AB  - This paper deals with problems of creating flood hazard maps, considering methodology and problems of its implementation in practice. A case study, pertaining to production of flood hazard maps for municipality Čačak in Serbia is used as an illustrative example of how to solve various problems facing such projects.
AB  - U ovom radu se razmatra problematika izrade karata ugroženosti od poplava, sa osvrtom na metodološka načela i konkretne probleme primene tih načela u praksi. Kao ilustrativan primer korišćena je izrada karata ugroženosti od poplava na području opštine Čačak. Izneta su iskustva u vezi sa rešavanjem niza problema koji su se javili u toku realizacije ovog projekta.

Environmental impact assessment of construction of the Ada bridge

AB  - Construction of the new cable stayed bridge on the Sava River in Belgrade - the 'Ada Bridge', required extensive foundation works at the entrance of the Ada Bay, with two environmentally unfavourable consequences -increased siltation of the Bay entrance, and dislodgement of protected bird species (the pygmy cormorant). This paper deals with actions undertaken in order to resolve these unfavourable environmental impacts. Numerical 2D flow simulations were done in order to design a reconstructed Bay entrance with reduced siltation, and to shape the existing sand bars to become, after backfilling and planting, a renewed habitat for the protected bird species.
AB  - Izgradnja Mosta na Adi iziskivala je obimne radove na ulazu u Čukarički zaliv, sa dva nepovoljna uticaja po životnu sredinu - povećano zasipanje ulaza u Zaliv i proterivanje zaštićene ptičje vrste - 'malog vranca', sa njegovog staništa na špicu Ade. Ovaj članak opisuje aktivnosti na otklanjanju ovih nepoželjnih uticaja. Na osnovu proračuna kapaciteta unošenja i istaložavanja rečnog nanosa na ulazu u Zaliv, projektovano je takvo uređenje obala koje istovremeno zadovoljava određene uslove u pogledu režima strujanja vode i nanosa, ornitološke uslove obnove staništa, kao i estetske uslove regulacije obale oko pilona mosta.

AB  - This paper deals with the analysis of the flow field in the vicinity of an intake structure. It is shown that flow and psamological characteristics can be determined successfully by 2D and 3D numerical models. Determining the influence of measures for reducing sediment deposition inside the structure was considered as most important. One such measure, a bar located upstream of the intake mouth, proved to be the most difficult task for 2D model. For illustration, results are presented related to the water supply intake 'Makiš' on the Sava River.
AB  - Rad govori o mogućnostima analize strujnog polja u okolini ulaznih građevina pomoću modela ravanskog i prostornog tečenja. Pokazano je da se numeričkim modelima mogu efikasno odrediti hidrauličke i psamološke karakteristike rečnog toka. Posebna pažnja posvećena je određivanju uticaja praga uzvodno od ulaza, koji služi kao mera za smanjenje uvlačenja nanosa. Na primeru vodozahvata 'Makiš' na reci Savi, ilustrovano je uspešno rešavanje problema određivanja posledica izazvanih povećanjem njegovog kapaciteta.

It is shown that flow and psamological characteristics can be determined successfully by 2D and 3D numerical models. Determining the influence of measures for reducing sediment deposition inside the structure was considered as most important. One such measure, a bar located
upstream of the intake mouth, proved to be the most difficult task for 2D model. For illustration, results are presented related to the water supply intake "Makiš" on the Sava River.",

