AB  - One of the key problems that occurs in the management of the maintenance of state transport infrastructure facilities is the lack of systematized and updated information on the condition of the elements of infrastructure facilities such as the condition of embankments, bridges, tunnels, retaining structures etc. Systematized information enables rational, efficient maintenance, timely reactions that will reduce the risk of building failures and increase traffic safety. In addition, such an approach contributes to the optimization of the allocation of budget funds for that purpose and the rational use of available technical resources. Management of the maintenance process of retaining structures requires the formation of a unique (central) database that will record all retaining structures that meet the prescribed criteria for recording and systematically monitor their condition over time. This paper presents the methodology for the formation and development of a database of retaining structures, using examples of good practice.

AB  - Klimatske promene negativno utiču na životnu sredinu, privredu, zdravlje i bezbednost
ljudi. Sa intenziviranjem klimatskih promena tokom 21. veka ugrožena je i geotehnička
infrastruktura. Poznavanjem trenutnih i budućih klimatskih trendova u Evropi i Srbiji i klimatskih
scenarija može se vršiti analiza i kvantifikacija rizika i odrediti uticaj na geotehničku
infrastrukturu. U takvoj analizi, neizvesnost je neizostavan deo, kao i nepouzdanost/varijabilnost
osnovnih ulaznih promenljivih. Analiza interakcije geotehničke infrastrukture sa atmosferom
podrazumeva modeliranje termo-hidro-mehaničkih procesa koji se odvijaju u tlu i koji su povezani
sa klimatskim i vegetacionim uslovima na površini tla. Termo-hidro-mehaničko sprezanje
predstavlja najnapredniji numerički pristup u analizi uticaja klimatskih promena na infrastrukturne
nasipe.

AB  - Veliki infrastrukturni projekti zahtevaju upotrebu velike količine prirodnih materijala. U cilju
očuvanja prirodnih materijala, smanjenja prostora za deponovanje otpada i održivog razvoja, u
ovom radu su prikazani rezultati laboratorijskih ispitivanja pepela iz toplane u Kragujevcu za
primenu u putogradnji. Izvršeni su sledeći laboratorijski opiti za određivanje fizičkih i
mehaničkih svojstava pepela: specifična težina, granulometrijski sastav, parametri zbijenosti,
pritisna čvrstoća (UCS), opit direktnog smicanja, CBR, edometarski opit. Diskutovana su
svojstva pepela sa aspekta primene u putogradnji.

AB  - У раду је приказан преглед литературе о могућностима употребе пепела и шљаке за изградњу саобраћајне инфраструктуре, с обзиром да велики инфраструктурни пројекти захтевају значајну употребу природних материјала. Затим је дат преглед резултата лабораторијског испитивања пепела и шљаке из термоелектрана у Србији за стабилизацију слабо носивог тла и као материјала за изградњу насипа. Испитивана су инжењерска својства летећег пепела и мешавине пепела и шљаке са и без активатора (цемента и креча). Резултати указују на позитивне ефекте стабилизације тла, у смислу повећања чврстоће и смањења експанзивности. Такође, летећи пепео и мешавине пепела и шљаке имају добре механичке карактеристике, што их у комбинацији са више других предности (мања потрошња енергије и емисија CО2, уштеда природних материјала и мања подручја депонија), чини погодним материјалима за израду насипа саобраћајнице.

AB  - U radu je dat prikaz sanacionog rešenja temeljne konstrukcije jednog stambenog objekta
u Zemunu. Do oštećenja objekta došlo je usled neravnomernog sleganja temeljnog tla lesoidnog
porekla kao posledica havarije na vodovodnoj infrastrukturi. Sleganjem tla je bilo obuhvaćeno
nekoliko objekata koji su pretrpeli znatna oštećenja. U radu je dat detaljan prikaz usvojene
sanacione mere za objekat u Dobanovačkoj ulici broj 34d , koja se bazirala na primeni "Mega"
šipova.

AB  - U radu je prikazan kratak pregled odredbi Evrokoda 7 za proračun
aksijalne nosivosti šipova. Date su smernice i preporuke za proračun aksijalne
nosivosti utisnutih MEGA šipova u skladu sa izabranim proračunskim
pristupom prema nacionalnom prilogu za Evrokod 7 (Deo 1) u Srbiji i
specifičnostima tehnologije izvođenja. Prikazana je uporedna analiza proračuna
prognozne nosivosti MEGA šipova prema Evrokodu 7 i ranijem Pravilniku o
tehničkim normativima za temeljenje građevinskih objekata, zasnovanom na
teoriji dopuštenih napona, na primeru sanacije temelja stambene zgrade u
Zemunu. Dobijeni rezultati potvrđuju adekvatnost izabranog proračunskog
pristupa u nacionalnom prilogu i predloženih smernica za proračun nosivosti
MEGA šipova.
AB  - Short review of provisions of Eurocode 7 for determination of pile axial bearing
capacity is given in this paper. Design guidelines and recommendations for determination
of bearing capacity of jacked-in MEGA piles, according to pile installation
technology and chosen design approach in National Annex for Eurocode 7 (Part 1) in
Serbia are presented. A validation of proposed guidelines through comparison with previous
concept of allowable pile force is presented on the example of the rehabilitation of
the foundations of a residential building in Zemun, Serbia. Obtained results confirm the
adequacy of chosen design approach and proposed guidelines for determination of bearing
capacity of MEGA piles.

