AB  - This paper presents a methodology for estimation of hydrodynamic loads acting on the bottom and at the walls of a stilling basin of a stepped chute with converging walls, based on the pressure measurements at the selected points of a scale model. This is the first study of hydrodynamic loads for this type of structure, and the first one of the loads on the stilling basin walls in general. For selected flow discharges, step heights and hydraulic jump submergence ratio, the hydrodynamic pressures were measured at a significant number of points, providing the spatio-temporal distribution of relevant hydrodynamic loads. The most influential effect proved to be a convergence angle of the chute walls. Based on these measurements, appropriate regression expressions were proposed for predicting hydrodynamic loads. These expressions show good agreement with measurements, offering a reliable tool for the structural design of stepped spillway stilling basins.

AB  - У оквиру докторске дисертације су анализирани хидродинамички утицаји на зидове и дно умирујућег базена иза степенастог брзотока гравитационих бетонских брана. На физичком моделу је испитан утицај геометријских карактеристика степенастог брзотока (степен сужења и висина степеника) и параметара течења (протока и дубине доње воде) на хидродинамичка оптерећења у умирујућем базену. На основу анализе резултата моделских испитивања, изведене су емпиријске једначине, којима се, у зависности од поменутих параметара, описују хидродинамички притисци на зидове и дно умирујућег базена. Провера предложених емпиријских израза извршена је на резултатима хидрауличких моделских испитивања степенастог пелива на брани „Бузина“. Резултати испитивања на физичком моделу затим су коришћени за одређивање емпиријских израза за добијање меродавних хидродинамичких утицаја на зидове и дно умирујућег базена. На основу добијених резултата предложене су мере за осигурање умирујућег базена од појаве потпритисака, односно од штетних утицаја кавитационе ерозије услед хидродинамичких утицаја. Резултати овог истраживања се могу успешно применити при пројектовању умирујућих базена, пре свега у нижим фазама пројектовања.
AB  - Hydrodynamic loads on the walls and the bottom of the stilling basin downstream of the stepped chute of a concrete gravity dam have been analysed. A physical scale model was constructed to invetigate the influence of the stepped chute geometry (the constriction angle and the step height) and flow characteristics (discharge, expressed via the Froude number at the constriction, and the downstream flow depth) on the hydrodynamic loads in the stilling basin. Based on the scale model results, new empirical expressions for the assessment of hydraulic loads on the walls and the bottom of the stilling basin are proposed. In addition, the risk of flow induced vibrations and cavitation were estimated. The obtained expressions were tested and validated using the results obtained on the physical scale model of the Buzina dam stepped spillway. The obtained results can be used during the early design stages for the assessment of hydrodynamic loads in stilling basins.

Several numerical models are compared with the procedure recommended by Zangar, and a new regression formula is proposed, that eliminates the observed discrepancies.
AB  - Analizirana je Zangarova metoda za proračun seizmičkih hidrodinamičkih opterećenja na vertikalnu i kosu konturu betonske gravitacione brane. Uočena su znatna odstupanja konvencionalnog Zangarovog postupka od tačnog rešenja dobijenog analitičkom integracijom Zangarovih eksperimentalnih krivih. Predloženi su jenostavni regresioni izrazi za proračun seizmičke sile i momenata savijanja, koji veoma dobro aproksimiraju analitičko rešenje.

AB  - The influence of converging stepped spillways on the dimensions of the stilling basins for RCC dams was examined, based on the results of physical modeling, existing empirical expressions, and basic laws of fluid mechanics and hydraulics. The study includes analysis of parameters that affect the magnitude of the hydrodynamic force which is transferred into the stilling basin, and presents an original design methodology. Analysis of the measured data and the methods for estimation of the sequent depth in the stilling basin are presented, with recommendations for design purposes and future studies.
AB  - Cilj rada je da se na osnovu zakona mehanike fluida, postojećih rezultata modelskih ispitivanja i empirijskih izraza, analizira uticaj neprizmatičnosti stepenastog brzotoka na potrebne dimenzije umirujućih bazena kod gravitacionih betonskih brana. Analizirani su parametri koji utiču na sile od vode na ulasku u umirujući bazen, na osnovu kojih je predložena metodologija za dimenzionisanje umirujućih bazena. Na osnovu merenja na fizičkom hidrauličkom modelu, upoređeni su rezultati proračuna razmatranih metoda i na osnovu njih date preporuke, kako za projektovanje, tako i za buduća istraživanja.

