AB  - The paper discusses the structural behaviour of concrete-filled steel tube columns (CFT)
when applied to the top-down construction method as temporary internal supports for ceilings. Their
ultimate capacity to take into account the actual boundary conditions of the column is essential for
successful application in construction. The paper presents the full-scale in situ testing of four slender
specimens with variable D/t ratios under concentric axial loading. The CFT columns were supported
on the previously jacked concrete piles. In addition, detailed finite element numerical models in
ABAQUS and PLAXIS computer programs were developed. The models include the nonlinear
behaviour of materials and the nonlinear behaviour of soil. The soil–pile–column interaction and
impact of the CFT column–pile connection stiffness on global column stability were considered.
The numerical model was validated by comparison with the experimental results. In conclusion,
the coefficient for the effective buckling length of the studied columns is proposed. Finally, the
experimental results of the critical buckling forces were compared with widely used international
design codes Eurocode 4-EC4, American standard-ACI and the Australian standard-AS.

AB  - The paper compares the following methods for analysis of composite steel-concrete beams: the
“exact” analysis method, simplified method, effective modulus method and the method proposed
by Eurocode 4 design code. The exact analysis method is based on the application of linear
integral operators. Simplified analysis is derived from the exact method and adopts the
assumption that generalized displacements change linearly with the concrete creep function.
Effective modulus method and the method proposed by the Eurocode 4 design code are algebraic
methods, widely used in practice. The results obtained using the mentioned four methods are
compared on one example.

AB  - During the previous period, large and uneven settlements of the ''UNIVEREXPORT'' distribution center occurred on one part of the main structure and foundation slab. These settlements are such that they affect the normal functioning of the object. The structure of the object on the columns, is founded on "Franki" piles, and the floor construction directly on the ground over a layer of tiles. This floor structure is loaded with extremely high vertical live loads. Based on the analysis of variant solutions, the most favorable solution was adopted as strengthening of the floor structure by jacking a certain number of composite piles into the ground until the required load-bearing capacity is achieved.

AB  - This paper presents the new type of Preisach model that describes the elastoplastic behavior of structural mild steel under axial monotonic tension load with damage. Newly developed model takes into account elastic region, horizontal yield plateau, plastic hardening region, and softening region due to material damage under tension. In order to study the monotonic behavior of structural mild steel and find suitable material properties for the model, monotonic axial tensile tests up to the failure are carried out. Tests are conducted on specimens of the three most common types of European structural steel S235, S275, and S355. The basis of the model represents a mathematical description of material single crystal monotonic axial behavior. In the multilinear mechanical model, a drop in stress, after achieving ultimate stress under tension is achieved by a negative stiffness element. The good agreement with experimental results is accomplished by parallel connection of infinitely many single crystal elements, forming the polycrystalline model. The model represents a good solution for common engineering practice due to its geometrical representation in form of Preisach triangle.

Behaviour of thin-walled cylindrical and conical shells: Carbon vs. stainless steel

AB  - Thin-walled cylindrical and conical shells represent one of the most complex structural elements considering their behaviour and susceptibility to buckling. A brief theoretical review including the presentation of different currently available design recommendations is given in this paper. Influence of initial imperfections on nonlinear behaviour of cylindrical and conical shells is also presented through numerical analysis. Shells with different wall thicknesses and different values of initial imperfections, but constant length and diameter of shell are analysed. Numerical analysis includes materially and geometrically nonlinear analysis of cylindrical and conical shells, using experimentally obtained stress-strain relation of carbon steel and stainless steel. Material nonlinearity and initial geometrical imperfections resulted in significantly lower buckling resistance of shells.
AB  - Tanke kružne cilindrične i konusne ljuske predstavljaju jedan od složenijih konstruktivnih elemenata u pogledu ponašanja i osetljivosti na izbočavanje. U radu je dat kratak teorijski osvrt, s prikazom različitih, trenutno dostupnih, proračunskih preporuka. Prikazana je numerička analiza uticaja početnih imperfekcija na nelinearno ponašanje kružnih cilindričnih i konusnih ljuski. Analizirane su ljuske različite debljine zida, s konstantnim vrednostima dužine i prečnika ljuske, kao i s različitim vrednostima početnih imperfekcija. Analiza obuhvata uticaj materijalne i geometrijske nelinearnosti na ponašanje ljuski od ugljeničnog i nerđajućeg čelika, uključujući eksperimentalne krive napon-dilatacija. U radu je pokazano da materijalna nelineranost i početna geometrijska imperfekcija dovode do značajnog pada nosivosti na izbočavanje ljuski.

