AB  - Numerical model of the soil is an essential part of the dynamic soil – structure interaction analysis. The soil model should take into account various phenomena that may occur due to dynamic loading, first of all radiation damping. In this paper, the damping phenomena is investigated by comparing the results of two different modeling approaches: analytical and discrete. Analytical model, developed by author, is obtained by using Integral transform method, based on Lame's differential equations solution. Discrete model is based on the finite element method and commercial software package Abaqus. Soil is considered an elastic, homogeneous and isotropic halfspace. Vertical vibrations due to dynamic force are considered. The results, presented for 3 characteristic frequencies, are in good agreement.

AB  - The aim of this paper is to discuss different finite element models of laminated composite plates with delaminations using the commercial software Abaqus CAE. Three-dimensional (solid), as well as two-dimensional (shell) models in Abaqus CAE, are considered. For comparison, the previously derived and validated numerical model of both intact and delaminated composite plates, based on the Generalized Layerwise Plate Theory of Reddy, is used. Influences of the finite element types and the mesh density on the free vibration response are analysed. Excellent agreement is achieved using the shell model in Abaqus CAE, while the limitations of solid models are noted.

AB  - In this paper the effects of the soil-structure interaction (SSI) on dynamic response of reinforced-concrete (RC) buildings of different heights are analyzed. Two 3D numerical models of 5 and 10-storey reinforced-concrete buildings founded on two different foundation types: plate and single foundations, lying on two types of soils: soft and stiff ones, are considered. Two types of the dynamic analysis are carried out: time history analysis and response spectrum method. The obtained results are compared. Ten earthquake records chosen for Belgrade site are used. The wave propagation in the soil is taken into account using the originally coded MATLAB program. The appropriate conclusions are derived according to the obtained results.

AB  - Simple numerical model for prediction of traffic induced vibration in buildings using wall-rigid floor-soil model is presented in this paper. Only vertical vibrations are considered. The wall is modeled using the axial spectral element, the rigid floor is modeled using effective inertial forces and the effect of soil is taken into account by the dynamic stiffness of rigid foundation on viscoelastic half space. The developed numerical model is used to predict vertical vibrations of 2-, 6- and 13-storey buildings. The calculated building vibrations are compared with the corresponding measured vibrations. The predicted responses closely mimicked the measured ones.

abstract = "Simple numerical model for prediction of traffic induced vibration in buildings using wall-rigid floor-soil model is presented in this paper. Only vertical vibrations are considered. The wall is modeled using the axial spectral element, the rigid floor is modeled using effective inertial forces and the effect of soil is taken into account by the dynamic stiffness of rigid foundation on viscoelastic half space. The developed numerical model is used to predict vertical vibrations of 2-, 6- and 13-storey buildings. The calculated building vibrations are compared with the corresponding measured vibrations. The predicted responses closely mimicked the measured ones.",