abstract = "The influence of converging stepped spillways on the dimensions of the stilling basins for RCC dams was examined, based on the results of physical modeling, existing empirical expressions, and basic laws of fluid mechanics and hydraulics. The study includes analysis of parameters that affect the magnitude of the hydrodynamic force which is transferred into the stilling basin, and presents an original design methodology. Analysis of the measured data and the methods for estimation of the sequent depth in the stilling basin are presented, with recommendations for design purposes and future studies., Cilj rada je da se na osnovu zakona mehanike fluida, postojećih rezultata modelskih ispitivanja i empirijskih izraza, analizira uticaj neprizmatičnosti stepenastog brzotoka na potrebne dimenzije umirujućih bazena kod gravitacionih betonskih brana. Analizirani su parametri koji utiču na sile od vode na ulasku u umirujući bazen, na osnovu kojih je predložena metodologija za dimenzionisanje umirujućih bazena. Na osnovu merenja na fizičkom hidrauličkom modelu, upoređeni su rezultati proračuna razmatranih metoda i na osnovu njih date preporuke, kako za projektovanje, tako i za buduća istraživanja.",

AB  - This study considers the hydraulic design of a shaft spillway with a constriction at the upstream end of the vertical bend. The effect of key factors relating to the capacity of the crest, shaft and tunnel is assessed using hydraulic model investigations of several spillways and available experience from other relevant research. As a result, new expressions for the discharge and velocity coefficients have been established. An algorithm for the design procedure, based on previous experience, is also presented.

AB  - This paper analyzes the hydrodynamic loads acting on the bottom and walls of a stilling basin, based on the pressure measurements at the selected points of a scale model. For different degrees of the hydraulic jump immersion, the hydrodinamic preassures were measured at a large number of points, provideing the reliable distribution of hydrodynamic loads.

AB  - Hydraulic design of shaft spillways (morning-glory spillways) with flow deflector before the vertical bend is considered. Based on the physical hydraulic model investigations of several structures and available experience of other authors, the key features, concerning capacity of the spillway, vertical shaft and tunnel-flow are defined and discussed. New expressions for discharge and velocity coefficients have been proposed, and some of the old ones improved. Also, a new procedure for the shaft design is proposed, including the spillway-to-shaft transition-reach definition. Finally, an algorithm for entire design procedure has been put forward.
AB  - Razmatrano je hidrauličko dimenzionisanje šahtnog preliva sa deflektorom ispred vertikalne krivine. Na osnovu hidrauličkih modelskih ispitivanja nekoliko objekata, kao i iskustva drugih autora, procenjeni su ključni činioci koji određuju propusnu sposobnost prelivnog, šahtnog i tunelskog dela objekta. Predloženi su novi i poboljšani raniji izrazi za procenu koeficijenata prelivanja, isticanja na deflektoru i koeficijenta brzine. Takođe, prikazan je i postupak za oblikovanje šahta, uključujući prelaznu deonicu između preliva i šahta. Na kraju se daje sažet algoritam celog postupka dimenzionisanja objekta.

AB  - Possibility of using hydropower potential of cooling water at the thermal power plant with open cooling system is presented in the paper. Cooling water flows gravitationally to the recipient - the river. In the periods of low water levels additional head occurs which could be used in small hydropower plant. Such a hydropower plant will operate only in periods when thermal power plant operates, with more or less constant flow and head that significantly changes in time. Small hydropower plant that uses cooling water of Thermal Power Plant 'Nikola Tesla B' is presented in the paper. The economic benefits of the HPP are calculated. The increase of profitability is assessed, bearing in mind that the plant would be realized as the Clean Development Mechanism project according to the Kyoto protocol. The obtained results show that the project is economically attractive, and it can be carried out with standard matured solutions of hydro turbines available at the market.
AB  - U radu je prikazana mogućnost korišćenja hidroenergetskog potencijala rashladne vode termoelektrane sa otvorenim sistemom hlađenja. Rashladna voda otiče gravitaciono do recipijenta - reke, zbog čega se u periodu nižih vodostaja javlja pad koji je moguće iskoristiti u maloj hidoelektrani. Takva hidroelektrana radi sa promenljivim padom i približno konstantnim protokom, i to samo u periodima kada radi i termoelektrana. Koncepcija je prikazana na primeru male hidroelektrane koja će koristiti hidroenergetski potencijal rashladne vode TE 'Nikola Tesla B'. Određeni su ekonomski pokazatelji ove hidroelektrane i ocenjeno je povećanje profitabilnosti imajući u vidu da postrojenje može biTI ostvareno u okvira Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projekta, u skladu sa Kjoto protokolom. Dobijeni rezultati pokazuju da je projekat ekonomski prihvatljiv, a moguće ga je ostvariti sa standardnim hidroturbinama dostupnim na tržištu.