AB  - Aim of this paper is to investigate wind pressure distribution on low-rise industrial
building based on the results from atmospheric boundary layer wind tunnel experiments.
Building model is a hanger with a tilted roof with an inclination of 5°. Values of mean and
fluctuating pressure coefficients measured on the surface of the roof and side walls of the
model are discussed in the paper. Five wind approaching angles are considered: 0°, 15°,
30°, 45° and 90°. The investigation can offer some basic understanding of wind behaviour
and effects on low-rise industrial buildings regarding different wind angles.

AB  - In this paper, pressure field over the roof of low-rise building model has been investigating using numerical simulations. The results show that there is a significant influence of the inlet definition on the mean and standard deviation of the pressure coefficient.

AB  - The paper presents the experimental testing of the axial capacity and stability of short,
moderately slender and slender circular CFT columns. For the purpose of sample testing a special
set of hydraulic presses was constructed. In order to achieve centric loading of the load, a device
calotte was used. With the help of the dosing and gauges placed at the top of the column, force
and vertical displacement were measured continuously. The test was carried out on two short
columns 0.5 m and 1.0 m long, and four moderately slender and slender columns with a length of
4.0 m with different boundary support conditions. In the short CFT columns the confinement
effect was taken into account as well and loss of bearing capacity occurred due to the steel profile
yield strength. In moderately slender and slender columns, the loss of stability occurs before the
loss of the load capacity of the column. The obtained results of the experimental tests were then
compared with the valid regulations: EC4, ACI, AS and AISC. It can be concluded that EC4
gives the most approximate results to the experiment.

AB  - Improving the energy efficiency in buildings in the Republic of Serbia has been recognized as an area with the greatest potential for reducing overall energy consumption. It also has an indirect impact on improving the quality of life and comfort in buildings, protecting the environment and reducing the emission of harmful gases, as well as reducing the cost of heating. Permanent population increase resulted in the urbanization process that had different consequences for the quality of life and a sustainable future. Green roofs in urban areas of developed countries have become a legal obligation and policies and programs that support the greening of roofs are aimed at preserving the environment and ensuring the sustainable development of cities. This paper deals with an analysis of the influence of green roofs on the energy performance of existing buildings in the center of Belgrade. One of the conclusions of this research points out that it is necessary to perform research studies and experimental analyses for the application of green roofs in our climatic conditions. Thus, the research focus should be on legal regulation that would establish calculation and design standards for green roof systems.

AB  - The paper contains the authors’ experiences and findings that were yielded as a result of measurements of the thermodynamic properties of traditional renewable materials. As a testament to the quality of existing traditional constructions and construction techniques that are already scattered around the world, we have only grown stronger in our decision to completely dedicate ourselves to the development of new construction systems with the application of traditional materials in their original or partially altered form. To digress a little, climate changes have already resulted in short summer heat waves in Europe and the world. Artificial air conditioners are not a proper solution for the protection of people in housing objects. The only correct and plausible solution is for the walls to provide air-conditioning of the inner space and also the protection of the people which would be done in a completely natural way in accordance with the thermodynamic laws of water vapor exchange which in turn would provide cooling of the walls.

AB  - The use of concrete filled steel tubes (CFT columns) in seismically active regions is becoming more common and widespread due to numerous advantages they offer over steel and reinforced concrete columns, such as increased ductility, buckling delay and good cyclic performance. Since the behavior of CFT columns is highly nonlinear, a numerical model needs to consider different nonlinear effects. The model proposed in this paper adopts the nonlinear force based beam/column element that takes into account the nonlinear behavior of steel and concrete, confinement effects and geometrical nonlinearities. Through a parametric study, different material
models for steel and concrete, widely available in commercial software programs, are evaluated and the constitutive model parameters that best approximate the behavior of CFT columns under static loading conditions are determined. This numerical model is then validated through a comparison with a number of experimental tests from the literature. Different types of loading (cyclic static and dynamic), types of structures with different slenderness of tested specimens and B/t ratio are considered. In addition, limitations of the proposed fiber element model for modelling CFT columns are emphasized.

AB  - In this paper, results of experimental investigation of bearing capacity and stability of slender and moderately slender CFT circular tubes are presented. The effects of ratio thickness/ radius of steel cross section and support conditions are investigated. Numerical simulation for the tested examples was performed in computer program ABAQUS. In this simulations, nonlinear constitutive models were used for modelling of concrete, steel and concrete/steel connection. With modified Rick's method critical buckling force for the CFT column was calculated. Verification of the obtained experimental results was performed with comparison with several world standards: EC4, ACI, AS, AISC, as well as with the results obtained in ABAQUS.
AB  - U radu su prikazani program i rezultati eksperimentalnog ispitivanja nosivosti i stabilnosti umereno vitkih i vitkih kružnih CFT stubova. Analiziran je uticaj odnosa prečnika i debljine zida čeličnog profila, kao i uticaj graničnih uslova oslanjanja na vrednost kritične sile izvijanja. Izvršena je i numerička simulacija ispitanih uzoraka primenom metode konačnih elemenata i računarskog programa ABAQUS. U modelu su zadati nelinearni konstitutivni modeli za beton jezgra i konstrukcioni čelik šupljeg profila, kao i veza ova dva elementa. Primenom modifikovane Riks-ove metode sračunata je kritična sila izvijanja CFT stuba. Verifikacija rezultata izvršena je upoređivanjem sopstvenih eksperimentalnih rezultata s važećim pravilnicima: EC4, ACI, AS, AISC, kao i s rezultatima dobijenim primenom računarskog programa ABAQUS.