AB  - The soil-vegetation-atmosphere interaction is a dynamic process, which governs the continuous
change of soil hydrological conditions. These changes directly affect the seasonal and long-term
performance of infrastructure cut and embankment slopes. It has been established that the combined
effect of vegetation and precipitation induces seasonal cycles of shrinkage and swelling, which give rise to serviceability issues and consequential high maintenance costs.
Numerous researchers attempted to incorporate the effect of the soil-vegetation-atmosphere system interaction in the analysis of boundary value problems. The goal was to improve the understanding of the effects of this complex interaction on the hydro-mechanical response of infrastructure embankments. However, the proposed approaches were unable to quantitatively reproduce the observed hydraulic behaviour. 
Within the framework of the present thesis, a different approach is proposed. It is based on the fully coupled flow-deformation analysis, combined with unsaturated soil mechanics theory and
sophisticated climatic boundary conditions, implemented within the ICFEP numerical code. Two
types of unsaturated constitutive models were applied, elasto-plastic unsaturated Mohr-Coulomb type model and advanced BBM model. The instrumented railway embankment located in the UK,
suffering from poor track ride quality related to the presence of vegetation on the slopes, is used for validation purposes. The comparative analysis suggests that proposed models are plausible
representative of reality.
Subsequently, a comprehensive parametric analysis is conducted. The results indicate that
unsaturated hydraulic properties of clay fill represent the key factors governing the embankment
response to seasonal wetting-drying patterns.

The alternatives to traditional materials for subsoil stabilization and embankments

AB  - Major infrastructure projects require significant amount of natural materials, often followed by the soft soil stabilization using hydraulic binders. This paper presents the results of a laboratory study of alternative waste materials (fly ash and slag) that can be used for earthworks. Results of high plasticity clay stabilization using fly ash from Serbian power plants are presented in the first part. In the second part of the paper, engineering properties of ash and ash-slag mixtures are discussed with the emphasis on the application in road subgrade and embankment construction. Physical and mechanical properties were determined via following laboratory tests: Specific gravity, grain size distribution, the moisture–density relationship (Proctor compaction test), unconfined compressive strength (UCS), oedometer and swell tests, direct shear and the California bearing ratio (CBR). The results indicate the positive effects of the clay stabilization using fly ash, in terms of increasing strength and stiffness and reducing expansivity. Fly ashes and ash-slag mixtures have also comparable mechanical properties with sands, which in combination with multiple other benefits (lower energy consumption and CO2 emission, saving of natural materials and smaller waste landfill areas), make them suitable fill materials for embankments, especially considering the necessity for sustainable development.

AB  - Standard SRPS EN 1997-1 je krajem 2018. godine preveden i usvojen, dok je izrada nacionalnih priloga u završnoj fazi. S tim u vezi kao i zbog brojnih nedoumica stručne javnosti u vezi sa primenom EN 1997-1, autori su u ovom radu dali pojašnjenja procesa projektovanja aksijalno pritisnutih šipova prema EN7. Razlike između domaćeg pravilnika i EN7 ilustrovane su kroz numerički primer, čiji je primarni cilj uporedna analiza dužina šipova prema tradicionalnom postupku(globalni faktor sigurnosti) i prema EN7 (parcijalni faktori). Sprovedene analize potvrdile su podobnost preporučene vrednosti modelskog faktora γM date u nacrtu nacionalnog priloga.
AB  - The standard SRPS EN 1997-1 was translated and adopted at the end of 2018, while the development of national annexes is in the final stage. In this regard, and due to concerns of engineering community about the application of EN 1997-1, the authors of this paper have provided clarification of the design process of axially loaded compression piles according EN7. The differences between the national code of practice and EN7 are illustrated through a design example, which aimed to compare pile lengths obtained applying the traditional procedure (global security factor) and to EN7 (partial factors). The performed analyses confirmed the suitability of the recommended value of the model factor γM provided in the draft national annex.

mechanical properties of fly ash and mixtures of fly ash and slag from landfills of
thermal power plants “Nikola Tesla” and “Kostolac” in terms of their use for
road embankments construction. Following mechanical material properties were
tested: unified compressive strength (UCS), shear strength, deformability, CBR,
and resistance to frost. Results of the study have shown that waste materials
from Serbian thermal power plants can be successfully used as the building and
reconstruction material for road subgrade. This can bring multiple economic
benefits, such as: saving of natural materials, lower energy consumption, lower
pollution of environment, and less waste landfill areas.