The obtained results show that the project is economically attractive, and it can be carried out with standard matured solutions of hydro turbines available at the market., U radu je prikazana mogućnost korišćenja hidroenergetskog potencijala rashladne vode termoelektrane sa otvorenim sistemom hlađenja. Rashladna voda otiče gravitaciono do recipijenta - reke, zbog čega se u periodu nižih vodostaja javlja pad koji je moguće iskoristiti u maloj hidoelektrani. Takva hidroelektrana radi sa promenljivim padom i približno konstantnim protokom, i to samo u periodima kada radi i termoelektrana. Koncepcija je prikazana na primeru male hidroelektrane koja će koristiti hidroenergetski potencijal rashladne vode TE 'Nikola Tesla B'. Određeni su ekonomski pokazatelji ove hidroelektrane i ocenjeno je povećanje profitabilnosti imajući u vidu da postrojenje može biTI ostvareno u okvira Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projekta, u skladu sa Kjoto protokolom. Dobijeni rezultati pokazuju da je projekat ekonomski prihvatljiv, a moguće ga je ostvariti sa standardnim hidroturbinama dostupnim na tržištu.",

AB  - The hydro energy of the gravity water flow from the coal-fired thermal power plant units to the river in an open cooling system of turbine condensers is determined. On the basis of statistical data for a long time period, the water net head duration curve due to the river annual level change, as well as the reduction of the hydro energy potential due to the thermal power plant overhauls periods, are evaluated in the case study of the Thermal Power Plant "Nikola Tesla B" in Serbia. A small hydro power plant is designed for the utilization of this hydro energy, and the economic benefits of the project are calculated. The internal rate of returns and pay back periods are calculated in dependence of the electricity price and total investment costs. The increase of profitability is assessed, bearing in mind that the plant might be realized as the Clean Development Mechanism project according to the Kyoto protocol. The obtained results show that the project is economically attractive, and it can be carried out with standard matured solutions of hydro turbines available at the market. Even for the relatively low electricity price from small hydro power plants in Serbia of 0.08 epsilon/kW h the internal rate of return and the pay back period are 17.5% and 5.5 years.

AB  - Upstream cutoff in the concrete gravity dam foundation is introduced as a general stability measure in the beginning of the 20-th century. It become widely accepted in design practice in the late 50-ties. Nevertheless, very little is done in the stress evaluation in the cutoff zone, so far. The intention of this research is to obtain a reliable assessment of the stresses in this zone, particularly occurrence and distribution of tensile stresses, which may produce cracks. The research is based on a finite-element model, with special features in the foundation zone, and encompassed large range of dam heights, cutoff shapes, and foundation properties.
AB  - Kao mera opšte stabilnosti kod gravitacionih betonskih brana, uzvodni zub je prvi put primenjen početkom 20. veka, dok se sa njegovom širom primenom otpočelo pedesetak godina kasnije. Međutim, do sada nije posvećena dužna pažnja proceni naponskog stanja u oblasti uzvodnog zuba. Cilj istraživanja je da se dobije pouzdana procena napona u ovoj zoni, sa posebnim osvrtom na napone zatezanja, koji mogu da izazovu prsline u betonu. Istraživanje je zasnovano na metodi konačnih elemenata, sa originalnim rešenjem za temeljnu spojnicu. Parametarskom analizom je obuhvaćen širok opseg visina brana, oblika uzvodnog zuba i karakteristika temelja.

AB  - The concrete gravity dam spillway on the Jelezovac stream is presented. The overflow section of the dam is an original structure, designed as a stepped spillway, with bottom outlets and the modified USBR VI stilling basin with a baffle. The structural design consisted of the general stability computation, and the design of the basin elements was based on the hydrodynamic load, obtained from the hydraulic computations.

AB  - A double side-channel spillway consists of two spillways, with channels joining into a common single branch, noting that for some specific site conditions such arrangements may suit better than the conventional one-side-channel spillway. The capacity of double sidechannel spillways is estimated on the basis of known flow relations for the side-channels and results of specific hydraulic model studies.
AB  - U radu se prikazuje procena propusne moći dvostrukog bočnog preliva, koji se sastoji od dva bočna preliva, čiji se sabirni kanali sučeljavaju i spajaju sa zajedničkim odvodnim kanalom. U nekim slučajevima, ovakvo rešenje može se bolje prilagoditi terenskim uslovima od klasičnog bočnog preliva. AB  - This paper is concerned with the ski-jump design, mainly for the large overflow dams. Although the vast scope of literature on this subject exists, there is still a need to compile, elaborate and upgrade available knowledge. The paper addresses three important aspects of the ski jump design: take-off angle, length of the jet trajectory, and the plunge pool dimensions. The aim is to synthesize available knowledge, to present new formulas for a more convenient design, and to propose directions for the future research in this field.
AB  - Rad se bavi problemima koji se javljaju pri projektovanju ski odskoka kod visokih brana. Iako je u ovoj oblasti urađen veliki broj istraživanja i napisano mnogo radova, i dalje postoji potreba da se znanja dopune i objedine, kao i da se jasnije i za projektanta praktičara prihvatljivije formulišu. Rad obrađuje tri aspekta vezana za projektovanje ski odskoka: ugao odskoka mlaza, dužinu odskoka i dimenzije erozione jame. Cilj rada je: objedinjavanje znanja o navedenoj problematici, razvijanje izraza koji bi olakšali proračun i projektovanje odskoka, kao i utvrđivanje smernice za dalja istraživanja u ovoj oblasti.