AB  - This article provides information about the possibilities and technologies [2] available for the building industry in the Republic of Serbia, and concerns the trends - which expansion is expected in Europe and worldwide - the of use of renewable sources of building materials. Exploitation of sand and gravel from rivers and dry mines in many EU countries is prohibited. Excavation of clay from clay deposits and blasting the rock mass are considered as a violation of the natural environment and resulting with scars on our planet Earth.Renewable sources of construction materials are considered materials which each year can be renewed and which are the most common by-product of agricultural production.Materials obtained by recycling existing materials already used in construction, as well as by-products of industrial production are also considered sustainable materials.Renewable materials are supporting the new, worldwide trend in building industry, called "Green Building" with the aim of reducing harmful CO2 emissions.This paper will discuss renewable materials obtained as a by-product of agricultural production such as grain straw (wheat, barley, rye and oats), cane and hemp shiv obtained by mechanical breakingof hemp stems.These materials are cheap because they are by-products and they are energy efficient, which is particularly important nowadays.The construction of buildings with the above mentioned materials should be well planned to ensure the durability, fire resistance and particularly the pleasant and comfortable stay for the people.The walls made of this material must be solved, and ensured to avoid occurrence of rodents and other pests that may be carriers of dangerous and contagious diseases.

AB  - CFT columns are one of the basic structural elements in "top-down" construction method. Because of the large depth of excavation the question of stability of these columns raises. This paper presents a procedure for calculation of critical buckling force of CFT columns which are on the upper side elastically fixed in the concrete ceiling and on the bottom side elastically fixed in the drilled pile. Using computer programs ABAQUS 6.12 and LPILE, as well as appropriate constitutive models the boundary conditions on the upper and lower end of the CFT columns are determined. For a building called "Cvijetni prolaz" in Zagreb, using program created in Excel the critical buckling force of elastically fixed CFT columns is determined. The dependence of the critical buckling force decreasing with increasing depth of excavation is presented. The impact of concrete class, diameter and wall thickness of the steel section, length and diameter of the pile, the thickness of the ceiling on the critical buckling force of CFT columns is analysed. The results are shown in diagrams and tables.

AB  - This article provides information about the possibilities of design and construction floor slabs concerning three very important aspects: the capacity, safety and energy efficiency.Nowadays, in the Republic of Serbia exclusively solid concrete slabs are designed and built,which are at least 20cm thick.The justification for this solution is to obtain, in its plane, a rigid plate-diaphragm that is able to endure seismic forces on the walls, proportionally to the stiffness of those walls.At the same time this solution has many disadvantages and it is a great load that limits the length of the span. That heavy load is directly proportional to the size of the seismic forces. The20 cm thick, solid concrete slab has a large heat capacity, and specific heat c (J / kgK), which are not energy efficient,as the warm air is accumulated, conductedtowards to the walls and also retained near the ceiling, while people are near the floor.There are other solutions of design and construction floor slabs that meet demands far more than a solid concrete slab.These are the reinforced concrete site-cast waffle slab.These slabs are extremely stiff and stable, optionally in both directions and can have a reduced mass up to 50% compared with solid concrete slabs.The authors will introduce one waffle-slab solution of reinforced concrete slabs, which satisfies, in addition to above mentioned, even the energy efficiency demand. It is a solution by Stirofert-technology built with structural expanded polystyrene as a stay-in-place formwork during the phase of concrete pouring and construction. This same stay-in-place formwork is a powerful insulation on ceiling with a preventing effect against heat-accumulation and heat losses towards the walls; same time equalizing the temperature of air near the floor and ceiling.

