Abstract
One of the very important decisions in planning a hydropower plant is to determine ecologically guarantied discharge that should be released from reservoir or downstream of the intake structures of derivation systems. On the basis of different methods, hydrological analyses of low flows and morphological-ecological analyses, a new methodology of determining ecologically guarantied discharge from reservoirs in this part of Europe is defined. Advantages of this methodology are: a) it is based on average monthly low flows, so it is easy to use; b) it is adjusted to instream biocenoses life activity (discharge defers in summer and winter seasons of the year); c) in low flow periods discharge is bigger than it would be in natural conditions, so it is the most effective protection of water environment.