AB  - The last of the four-paper serial on RCC dams refers to construction, quality-control and economic issues. The first part deals with the most important construction features, such as: concrete preparation, transportation, spreading, compaction, joints, galleries, drainage and concrete care and protection. Follows a section on laboratory and in-situ tests for the RCC concrete quality-control, based on the ACI and USAGE recommendations. The last part addresses economic issues, possible savings, and the RCC cost structure. .
AB  - Poslednji iz serije od četiri rada posvećenih valjanom betonu odnosi se na građenje, kontrolu kvaliteta i ekonomske aspekte RCC brana. U prvom delu rada obrađena su najvažnija pitanja tehnološkog procesa izgradnje ovog tipa brana, kao što su: spravljanje betona, transport, razastiranje, zbijanje, obrada horizontalnih spojnica, galerije i drenaže, nega i zaštita. Zatim su opisana laboratorijska ispitivanja i terenska merenja u cilju kontrole kvaliteta RCC-a i date preporuke na bazi istraživanja izvršenih u ACI i USACE. U poslednjem poglavlju analizirani su ekonomski aspekti, moguće uštede, struktura i postupak određivanja jedinične cene valjanog betona.

AB  - After the chronological review of the RCC dams development, and the analysis of the RCC components in the previous articles of this serial, this paper presents the most important issues of the gravity RCC dams design. In the beginning, the principles of the design are described; the cross-section shape and the stability issues are discussed. Follows the detailed description of the design procedure, including the seismic and thermal analysis. Joints, water stops, galleries and percolation control are considered next. Finally, foundation features, spillways and monitoring of the RCC dams are described. In such a way, the most important characteristics of the RCC dams are emphasized, as well as the similarities and differences in comparison to the gravity dams of conventional concrete, which has to be bared in mind during the design procedure.
AB  - Posle prikaza istorijskog razvoja RCC brana i analize komponenata i osobina valjanog betona (koji su dati u prethodnim člancima), u ovom radu su obrađena najvažnija pitanja u vezi sa projektovanjem gravitacionih brana od valjanog betona. Na početku su analizirani principi projektovanja, oblik poprečnog preseka i opšta stabilnost. Sledi opis dimenzionisanja, uticaji seizmike i termička analiza. Razmatranjem razdelnica, zaptivki, galerija i kontrole procurivanja dat je osvrt na najvažnije elemente upotrebljivosti. Na kraju su opisane specifičnosti temeljenja, evakuacije velikih voda i osmatranja brana od valjanog betona. Na taj način istaknute su najvažnije osobenosti RCC brana, kao i sličnosti i razlike u odnosu na klasične brane od hidrotehničkog betona, koje se moraju imati u vidu prilikom projektovanja.

AB  - This paper defines Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) and its main features as a new building material, as well as a new construction method. Some of the leading RCC-dam builders experience is illustrated through a survey, covering main construction features of 238 dams. Based on the survey data, an overview of most important RCC dams according to the height, the volume of concrete embedded, and the length of the crest is presented. Main features of RCC dams from China, Japan, USA, Brazil and Spain (being the most prominent countries in RCC-dam construction) are discussed in order to point out some possible concepts in RCC-dam construction.

Potom slede svetska iskustva u građenju brana od valjanog betona sa tabelom u kojoj je 238 brana i osnovni podaci o konstrukciji. Na osnovu tabele dat je pregled najznačajnijih brana po visini, zapremini ugrađenog valjanog betona i dužini u kruni. Da bi se ukazalo na moguće koncepcije u građenju brana od valjanog betona, analizirane su osnovne karakteristike brana u Kini, Japanu SAD, Brazilu i Španiji (koje predstavljaju vodeće zemlje u ovoj oblasti) njihove sličnosti i razlike. Na kraju je pregled osnovne literature korišćene pri pisanju rada.
