AB - Pile foundations are frequently loaded by horizontal forces. In such cases, it is important to calculate lateral capacity of vertical piles. It is governed by the strength of the surrounding soil i.e. geotechnical capacity or pile strength parameters i.e. structural capacity of a pile. In this paper, geotechnical capacity is analysed first, and then the Rankine's, Broms' and Brinch-Hansen's methods for calculating ultimate bearing capacity of a single pile under lateral loads are presented. In accordance with complex geological conditions, which are very often in Serbia, Brinch-Hansen's method has an advantage over the other two methods. It can be applied both to uniform and layered soils under drained or undrained conditions. This is highly important for foundation of structures and landslide's remedial measures, too. Accordingly, load capacity calculation of a pile group is presented as well. In the case of homogenous surrounding soil, deformations of laterally loaded piles may be determined by elastic analysis. However, in the case of complex geological conditions, these deformations may be calculated by the concept of coefficient of subgrade reaction or by p-y curves, too. Finally, numerical analysis for calculation of geotechnical capacity and pile head displacement of laterally loaded piles for foundation of Clinker Bin in Beocin is presented.

AB - This research addresses surface analysis based on the Terrestrial Laser Scanning data exampled on rockslope site along M-22 highroad near Ljig in Serbia. The slope is about 100 m wide and over 20 m high. The scanning was performed in three epochs 2011, 2013 and 2014, but only the latter two were involved in the analysis due to insufficient quality of the pilot epoch. Gap between the latter two epochs coincided whit local rockfall events detected in the middle section of the slope. Scanning was performed by Leica ScanStation P20 instrument. Two consecutive point clouds were produced and gridded to 3 cm resolution. Comparative assessment of both point clouds and related surface models revealed the volumes and spatial extents of the anticipated rockfalls. Data were analyzed in two software packages: CloudCompare and GeomagicStudio, that have different modeling approaches based on direct point cloud analysis and mashed surface comparison, respectively. We compared advantages and disadvantages of each approach. Finally, we addressed how LiDAR technology can contribute qualitatively and quantitatively for research and monitoring of rockslopes.

AB - This paper treats development issues of the suburban areas of Belgrade city. A considerable growth that the city had experienced has led to excessive consumption of land and also to degradation of the landscape and loss of the natural biodiversity. This is why an augmentation of the current Master Plan within the administrative extents of the city is considered to be vital for consistent planning of suburban areas development. Model used in this paper considered defining land-use suitability, relying on available thematic data, including the following sources: topography, land-cover, geology, protected areas and some synthetic maps derived from these sources in a GIS environment. For this purpose Support Vector Machines (SVM) algorithm has been implemented in a typical supervised classification learning task. Two modelling schemes have been involved (since the main problem of the study was the unavailability of the land-use suitability in the testing area): MODEL1 has been built in the extents of the training area having only two land-use suitability classes at disposal (Unsuitable and Very Unsuitable) and extrapolated to the testing area within which the same two classes were known (thus available for model performance evaluation), while MODEL2 has been trained on all four land-use suitability classes, and extrapolated to the testing area, with unknown land-use classes. The second model was then correlated with the first one in order to estimate its otherwise disputable performance. Results of MODEL1 were satisfactory, with high overall accuracy (85%). MODEL2 visually shows a good tendency, and since it has at least 85% accuracy for those coincident two classes (Unsuitable and Very Unsuitable) with MODEL1, it is justified to assume that remaining two classes match similar accuracy rates. The model could be improved by more thorough optimization of the classifier parameters, which will require much longer experimenting costs.
