AB - At the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Belgrade, in the Descriptive geometry (DG) course,
non-obligatory workshops named “facultative task” are held for the three generations of freshman
students with the aim to give students the opportunity to get higher final grade on the exam. The
content of this workshop was a creative task, performed by a group of three students, offering free
choice of a topic, i.e. the geometric structure associated with some real or imagery
architectural/art-work object.
After the workshops a questionnaire (composed by the professors at the course) is given to the
students, in order to get their response on teaching/learning materials for the DG course and the
workshop. During the workshop students performed one of the common tests for testing spatial
abilities, named “paper folding".
Based on the results of the questionnairethe investigation of the linkages between:students’
final achievements and spatial abilities, as well as students’ expectations of their performance on
the exam, and how the students’ capacity to correctly estimate their grades were associated with
expected and final grades, is provided. The goal was to give an evidence that a creative work,
performed by a small group of students and self-assessment of their performances are a good way
of helping students to maintain motivation and to accomplish their achievement.
The final conclusion is addressed to the benefits of additional workshops employment in the
course, which confirmhigherfinal scores-grades, achievement of creative results (facultative tasks)
and confirmation of DG knowledge adaption.

AB - At the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Belgrade, beside the obligatory forms of lectures and exercises, freshmen students have the opportunity to widen their practical experience in application of geometric knowledge, gained at Descriptive Geometry course, through non obligatory workshop. It was organized at the Faculty classrooms during two days, such that a group of students (three students) works on a creative geometry task, within given conditions. Starting from free choice of an existing or imagery type of architectural structure (a whole building or its roofing structure) students should provide its geometric interpretation of orthogonal projections on a 3D physical model of coordinate system -1; 3D model in Auto-CAD software (the alternative is card board model) - 2; presentation of a structure in 3D augmented reality application “Augment” – 3; visual appearance of a structure in architecture/design (a photo image) -4; poster summary of the sub-tasks – 5. The satisfactory completion of a task would enable a student to get higher grade on the final exam at Descriptive geometry course.
Based on the results of additional questionnaire administered to the participants at the end of the workshop, besides good achievement, creativity, self-confidence and high-quality teamwork significantly contribute to overall satisfaction of students.

AB - The use of proportions is one of the oldest theoretical issues in architecture. However, sometimes geometry, with its specific shapes and constraints
between them, can fully describe the logic of architectural design. This paper
presents geometric proportional schemas of the Serbian medieval church of the
monastery Ljubostinja (built around 1387), the representative of so-called Morava
architectural style.
The research is partly based on Ivo Štambuk’s proportional canon, which he applied on several churches, in wider Mediterranean region during prolonged period of time (4th to 15th c.). Štambuk’s proportional canon is based on two circles and one equilateral triangle constrained to each other and set relative to characteristic points of the church plan and cross-section, above all the location of the altar and the center of the church dome. By adding principles of triangulation and dynamic rectangles, this paper demonstrates more precise proportional model of the church plan and the cross-section through the dome. Results show that the proportions of the Ljubostinja’s church can be interpreted by dynamic rectangles (their diagonals are square roots of full numbers) with ratios 1:√2, 1:√3, 1:√5 and, in addition, by specific scheme of equilateral triangles which are constrained to the characteristic points of the church space: center point of the apse and the dome.

The final conclusion is addressed to the benefits of additional workshops employment in the course, which confirmhigherfinal scores-grades, achievement of creative results (facultative tasks) and confirmation of DG knowledge adaption.

abstract = "At the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Belgrade, in the Descriptive geometry (DG) course, non-obligatory workshops named “facultative task” are held for the three generations of freshman students with the aim to give students the opportunity to get higher final grade on the exam. The content of this workshop was a creative task, performed by a group of three students, offering free choice of a topic, i.e. the geometric structure associated with some real or imagery architectural/art-work object.
After the workshops a questionnaire (composed by the professors at the course) is given to the students, in order to get their response on teaching/learning materials for the DG course and the workshop. During the workshop students performed one of the common tests for testing spatial abilities, named “paper folding".
Based on the results of the questionnairethe investigation of the linkages between:students’ final achievements and spatial abilities, as well as students’ expectations of their performance on the exam, and how the students’ capacity to correctly estimate their grades were associated with expected and final grades, is provided.

