AB - Two conventional experimental procedures for determination of the water permeability of saturated porous medium are the constant and the falling head permeability tests. The first one is more applicable on more permeable materials where the outflow from the sample is measured at variety of constant water heads, while the second one is more convenient for low permeable materials, utilizing the continuous measurements of the water head falling due to filtration through the saturated sample. However, neither of the two is useful for materials of high permeability and large cross-sectional area. The constant head permeability test faces technical issues since a significant and continuous water discharge is required, while the falling head permeability test has limitations due to neglection of the Forchheimer's high-velocity flow through the sample, but also the influence of inertia on the fluid mass. Here we proposed an approach for determination of the water permeability of saturated porous medium based on the agreement between the measured water level change in two connected reservoirs containing a porous sample and the new semi-analytical expression describing that change by accounting for the mentioned theoretical deficiencies. This efficient approach has been tested on four pervious paver samples, and results showed satisfactory agreement with the constant head permeability data. It has been also confirmed the proposed semi-analytical solution is more accurate than the falling head permeability approach in case of highly pervious materials, while for low permeable materials it reduces to the conventional approach.

It has been also confirmed the proposed semi-analytical solution is more accurate than the falling head permeability approach in case of highly pervious materials, while for low permeable materials it reduces to the conventional approach.",

Bimetalni fotokatalizatori, ZnAl i ZnCr, mešoviti oksidi su sintetisani i ispitivani fotokataličkim reakcijama razgradnje različitih organskih boja (rodamin B i brilijant krezil plavo).

AB - Various organic pollutants are discharged into the water from chemical, textile and
pharmaceutical industries every day. The photocatalytic wastewater treatment is an efficient,
cheap and eco-friendly process for the removal of organic toxic dyes, such as methylene blue,
which is one of the most common toxic dyes in wastewater. Photocatalysts ZnCr mixed
oxides were synthesized and thermally treated at 500 and 900 °C. Their efficiency in
photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue and the influence of the reaction parameters
were studied. High photocatalytic activity of both samples was observed, where the complete
decolorization (100%) and partial decolorization (45%) of the aqueous solution of methylene
blue were achieved after 6 hours for ZnCr 900 and ZnCr 500, respectively. In order to
determine the influence of the pH on the photocatalytic effieciency, the photodegradation
reactions were conducted using better performing photocatalyst at different pH values,
measuring the photodegradation efficiency at the same time intervals. The optimal pH
resulting in the most efficient photodegradation for ZnCr 900 photocatalyst was observed at
pH 12, which could be explained by the correlation with different textural and structural
properties of photocatalysts. The results showed that the obtained ZnCr mixed oxides are
highly efficient in the methylene blue photodegradation and have a great potential for the
application in the photocatalytic wastewater treatment processes.

pharmaceutical industries every day.
The results showed that the obtained ZnCr mixed oxides are
highly efficient in the methylene blue photodegradation and have a great potential for the
application in the photocatalytic wastewater treatment processes.",

AB - Waste and recycled materials have recently been used in the construction industry to comply with the principles of circular economy and sustainable development. The aim of this paper is to examine the potentials of solidified wastewater treatment sludge (SWWTS) as a supplementary cementitious material (SCM) in the production of lightweight pervious concrete pavers (LWPCP) suitable for pedestrian trails and rooftops (green) that comply with EU standards. Detailed characterization of SWWTS was performed, in order to understand its properties related to application as SCM, which led to the conclusion that it may be applied only as a filler, having 89.5% of Ca(OH)2. After thorough characterization, LWPCP samples were prepared and testing of physical and mechanical properties was conducted. The research showed that partial replacement of cement with SWWTS led to the decrease of all mechanical properties, ranging between 3.91 and 5.81 MPa for compressive strength and 0.97 to 1.23 MPa for flexural strength. However, all of the investigated mixtures showed a value higher than 3.5 MPa, which was defined as the lowest compressive strength in the range of pervious concrete properties. The addition of SWWTS led to a slight decrease in bulk density of the mixtures and an increase in water absorption. This could be explained by the reduction in hydration products that would fill in the micropores of the matrix, since SWWTS showed no pozzolanic reactivity. Pore sizes that prevail in the tested binder matrices are in accordance with the results measured on ordinary pervious concrete (the largest fraction of pores had a diameter between 0.02 and 0.2 μm). Low thermal conductivity nominates produced pavers as potential rooftop elements.