AB  - The deformation measurements are performed for the purpose of obtaining information concerning ground movement and objects on the ground within given time intervals. For the purpose of improving conventional models of deformation analysis (CDA) it is desirable to use several different methods and also implement alternative procedures as a further improvement, such as the concept of robust geodetic networks and strain analysis, aimed at obtaining objective information about the movements. In the present paper, in addition to the CDA methods, we also analyze the robust methods in deformation detecting and the method of the strain analysis based on elasticity theory as a supplement to the conventional geometric deformation methods (CDA). The mentioned methods are applied and analysed for the case of a test example of Fruska Gora in Serbia, for which there exist geological and geophysical studies of recent tectonic movements. The measuring results for two measuring epochs concern the GNSS vectors measured by applying the fast static method within closed polygons over a ten-year interval, where only the horizontal movement component is analysed. The efficiency of the applied CDA and robust methods is measured by applying a mean success rate (MSR) by applying Monte Carlo simulations in order to investigate the efficiency of a given methods for a given control network.

AB  - Метод динамичке крутости (МДК) представља алтернативу методуконачних елемената (МКЕ) у анализи вибрација и избочавањаконструкција. Основни елемент у МДК је континуални елемент, односноњегова матрица крутости, која је формулисана на основу тачног решењадиференцијалне једначине проблема, па је самим тим избегнута потребаза дискретизацијом домена. Да би МДК могао да нађе ширу примену,потребна је одговарајућа база континуалних елемената. У оквирудисертације су по први пут формулисани континуални елементи заанализу вибрација Mindlin-ове правоугаоне плоче и сегмента кружнецилиндричне љуске по Donnell-Mushtari-евој и Flügge-овој теорији. Зарешење проблема слободних вибрација коришћен је Gorman-ов методсуперпозиције, док је динамика матрица крутости формулисана помоћуметода пројекције. Такође, на основу решења у затвореном обликуформулисани су следећи континуални елементи, односно одговарајућематрице крутости, за анализу вибрација и избочавања: Maurice Lévy-евеплоче по Mindlin-овој теорији, кружне цилиндричне љуске и сегментакружне цилиндричне љуске са специјалним граничним условима поDonnell-Mushtari-евој и Flügge-овој теорији. Изведене матрице крутости суимплементиране у за ту сврху написани Matlab програм за анализувибрација и избочавања система плоча и љуски. Резултати многобројнихнумеричких примера су упоређени са доступним резултатима излитературе, као и резултатима МКЕ, чиме је извршена верификација ураду формулисаних континуалних елемената.
AB  - Dynamic stiffness method (DSM) is an alternative to the Finite element method(FEM) in the vibration and buckling analysis. The essential element in the DSMis a continuous element and the corresponding stiffness matrix. The stiffnessmatrix is formulated based on the exact solution of the governing equations.Consequently, the discretization of the domain is minimized. For a widerapplication of the DSM, a suitable base of the continuous elements is necessary.Within this thesis, the continuous elements and the corresponding dynamicstiffness matrices for vibration analysis of the Mindlin plate and segment ofcircular cylindrical shells based on the Donnell-Mushtari and Flügge theory areformulated for the first time. Gorman's method of superposition has been used forsolution of the free vibrations problem, while the dynamic stiffness matrix isformulated by using the Projection method. In addition, based on the closed-formsolutions of the of free vibration and buckling problem, the followingcontinuous elements are formulated: Maurice Lévy plate element based on theMindlin theory, circular cylindrical shell and segmented circular cylindricalshell with special boundary conditions element based on the Donnell-Mushtariand Flügge theory. The developed stiffness matrices are implemented in theMatlab program for the vibration and buckling analysis of plates and shellsassemblies. The results of numerous numerical examples are compared with theavailable results in the literature, as well as with the results obtained using theFEM , and, in such way, the formulated continuous elements are verified.

AB  - This paper presents a nonlinear 3d concentrated plasticity beam column element for the analysis of RCFT columns. The element consists of a linear elastic component with a plastic hinge at each end whose inelastic response is described by extending the concept of generalized plasticity to stress resultants. With independent yield and limit surfaces it is possible to describe the gradual yielding of composite sections and their post-yield hardening behavior. The geometric nonlinearity under large displacements is accounted for with the corotational formulation. The paper discusses the calibration of the model parameters and assesses the accuracy of the model through correlation studies.

Improvement of energy efficiency of buildings in urban areas

AB  - Although there are a large number of buildings with high energy consumption in Serbia, there is a possibility to reduce it by investing in renovation of such buildings. Windows and doors, which are part of thermal envelope of building, play a very important role in the overall energy efficiency of the building. In this paper, some aspects of reducing energy consumption of buildings in urban area are presented through renovation project and experimental measurements. The results of increased energy efficiency of one public building, obtained by changing doors and windows only, are given. Experimental measurements by thermovision camera in several residential buildings are shown in this paper. These measurements indicate importance of installing adequate windows as part of thermal envelope of buildings. In addition, corresponding data, from overall state of energy efficiency of buildings in Serbia, is presented.
