AB - With the aim of sustainable development of the construction industry, a large number of theoretical and practical research is currently being carried out on the possibilities of using various recycled materials in cement composites. The paper presents one possibility of designing the composition of a mortar-type composite made with recycled aggregate and fly ash. In order to improve the properties of the recycled aggregate, sodium silicate was used. The investigated properties included in the fresh state: density and consistency, measured by the flow-table method, and in the hardened state: density, flexural strength and compressive strength. The mixture made with sodium silicate and with recycled aggregate showed the lowest bulk density in the fresh state, and the stiffest consistency. In the hardened state, the mentioned mixture had the highest values of flexural strength and compressive strength, with the lowest value of density.

AB - The testing of physical and mechanical properties has always been the starting point for production of adequate cement composites, such as concrete and mortar. The need to preserve the environment by recycling materials, among other means, has found its recognition in production of mortars and concretes made with recycled aggregate. The paper deals with the specific aspects regarding the use of aggregate based on the recycled rubber, recycled brick and recycled concrete in mortar and concrete mixtures, with respect to the advantages and disadvantages of these aggregates. Properties such as density and consistency of fresh mixtures, as well as hardened state density, and hardened state compressive, flexural and bond strength will be used to quantify and assess the effect of the recycled materials on cement properties, in order to provide their practical use. The testing was conducted on the composites with local materials and in local laboratory conditions. A special part relates to the use of these materials in Self-Compacting Concrete mixtures, where the extreme attention to the component testing, mix proportioning, and production technology has to be paid.

AB - The replacement of natural aggregates (NA) with alternative aggregates in concrete can contribute to the sustainable development of the construction industry. This paper aims to present research investigating the effects of recycled concrete aggregate (RCA) and crumb rubber (CR) utilization on the performance of Self-Compacting Concrete (SCC) mixtures in both fresh and hardened states. For this purpose, SCC mixtures with three different replacement levels of CR - 0%, 20% and 30% by volume for fine aggregate and 100% coarse RCA were prepared along with the reference mixture containing NA only. To assess the effects of NA replacement, the physical and mechanical tests were conducted on prepared SCC mixtures and corresponding results were analysed and compared.

AB - This paper discusses the problem of theoretical and experimental determination of dynamic factors of road bridges. Various parameters influencing the dynamic behavior of bridges are briefly described and a review of regulations in this field is given. Also, an example of the numerical determination of the dynamic amplification factor on a specific bridge structure using dynamic time history analysis in SAP2000 software is presented. Some established methods for the experimental control of the design dynamic amplification on real structures are given, as well as a data and analysis of experimentally obtained results on a series of concrete bridges on the Banja Luka-Doboj highway.

AB - This study analyzes the feasibility of valorizing industrial by - product, fly ash from a thermal power plant as a partial replacement of mineral filler - limestone for the production of self-compacting concrete (SCC). Three types of SCC mixtures with different portions of fly ash and the reference mixture with limestone were designed. The synthesized SCCs in the fresh state were examined for density, entrained air content, flowability (Slump flow, Slump flow time (t500), V-funnel time (tv)), passing ability (L-box), and segregation resistance, while hardened state testing included: density, compressive and flexural strength, static modulus of elasticity, water permeability, resistance against freezing in the presence of de-icing salt, and SEM analysis. Taking into account the obtained results it can be concluded that the addition of fly ash has a positive impact on the concrete properties and that the optimal content of fly ash is 20 % with respect to the total filler mass.

AB - The paper presents the results of experimental study of Self-Compacting Concrete in fresh and hardened state. Five mixtures were made, in which the content of the following components was varied: aggregates, fly ash in as-delivered state and the total amount of the paste (a mixture of water, mineral additive and a binder). Fresh concrete tests included determining the following properties: bulk density, slump-flow, V-funnel time, height ratio of the L-box, as well as ambient temperature measurement. In the hardened state the tested properties included: hardened concrete density, compressive strength, flexural strength, ultrasonic pulse velocity and water penetration depth. Tests have shown that the increase in the content of the paste can improve the workability, as well as reduce the negative effect of the larger fly ash particles presence on the properties of the fresh concrete.
