supplementary cementitious material (SCM) in the production of lightweight pervious concrete pavers (LWPCP) suitable for pedestrian trails and rooftops (green) that comply with EU standards. Detailed characterization of SWWTS was performed, in order to understand its properties related to application as SCM, which led to the conclusion that it may be applied only as a filler, having 89.5% of Ca(OH)2. After thorough characterization, LWPCP samples were prepared and testing of physical and mechanical properties was conducted. The research showed that partial replacement of cement with SWWTS led to the decrease of all mechanical properties, ranging between 3.91 and 5.81 MPa for compressive strength and 0.97 to 1.23 MPa for flexural strength. However, all of the investigated mixtures showed a value higher than 3.5 MPa, which was defined as the lowest compressive strength in the range of pervious concrete properties. The addition of SWWTS led to a slight decrease in bulk density of the mixtures and an increase in water absorption. This could be explained by the reduction in hydration products that would fill in the micropores of the matrix, since SWWTS showed no pozzolanic reactivity. Pore sizes that prevail in the tested binder matrices are in accordance with the results measured on ordinary pervious concrete (the largest fraction of pores had a diameter between 0.02 and 0.2 μm). Low thermal conductivity nominates produced pavers as potential rooftop elements.

AB - Building industry presents one of the biggest pollutant producers, with simultaneous use of large quantities of natural materials. For this reason, in scientific cycles, in the last years analysis and testing of the possibilities of applying sustainable development principles during the production
of building materials, have been performed. Special attention has been paid to the application of recycled concrete aggregate, having in mind that its consumption reduces the quantities laid on the waste fields.
Within this paper possibilities of replacing 30% and 45% of natural stone aggregate with recycled concrete aggregate of the same fineness, in the production of asphalt mixtures for the base course has been analyzed. First, results of the standard test of asphalt mixtures were shown, and than
the assessment of the energy savings during the mixture production has been presented.

AB - In the course of XX century, the knowledge on the properties, preparation methods andthe possibilities for the application of lime mortars has been lost to a large degree. However, duringthe last three decades these materials have been used in the reparations and restorations of historicalbuildings, both for their compatibility with the existing mortars used for building and rendering, andfor their favorable physico-mechanical properties.Locally available component materials were chosen for the purposes of this dissertation, with theaim of preparing the mortars compatible with lime mortars that were used for rendering on theterritory of Serbia until the first half of XIX century. The lime putty, aged for six months, and riversand “Dunavac” were used as binders in two different fractions: with larger grains (0/4 mm) andwith smaller grains (0-0,5 mm) in all the investigated mortars examined within the experimental partof work.In the first part of the experiment were investigated two groups of mortars: the mortars in which thelime was partially replaced with natural zeolite and the mortars in which the river sand was partiallyor completely replaced with crushed brick. These mortar types were prepared for two lime/aggregateratios, 1:3 and 1:1 (volume), using two types of care. Investigations were performed on 19 mixturesin total, in fresh and hardened states, at different ages (mainly hydrophysical, microstructural andmechanical properties). In the second part of the experiment durability tests (resistance to the effects of frost and solublesalts) were performed. It has been shown that both additions that were used, when the mortarswere cured in the humid environment, affected the strength increase with the pressure increase, total porosity and the coefficient of capilary absorption. Both additions induced changes in the limemortars microstructure. It was concluded that the suggested method of preparation of compositesamples was adequate for performance of investigations of the durability of these materials.

AB - Salt crystallization of lime-based rendering mortars is one of the most common reasons for their deterioration. Still, testing of the resistance to soluble salt action has not yet been standardized for this type of material. Lime-based renders are usually placed in several layers, each of them having a specific role and composition. Nevertheless, tests used in the literature are commonly performed on standardized prismatic or cylindrical mortar specimens. This paper presents a comparison between damage development on the composite samples, prepared on porous stone substrate with two types of rendering mortars, and standardized prismatic mortar specimens. Samples were prepared with pure putty lime mortars and lime-putty based mortars with the addition of natural zeolite. Two types of composite samples and four types of prismatic samples were used during the test. The testing was conducted at the age of 90 days using two types of salt solutions (NaCl and Na2SO4). Damage development was followed visually during five cycles of wetting and drying. Salt distribution using XRF analysis was measured at the end of the test on composite samples. It was shown that damage development greatly depends both on sample and mortar types.