Improvements include the removal of magnesium and manganese. Improvements also mean choosing the proper water treatment technology that would meet the standards for drinking water quality. Technologies that are suitable for removal of these ions vary in many aspects, from technological challenges to cost analysis. After thorough analysis, the right choice, in this case, was two-stage nanofiltration (NF) which has a removal rate of more than 90%. The analysis also included detailed cost analysis.

AB - In this research the object of the analysis was the groundwater used for drinking which needs certain improvements. Improvements involve removal of magnesium and manganese. Improvements also mean the choice of proper water treatment technology which could meet the standards for drinking water quality. Technologies that are suitable for removal of these ions vary from classical to modern. Lime was not considered, ion exchange was an option, but membrane technologies were the ones that meet all the criteria. Since reverse osmosis (RO) is very expensive, and nanofiltration (NF) meets the required removal demands, meaning removal of divalent ions, it has been selected as the right choice for this case.

AB - This paper presents the results of the investigation of pollutant build-up on impervious surfaces of a parking lot in Belgrade, Serbia during the summer months. Contaminant build-up was found to be greater on asphalt surfaces directly exposed to vehicular traffic than on concrete walkways. The difference in the amounts of accumulated pollutants between asphalt and concrete were significant: for total solids (TS), total suspended solids (TSS), chemical oxygen demand (COD), heavy metals and total phosphorus (TP) accumulations were two to three times higher, while only 30% higher for total nitrogen (TN) and anions. Build-up of most of the measured parameters was best described by power functions. The highest surface loads were found for solids, COD, iron and zinc. A strong correlation was found between turbidity, TS, TSS, COD, heavy metals and phosphorus, while conductivity, nitrates and nitrites were weakly correlated to other parameters.

A strong correlation was found between turbidity, TS, TSS, COD, heavy metals and phosphorus, while conductivity, nitrates and nitrites were weakly correlated to other parameters.",

AB - Various particles and materials, including pollutants, deposited on urban surfaces are washed off by stormwater runoff during rain events. The interactions between the solid and dissolved compounds in stormwater runoff are phenomena of importance for the selection and improvement of optimal stormwater management practices aimed at minimizing pollutant input to receiving waters. The objective of this research was to further investigate the mechanisms responsible for the partitioning of heavy metals (HM) between the solid and liquid phases in urban stormwater runoff. The research involved the collection of samples from urban asphalt surfaces, chemical characterization of the bulk liquid samples, solids separation, particle size distribution fractionation and chemical and physicochemical characterization of the solid phase particles. The results revealed that a negligible fraction of HM was present in the liquid phase (less than 3% by weight), while there was a strong correlation between the total content of heavy metals and total suspended solids. Examinations of surface morphology and mineralogy revealed that the solid phase particles consist predominantly of natural macroporous materials: alpha quartz (80%), magnetite (11.4%) and silicon diphosphate (8.9%). These materials have a low surface area and do not have significant adsorptive capacity. These materials have a low surface area and do not have significant adsorptive capacity. The presence of HM on the surface of solid particles was not confirmed by scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray microanalyses. These findings, along with the results of the liquid phase sample characterization, indicate that the partitioning of HM between the liquid and solid phases in the analyzed samples may be attributed to precipitation processes.