AB  - This paper is inspired by a stone sill designed in the channel of the Velika Morava river (near Markovački bridge, Serbia), in order to ensure water supply of the Thermal Power Plant 'Morava' during low flows, and to terminate erosion of the river bed, thus accelerating its stabilization. The impact of extremely high absolute roughness of the sill is particularly strong during low discharges and small water depths, and is manifested by intensive turbulence and air entrainment. Under such flow conditions, the Manning equation for energy loss calculation is not valid. The method by Hartung and Scheuerlein, applied in this case, considers the water-air mixture, and accordingly offers an iterative procedure for estimation of the roughness coefficient value. The Morava river stone sill case study shows that the water surface longitudinal profiles, calculated by the Manning equation, and by the Hartung and Scheuerlein method, differ significantly. Therefore, small depth flows over very rough surfaces are not be calculated in a routine way, but have to be considered as a separate local phenomena.
AB  - Ovaj rad je proizašao iz projekta kamenog praga u koritu Velike Morave kod Markovačkog mosta. Svrha praga je da osigura vodosnabdevanje TE 'Morava' u periodu malih voda, zaustavi opštu eroziju korita i time ubrza njegovu stabilizaciju. Uticaj izrazito velike apsolutne rapavosti prelivne konture praga naročito dolazi do izražaja u periodu malih voda - pri malim dubinama prelivnog toka, a ogleda se u intenzivnoj turbulenciji i uvlačenju vazduha. U takvim uslovima, ne važi Maningova jednačina za linijske gubitke energije. Metoda Hartunga i Šerlajna, koja je primenjena u ovom radu, razmatra mešavinu vode i vazduha i shodno tome, omogućava procenu odgovarajuće vrednosti koeficijenta trenja. Primer praga na Moravi pokazuje da se linije nivoa, sračunate pomoću Maningove jednačine i po metodi Hartunga i Šerlajna, značajno razlikuju. To znači da se tanki prelivni tokovi na podlozi velike rapavosti ne smeju računati šablonski, već se moraju hidraulički analizirati posebno, kao lokalni fenomeni.

This approach assumes flow simplification and requires model calibration in order to reproduce flow characteristics in a realistic way. The calibration and input data are to some extent inherently erroneous. To check the influence of data errors on the model results, it is necessary to perform some additional analysis. This paper deals with the impact of input data uncertainty on model results, considering only compiled models (those that cannot be conceptually changed, or modified on the source code level). Three forms of data uncertainty representation are presented: intervals, fuzzy sets and statistical distribution.
AB  - Tečenje u otvorenim tokovima se često modelira linijskim (1D) modelom. Takav pristup problematici podrazumeva da se složena strujna slika kod tečenja u otvorenim tokovima pojednostavljuje, a kalibracijom parametara modela se postiže da model verno simulira prirodni proces. I u fazi kalibracije, kao i kasnije u fazi korišćenja modela, moguće je da raspoloživi podaci o fenomenu u sebi nose određenu grešku. Da bi se proverio uticaj greške na rezultate proračuna, neophodno je sprovesti dodatne analize. U radu se prikazuje analiza neodređenosti rezultata usled neodređenih ulaznih vrednosti i parametara modela. U ovom radu se razmatraju zatvoreni numerički modeli (kojima se ne može menjati koncept ni programski kod) i na način kako se predstavljaju neodređene veličine (u obliku intervala, rasplinutog skupa i statističke raspodele).

AB  - The paper considers the methodology for the mapping flood zones, flood damages and flood risk. The emphasis is on the development of synthetic flood damage functions, used for the determination of the expected annual damages, as the principal parameters for quantification of the flood risk. The methodology is illustrated by two practical examples.

Težište je na načinu određivanja sintetičkih funkcija potencijalne štete, koje se korite za definisanje očekivane godišnje štete, kao glavnog parametra za kvantifikovanje rizika od poplava. AB  - This article deals with deterministic and stochastic approaches to assess the expected annual flood damages. Each approach is illustrated by a case study pertaining to floods at different sections of the Tamnava river in Serbia. The objective was to use examples from engineering practice in order to demonstrate how various uncertainties may affect the expected annual damage, and consequently, how to determine the economically optimal degree of flood protection, expressed by the designed height of the levees.
AB  - U ovom članku se opisuju deterministički i stohastički pristupi u određivanju očekivane godišnje štete od poplava. Njihova primena se ilustruje proračunima za jednu deonicu reke Tamnave. Namera je da se konkretnim primerom iz prakse ispita u kojoj meri neizvesnost ulaznih podataka utiče na očekivanu godišnju štetu, a preko nje, na ekonomski optimalni stepen zaštite, izražen preko projektne visine odbrambenih nasipa.