AB - The application of locally available component materials (lime putty and zeolitic rock as pozzolanic admixture) in two types of rendering mortars (designed for inner and outer render layer), was assessed through TG/DTA, XRD and MIP analysis and by testing the compressive strength, dynamic modulus of elasticity, water transport behavior and open porosity of mortars cured under two different regimes.Higher levels of lime replacement with fine natural zeolite (40% and 50% by mass), for both render layers, led to 1.5 to 2.5 times higher values of compressive strength when cured in humid conditions. The changes in zeolite content led to different pore size distributions of mortars and influenced their water transport behavior and open porosity. Overall, mortars with 40% and 20% of zeolite addition for the inner and outer layer (by mass), respectively, showed the best agreement of properties, when cured in humid conditions.

AB - Lime-based renders were usually placed in several layers, each of them having specific role and composition. In this paper, physical and mechanical properties of lime mortars for the final layer (coating) at the age of 90 and 180 days were presented. Durability aspect of the tested mortars was considered through testing of their behavior in the presence of the soluble salts. Four mortar mixtures were tested (one reference mortar and three mortars with partial replacement of lime with natural zeolite). For all mortars tested it can be seen that there was no improvement in strength between two tested ages. Mortar with 30% of lime replaced with zeolite reached higher value of compressive strength and almost the same value of capillary water coefficient as reference mortar. Vapor permeability grew with the increase of the natural zeolite content. Mortars showed good resistivity to the presence of sodium-chloride and developed cracks and loss of compressive strength when exposed to the solution of sodium-sulfate.

AB - Since lime renders have slow development of strength, especially in conditions of increased humidity, different types of additions were often used trough history, in order to improve their resistance and durability. This paper presents the effects of locally produced fine crushed tile aggregate addition on physical and mechanical properties of lime-based coating, representing final outer layer of traditional renders, both in normal and increased humidity conditions. This aggregate has been used as partial replacement of natural river aggregate, with granulation 0/0,5 mm in amount of 25, 50, 75 and 100% by volume. Flexural and compressive strength, capillary water absorption, ultrasonic pulse velocity, dynamic modulus of elasticity and open porosity were tested on prismatic samples at the ages of 14, 28 and 60 days. Results show the positive effects of crushed ceramic addition at all ages, especially for the samples cured in humid conditions.

AB - Renders, as the most exposed elements of historical buildings, have limited durability therefore their periodical inspection and replacements are necessary. Various studies have been made with a purpose to develop renders with improved resistance to environmental conditions, yet compatible with originally used materials (mortars and masonry). Although traditional renders were applied in several layers with different properties, most of the studies are based on only one layer production and testing. Natural zeolites are crystalline hydrated alumnosilicates with a specific three-dimensional framework structure. They have been used as a pozzolanic addition in lime mortars since ancient times. This paper presents the effects of natural zeolite addition on physical and mechanical properties of lime-based historical mortars, representing both base and superficial layer of traditional renders. Only locally available materials were used in the mix design. Capillary water absorption coefficient, water absorption after 48 hours, open porosity, flexural and compressive strength were measured on prismatic samples after 14, 28 and 60 days, and compared with the recommended properties for each render layer. The results demonstrate positive effects of zeolite addition to lime based render layers for restoration of historical buildings.

AB - The use of Self-Compacting Concrete, as a concrete that enables placing without compaction equipment, provides a range of benefits for the contemporary civil engineering practice. The ecological aspect, through possibility of using recycled aggregate obtained by grinding C&D waste concrete, is presented in the paper. The results of physical and mechanical experimental investigation of three concrete mixtures are presented. Besides the reference mixture, two more mixtures were made, prepared with recycled concrete aggregate. One mixture contained 50% mass replacement of coarse river aggregate with recycled concrete aggregate, and in the other one the total mass of coarse aggregate consisted of recycled concrete aggregate of the appropriate size. These series were designed using the Two Stage Mixing Approach (TSMA). Fresh mix tests included: measurement of density, slump flow test, V-funnel and L-box tests. Compressive, flexural, splitting and bond (pull-off) strength were determined on the hardened concrete. Tests proved that all the mixtures showed good properties, encouraging the possibility of the recycled concrete aggregate use for production of proper SCC.
