This paper compares the simplified theory of thin-walled box beams with deformable cross section given by Sedlacek with the more accurate approach proposed by Kollbrunner and Hajdin. Single-cell, simply supported box girders with and without side cantilevers properties concentrated and uniform loading are analysed. Different geometric properties like wall thickness, depth-to-width ratio and depth-to-span ratio are taken into consideration. The parametric study given at the end of the paper shows the influence of warping shear deformation and separate treatment of torsional and distortional action on the accuracy of the analysis.