AB  - Bays suffer from siltation, which is a natural process that cannot be avoided. The main cause of this process is mixing of the river-water containing suspended sediment and the river-bay water. High costs of maintenance - dredging and disposal of contaminated sludge can be reduced. By reducing the amount of river-water and bay-water mixing, siltation can be significantly scaled down, and thus costs of maintenance. This paper deals with the problem of defining an optimal shape of bay entrance using 2D and 3D numerical model. For illustration, results pertaining to the design of entrance of Čukarica Bay are presented.
AB  - Najveći problem zaliva je zasipanje - prirodan proces koji se ne može izbeći Visoki troškovi održavanja zaliva (bagerovanja mulja i čišćenja obala) nameću potrebu primene mera za smanjenje uvlačenja nanosa u zaliv. Budući da je uzrok zasipanja mešanje rečne vode opterećene nanosom i vode zaliva smanjenjem količine vode koja dospeva u zaliv može se smanjiti zasipanje. Ovaj problem se može rešiti određivanjem najpovoljnijeg oblika ulaza u zaliv. U ovom radu je prikazano oblikovanje ulaza pomoću modela ravanskog i prostornog tečenja. Kao primer, prikazani su rezultati koji se odnose na oblikovanje ulaza u Čukarički zaliv.

AB  - Najveći problem zaliva je zasipanje - prirodan proces koji se ne može izbeći. Visoki troškovi održavanja zaliva (bagerovanja mulja i čišćenja obala) nameću potrebu primene mera za smanjenje uvlačenja nanosa u zaliv. Budući da je uzrok zasipanja mešanje rečne vode opterećene nanosom i vode zaliva, smanjenjem količine vode koja dospeva u zaliv može se smanjiti zasipanje. Ovaj problem se može rešiti određivanjem najpovoljnijeg oblika ulaza u zaliv. U ovom radu je prikazano oblikovanje ulaza pomoću modela ravanskog i prostornog tečenja. Kao
primer, prikazani su rezultati koji se odnose na oblikovanje ulaza u Čukarički zaliv.
AB  - Bays suffer from siltation, which is a natural process that cannot be avoided. The main cause of this process is mixing of the river-water containing suspended sediment and the river-bay water. High costs of maintenance - dredging and disposal of contaminated sludge can be reduced. By
reducing the amount of river-water and bay-water mixing, Siltation can be significantly scaled down, and thus costs of maintenance. This paper deals with the problem of defining an optimal shape of bay entrance using 2D and 3D numerical model. For illustration, results pertaining to the design of entrance of Čukarica Bay are presented.

AB  - Contamination of river waters in terms of scale, intensity, and duration cause such severe problems that application of conventional engineering methods for environmental remediation projects is no longer adequate, and much more thorough hydraulic analysis, based on Computational Hydraulics, is required. Possibilities of such an approach are illustrated by a case study remediation of the Cukarica Bay on the Sava River in Belgrade. Measures, such as flushing of the Bay, have been studied by numerical simulations, using two-dimensional finite-element model. By studying physical processes in detail, it was possible to draw many useful conclusions, and to make appropriate recommendations to investors and working operative.
AB  - Zagađenje voda stvara tako ozbiljne probleme da primena standardnih inženjerskih metoda u projektima zaštite životne sredine više nije opravdana. Ovakvi projekti zahtevaju primenu novih alata i metoda baziranih na numeričkim modelima. U ovom radu je prikazan rezultat simulacije kvaliteta vode na primeru Čukaričkog zaliva na reci Savi u Beogradu. Primena mera čiji je cilj poboljšanje kvaliteta vode, kao što je ispiranje zaliva, ispitana je pomoću modela ravanskog tečenja baziranog na metodi konačnih elemenata. Sagledavanjem uticaja predloženih mera moguće je dati odgovarajuće preporuke investitorima i izvođačima radova.