AB  - This paper presents the evaluation of methods for predicting the ultimate axial bearing capacity of single piles based on the cone penetration test (CPT) results, and the evaluation of static methods based on the effective and total stress analysis. Seventeen jacked-in MEGA piles and eight Franki piles of different lengths are considered. The results show that the Bustamante & Gianeselli (LCPC) method is the most appropriate for the studied geotechnical conditions and pile types.

AB  - The results of laboratory research of high plasticity clay stabilization using liquid chemical additive Polybond and the fly ash from Serbian thermal electric power plant Kostolac are presented in this paper. In order to determine the effects of stabilization, extensive laboratory study of physical and mechanical properties of the stabilized soil (unconfined compression strength, shear strength parameters, CBR, deformation parameters, swelling, coefficient of permeability, resistance to freezing) were performed. The results of the research clearly indicate the positive effects of the clay stabilization using Polybond, as well as fly ash, and confirm that these additives can be successfully applied as a clayey soil stabilizers in various practical applications such as: stabilization of low bearing subgrade, construction of embankments and geotechnical structures of low permeability, improvement of mechanical properties of top subgrade layers etc. The use of stabilizers reduces energy consumption, as well as the usage of natural materials such as stone aggregates.

The results of the research clearly indicate the positive effects of the clay stabilization using Polybond, as well as fly ash, and confirm that these additives can be successfully applied as a clayey soil stabilizers in various practical applications such as: stabilization of low bearing subgrade, construction of embankments and geotechnical structures of low permeability, improvement of mechanical properties of top subgrade layers etc. The use of stabilizers reduces energy consumption, as well as the usage of natural materials such as stone aggregates.",

AB  - The ash landfills are a major environmental issue. The use of ash for the highway and railway substructure achieves a double benefit: it significantly reduces the deposited quantities of ash as well as the consumption of natural materials such as crushed stone, gravel and sand. The investigation of engineering properties of fly ash from the power plant in Serbia was conducted at the Laboratory of Soil Mechanics at the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Belgrade. Relevant physical and mechanical properties of ash and mixtures with binders (cement/lime) were investigated. The ash was also tested from the aspect of the potential environmental impact, which primarily depends on the leaching behaviour of the present trace elements. The results of the study showed that fly ash meets technical and environmental requirements and that has the potential for use in highway substructure, such as construction of embankments and stabilization of soft soils. Benefits of utilization of ash and slag was shown in the case of the construction of a high embankment on soft soil on the highway section Obrenovac-Ub in Serbia.

AB  - This paper describes the solution of the rehabilitation of the foundations of the building of the Faculty of Chemistry in Belgrade, which suffered damage as a result of differential settlements, which happened several times during the exploitation. It was determined that the cause of settlements was moisturing of loess soil due to periodic watter spilling from da- maged water network. Rehabilitation is done by jacking of MEGA piles, which prevents the appearance of additional settlements. The rehabilitation was carried out in 2012-2013. In a second part of the paper, the evaluation of pile capacity prediction methods based on CPT test results is carried out by comparing with the measured pile jacking force.

AB  - U radu su prikazani rezultati laboratorijskih ispitivanja mogućnosti stabilizacije gline visoke plastičnosti primenom tečnog hemijskog aditiva Polybond, kao i stabilizacije tla kombinacijom letećeg pepela iz TE Kostolac i Polybonda. U cilju utvrđivanja efekata stabilizacije sprovedena su opsežna laboratorijska ispitivanja fizičko-mehaničkih karakteristika stabilizovanog tla (jednoaksijalna čvrstoća, parametri smičuće čvrstoće, CBR, modul stišljivosti, potencijal bubrenja, koeficijent vodopropusnosti, otpornost na dejstvo mraza). Rezultati istraživanja jasno ukazuju na pozitivne efekte stabilizacije gline Polybondom i potvrđuju stavove da se isti može uspešno primeniti kao stabilizator glinovitih vrsta tla u različitim praktičnim primenama kao što su: stabilizacija slabo nosivog tla, izgradnja nasipa i geotehničkih konstrukcija male vodopropusnosti, poboljšanje mehaničkih osobina gornjih slojeva donjeg stroja saobraćajnica itd.