AB - This paper presents the results of experimental investigations on contaminant buildup, distribution and dynamics on asphalt surfaces of parking lot in Belgrade, Serbia. The investigated pollutants were solids, nutrients, oils and grease, chlorides, sulphates and heavy metals. Contaminant buildup was found to be highly influenced by traffic intensity and local climate conditions. The highest surface loads were found for solids, chemical oxygen demand, iron and zinc. Pearson's correlation revealed a strong correlation between total suspended solids, heavy metals and phosphorus, but settleable solids, oils and grease, total nitrogen, biochemical oxygen demand and chlorides are weakly correlated to other contaminants. Bonding of contaminants to the solid phase of the urban runoff was examined and results show that much higher concentrations were associated with finer fractions. The parking lot contaminant spatial distribution results for the examined sites were largely scattered and did not follow any particular pattern.

AB - In this master thesis the sorption of heavy metals on activated carbon and zeolite was analyzed. The chosen heavy metals (Ag+, Cu2+, Zn2+) have been analyzed separately and as a mixture in order to check their sorption affinity toward granulated active carbon (GAC) and natural zeolite. These heavy metals are commonly found in some industrial wastewater and they need to be removed from effluent in order to protect environment. Heavy metals in solid phase are treated as solid waste materials that go on other ways of treatment. Granulated active carbon is widely used and efficient, but also expensive, and natural sorbents (such as zeolite) are low-cost and easily found in nature. The idea is to compare and try to change GAC with zeolite, if it proves to be efficient enough. The sorption capacity (efficiency of removal) and kinetics of sorption process (removal efficiency with time period) have been analyzed. Sorption efficiency has been analyzed through sorption kinetics and sorption isotherms. Sorption kinetics has been analyzed by using two models of kinetics: Pseudo-first order model (Lagergren model) and pseudo-second order model. Sorption isotherms have been analyzed by using three different isotherm models: Freundlich model, Langmuir model and Jovanovic model. For processing of results 'DataFit' (Oakdale engineering, USA) was used and data in the fifth chapter, 'Results and discussion', are obtained by using this software. Analysis of samples was carried out in a flame atomic absorption spectrometers in 'Anahem' laboratory and at the Institute of Nuclear Sciences 'Vinca'. Sample preparation, solutions and execution of experiments was carried out in the laboratory of Civil Engineering, University of Belgrade. By analyzing the results of sorption kinetics, it was found that both sorbent have the greatest affinity for silver and that the adsorption of silver occurs at a higher speed than the adsorption of copper and zinc. Competitive sorption showed that 50 % of silver ions from a mixture was adsorbed after 2 min in contact with activated carbon. Using zeolite as a sorbent, this time was increased to 30 min. For the adsorption of the same amount (50%) of copper and zinc ions from the mixture took more than 24 hours. All kinetic models and models of isotherms showed a similar trend. Experiments have shown that zeolite possesses sufficient sorption efficiency to replace the activated carbon in the process of purification of industrial waste water.

AB - Analysis and monitoring of arsenic is still a challenging analytical task. Due to its complex behaviour (different forms of arsenic that can be present depending on pH and oxidation states of arsenic) as well as demanding analytical procedures and instrumental tools for control of arsenic concentration in drinking water which is set to 10 mu g L-1, there are still some open questions and issues when arsenic is the scientific topic. In this paper the idea was to use a multivariate statistical approach to identify the key variables and their relation to high arsenic concentration in surface waters of Serbia. The main idea was to identify and connect the key water quality parameters with arsenic concentration and to suggest adequate treatment technologies for water purification and arsenic removal. The data set for multivariate statistical approach were water quality parameters of surface water samples from Serbia. The artificial neural network (ANN) was applied for data analysis. After applying ANN the results showed strong relation between arsenic concentration and P-tot, SO42-, COD, carbonate, N-org, DO, and SiO2 content. What could be concluded from the obtained results is that high concentration of organic matter, proportional to nutrients (nitrogen and phosphorus), silica (SiO2) and dissolved oxygen highly correlates with the dissolved arsenic which implies that the most adequate technology for the water treatment could be precipitation, which in general includes coagulation. What remains unquestioned and needs to be performed is arsenic speciation analysis.