AB - Touchscreen devices have dramatically increased the accessibility and usage of technology, causing escalating usage, especially by very young children. Although the effects of screen time have been shown to produce serious (negatively effects on executive functioning, attention problems, school difficulties, sleep and eating disorders, and obesity) and even life-threatening consequences (due to radiation emission), technology can be beneficial if it is carefully used. Child-centered technology is especially designed to be as entertaining and captivating as possible. In order to examine how touchscreen devices, influence the acquisition of some important spatial concepts and provide exciting opportunities for learning new abilities, an experimental research was conducted aimed to determine whether the type of device used (computers or tablets) in the
natural kindergarten environment influences young children performances. For the purpose of this work, geometrical symbols on traffic signs were used to test spatial relationships – left/right, and longer/shorter relations. The test was carried out on a sample of 30 pre-school children. The results show significant differences between the two-testing media for identifying the longer vs. shorter relationships in favor of Tablet PC. Based on the results obtained, it can be concluded that the kinesthetic characteristics of tablets, the novelty factor and the opportunity to learn through playing, provide a positive approach to the early childhood education. Besides, the interactive environment created in a kindergarten by using tablets contributes to introduce new teaching methods which are expected to amplify the pedagogical capacity, changing the way of
spatial concepts acquisition, as well as, children traffic education take place within.

AB - The adult ergonomic design principles usually do not apply to children, because their needs, skills, and expectations differ. The purpose of this study is to explore preschoolers' and primary schoolers' color perception and memorization in the context of spatial orientation, in order to explore possibilities of implementation of colors in the design of the school interior. Our experiment involved 80 participants. This study mainly recruited children aged 5-9 years as research participants. After the investigation, we found that: (1) Children showed the highest accuracy in memorizing the yellow object (87.5 %), while they had demonstrated the lowest percentage of correct answers when memorizing the blue object (73.8 %); (2) Boys showed a higher accuracy in the perception of colored objects, compared to girls, for all four used colors; (3) Older children (third grade) showed better accuracy in memorizing the targeted properties of used test object of different colors (for all used colors) than younger children. These findings are considered in the context of the design of school equipment and surrounding.

AB - This paper considers the relationship between Walkability and Usability in order to understand the perceptions of residents’ accessibility to community facilities provided after the street reconstruction. To address this goal the assessment framework that includes two corresponding measurement tools has been proposed. The experimental results show that the certain level of walkability has been achieved by the street reconstruction. However, the relationship of usability score with some of the walkability dimensions shows that land mix accessibility is not at the satisfactory level indicating the necessity for the City-logistics intervention within the examined City area, in terms of the street facilities service efficiency transformation to enhance overall sustainability.

Built in the so-called Raška architectural style, characterized by overlapping features of Romanesque and Byzantine traditions, two monuments—the church of the Mother of God in Studenica monastery complex and the church of Holy Dormition in Žiča monastery complex, are exquisite sacred structures and cultural monuments of exceptional importance. They are also remarkable due to geometric-proportional regularities of their design. This paper highlights the importance of geometric concept in relation to proportional analysis of these two structures. Here presented study is conducted by two means: first one—by investigating geometric scheme with equilateral triangles, incorporated into the layout and cross section patterns of each church structure; the second one—by classical proportioning that includes proportional roots, golden section and numeric ratios.