AB  - This paper deals with prediction of hydraulic consequences of concentrated release of dredged sediments into the river using a two-dimensional numerical model. It is shown that flow, concentration, and siltation fields can be efficiently simulated by the numerical model. A special concern is given to the problem of the numerical model calibration. For illustration, results pertaining to the concentrated release of sediment dredged from the Čukarica Bay into the Sava River, are presented.
AB  - Ovaj rad govori o mogućnostima predviđanja hidrauličkih posledica koncentrisanog ispuštanja izbagerovanog materijala u maticu reke pomoću numeričkog modela ravanskog tečenja. Pokazuje se da se numeričkim simulacijama može efikasno reprodukovati strujno polje, raspored koncentracije i raspored zasipanja u rečnom koritu. Posebno je razmotren problem kalibracije modela. AB  - A river confluence is known for the strong three-dimensional flow effects. The confluence hydrodynamics is significantly influenced by the river bed morphology. Two morphological features are typical for river confluences: a discordance of the two river bed elevations at the entrance to the confluence and presence of a scour hole in the post-confluence channel. The objective of this paper is to examine the influence of these morphological features on the flow structure by using a three-dimensional numerical model. The confluence of the Sava and Danube Rivers (in the city of Belgrade) offers excellent possibilities for this investigation, as both bed elevation discordance and scour hole are present. The results of numerical simulations for this case are compared to the results obtained for the three hypothetical bed configurations of the same confluence: a) concordant bed elevations and the scour hole, b) concordant bed elevations and no scour hole, and c) discordant bed elevations and no scour hole. An attempt is made to generalise the results of numerical simulations. Results are discussed in terms of the secondary flow pattern and the distribution of the turbulent kinetic energy.

Numerical simulation of ash-spills induced by dike failure on ash tailings impoundments - a case study

AB  - A model developed for simulation of both discontinuous clear-water flows and hyper-concentrated discontinuous flows is validated on a real dike failure event, which happened on an ash-tailings impoundment on site. Numerical model is based on the MacCormack finite-difference scheme and involves constitutive equation in a form of the general yield-power law (Herschel-Bulkley's rheological model). The influence of the solid phase volumetric concentration on the propagation characteristics of the dike-break wave is analysed. Rheological properties of ash-water mixtures are determined in the laboratory using a tube viscometer. Definition of the corresponding constitutive equations is based on the test results. In that respect, the rheological properties of ash may be described by the Bingham model.

Rheological properties of ash-water mixtures are determined in the laboratory using a tube viscometer. Definition of the corresponding constitutive equations is based on the test results. In that respect, the rheological properties of ash may be described by the Bingham model.",

The results of a case study, used for model calibration, are presented.

U ovom radu se govori o specifičnostima poplavnih talasa koji nastaju kao posledica delimičnog rušenja brana-nasipa na pepelištima, kao i problemima matematičkog modeliranja te pojave. AB  - U ovom radu se govori o mogućnostima primene ravanskih računskih modela u hidrotehničkoj 
praksi. Prikazan je jedan od takvih modela, baziran na jednačinama koje su dobijene osrednjavanjem po dubini toka, a koje se regavaju pomoću eksplicitne MacCormack-ove sheme konačnih razlika. Ova shema razdvojenih operatora je zadnjih godina u svetu veoma aktuelna, jer omogućava istovremeno obuhvatanje različitih režima tečenja i dobru reprodukciju talasa sa 
strmim čelom. Mogućnost korišćenja ovog modela u praksi je ilustrovana sa nekoliko primera koji obuhvataju probleme rušenja brane, tečenja kroz suženje i tečenja u blizini napera.
AB  - The possibilities of application of depth-averaged two dimensional numerical models in hydraulic engineering are discussed in this paper. One of such models, based on the explicit time-splitting MacCormack finite-difference scheme, has been briefly described. In the last few years, this particular scheme has become very popular in open-channel hydraulics due to its good shock capturing capabilities and the fact that different flow regimes, which might simultaneously occur in different parts of the channel can be treated in the same time. Several practical examples are used for illustration, including dam-break flow, flow through constriction and flow in the vicinity of groynes.