Tests were performed on mixtures with high plasticity clay and fly ash sampled from thermal electric power plant ”Kostolac”. Effects of fly ash on moisturedensity relationship, UCS, CBR, deformation parameters and swell potential were evaluated. Results of the research indicate that fly ash can improve some engineering properties of this type of soil. The most significant improvement is the increase in CBR values which makes this material usable for road construction.
AB  - U radu su prikazani rezultati laboratorijskih ispitivanja stabilizacije gline visoke plastičnosti primenom letećeg pepela iz TE Kostolac. Ispitan je uticaj pepela na odnos vlažnosti i suve zapreminske težine, jednoaksijalnu čvrstoću, CBR, module deformabilnosti i potencijal bubrenja. Dobijeni rezultati su pokazali da se primenom pepela kao stabilizatora mogu poboljšati neke inženjerske karakteristike ove vrste tla. Najveće poboljšanje je porast CBR vrednosti, što ovo tlo čini upotrebljivim u putogradnji.

AB  - Results of laboratory research focusing on soil stabilization, using fly ash without activators, are presented in the paper. Two types of fine-grained soils were tested: low to medium plasticity clay and very expansive, medium to high plasticity clay. Soil-fly ash mixtures were prepared at optimum fly ash contents (15 and 20%). The effects of fly ash on the soil plasticity, moisture-density relationship, unconfined compressive strength, shear strength parameters, CBR (California Bearing Ratio) values, deformation parameters, and swell potential, were evaluated. Results obtained show that the use uf fly ash can significantly contribute to the improvement of soil properties.

Soil-fly ash mixtures were prepared at optimum fly ash contents (15 and 20%). The effects of fly ash on the soil plasticity, moisture-density relationship, unconfined compressive strength, shear strength parameters, CBR (California Bearing Ratio) values, deformation parameters, and swell potential, were evaluated. Results obtained show that the use uf fly ash can significantly contribute to the improvement of soil properties.",

AB  - U radu su prikazani rezultati laboratorijskih ispitivanja stabilizacije gline visoke plastičnosti primenom letećeg pepela iz termoelektrane Kolubara, sa i bez aktivatora cementa ili kreča. Ispitan je uticaj pepela na odnos vlažnosti i suve zapreminske težine, jednoaksijalnu čvrstoću, parametre smičuće čvrstoće, CBR, module deformabilnosti i potencijal bubrenja. Dobijeni rezultati su pokazali da se primenom čistog pepela kao stabilizatora mogu poboljšati neke inženjerske karakteristike ove vrste tla, dok su sa dodatkom cementa ili kreča zabeleženi značajni efekti stabilizacije.

AB  - This paper presents the results of laboratory research of high plasticity clay stabilization using non self-cementing class F fly ash (also known as pulverised fuel ash or PFA) with and without activator - cement. Fly ash was collected from Serbian electric power plant "Kostolac". Soil-fly ash mixtures were prepared at different fly ash contents (10-25%). Tests were conducted on specimens compacted at the optimum water content from Standard Proctor compaction test. Effects of fly ash on physical and mechanical properties of soil such as plasticity, unconfined compressive strength, effective shear strength parameters, CBR, deformation parameters and swell potential were evaluated. Results of the research indicate that used fly ash without activator can effectively improve some engineering properties of the soil. After addition of cement the stabilization effects substantially were improved.

AB  - U radu su prikazani neki rezultati laboratorijskih ispitivanja stabilizacije prašinaste gline primenom elektrofilterskog pepela iz termoelektrane "Kolubara". AB  - Soil-nailing tehnika se vec dugi niz godina u svetu uspešno koristi za stabilizaciju i ojacenje zemljanih masa. U nizu geoloških formacija soil-nailing potpornim konstrukcijama se daje prednost u odnosu na tradicionalne metode podgradivanja. Nažalost u našoj zemlji potencijal ove metode do sada nije potpuno iskorišcen. Ideja autora ovog preglednog rada bila je da inženjere i projektante gradevinske struke bliže upozna sa mogucnostima koje ova inovativna tehnologija pruža. U radu su sažeto prikazane osnovne karakteristike, istorijat razvoja, tehnicki aspekti, oblasti primene i prednosti i ogranicenja sistema soil-nailing. Soil nailing is being successfully used for many years all over the world to improve stability of excavated vertical cuts and existing slopes. In a wide variety of ground conditions soil nail walls present advantages over traditional retaining structures. Unfortunately in our country the potential benefits of this method have not been fully exploited. This review is intended to introduce practitioners to the possibilities that this innovative technology can offer. The paper summarizes the major features, history and development, technical aspects, application fields and benefits and limitations of soil nailing.

Tests were conducted on mixtures with alevrite - very expansive, medium to high plasticity clay and fly ash sampled in thermo electric power plant ”Kolubara”. Effects of fly ash on physical and mechanical properties of soil (grain size distribution, Atterberg limits, moisture-density relationship, unconfined compression strength, effective shear strength parameters, CBR, deformation parameters, swell potential) were evaluated. Results of the research indicate that fly ash can effectively improve some engineering properties of soil. The most significant improvement is the increase in CBR values and reduction of swell potential because it makes this material usable for road construction.