AB - Excessive speed and poor drivers' perception are the causes of a large number of traffic accidents. Analysis of the influence of geometry in drivers' behavior has been widely performed by different researchers. One way to improve road safety is to provide adequate visibility in order to help drivers adopt adequate behaviors. When the budget is not sufficient for expensive traffic solutions, innovative but simple solutions can be implemented. In this study, the experiment was performed to explore how drivers' perception and behavior are influenced by two virtual 3D shapes' projections - a 3D alternative crosswalk pattern and speed bumps consisted of triangular prisms. The results show statistically significant differences between drivers' willingness to reduce vehicle speed as a response to the two types of road markings: the first one with the square shape base (rectangular prism) and the second one with triangular shape base (triangular prism).

The results show significant differences between the two-testing media for identifying the longer vs. shorter relationships in favor of Tablet
PC. Based on the results obtained, it can be concluded that the kinesthetic characteristics of tablets, the novelty factor and the opportunity to learn through playing, provide a positive approach to the early childhood education. Besides, the interactive environment created in a kindergarten by using tablets contributes to introduce new teaching methods which are expected to amplify the pedagogical capacity, changing the way of spatial concepts acquisition, as well as, children traffic education take place within.

AB - According to World Health Organization (WHO) estimates, 186,300 children die annually from road traffic crashes globally, equivalent to over 500 child deaths daily. Road traffic injuries are among the top four global causes of death in children between the ages of 5 and 14 years. Among these deaths, children as pedestrians accounted for about 38%. To create effective intervention programs, the research on pedestrian safety risks associated with age is needed. For these reasons, an experiment was conducted to explore the impact of using tablet PC devices for learning purposes in the field of traffic safety. The results indicate that children show better performances when working with tablet PC, than in simulated traffic situations. Thus, it is important to take these findings into account when aiming to train children for road safety.

abstract = "According to World Health Organization (WHO) estimates, 186,300 children die annually from road traffic crashes globally, equivalent to over 500 child deaths daily. Thus, it is important to take these findings into account when aiming to train children for road safety.",

AB - The development of new technologies brings new trends for children to spend more time using different applications on (tablet) computers and mobile phones. Due to insufficient maturity, children who start independently to participate in traffic, as well as due to the lack of life and traffic experience, in spite of the daily exposure to the risks and challenges of participating in traffic, this category of participants belongs to the group of the most vulnerable. Taking into account the above facts, an experimental research was conducted on how children behave in traffic on the polygon and how they deal with the virtual environment on the tablet computer through the same situations. The experiment was carried out on the polygon and on the tablet computer. The basic rules of safe behavior in the traffic of pre-school children were examined. The results of experimental research show that children on the computer know exactly how to respond to the given situation, which indicates that children theoretically know that in the traffic situations they behave safely. However, the same tasks cannot be successfully solved by the children on the polygon. This paper has presented the most important results obtained in the research and in which direction the application of new technologies can influence the safety of children in traffic.

AB - New generations of student population have a constant need and relation to advanced technologies in every day living and communication. This means that contemporary graphic softvare solutions with 3D virtuel environment become a necessity, specially in modern education of young engineers in several technical disciplines, such as architecture, civil engineering, traffic and transportation engineering, mechanical engineering, etc. The authors of this research started from the presumption that education which is sublimation of a game and research, uses application of current technologies and devices and brings real and „visible“ rezult recognizable in engineering practice, paralelly with benefits in final students’ course score, is the one which motivates students to make additional efforts in learning. An novel approach in contemporary Descriptive Geometry education, at the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Belgrade, which uses creative workshop named „ Facultative task“ is here presented. Students’ benefit from this task was to enhance his/her final course grade.
The task which contains analysis, creation and graphic presentation of geometric structure, inspired by a contemporary building (worlds’ cultural heritage object with public, industrial or cultural function) was organized as the team work (three students were joined in a group). The focus was on characteristic geometric entities (roof, facade, wall, etc.) as dominants in architectural form. The methodology of the workshop is based on several „steps“: geometric analysis of contemporary building-1; composition of a new structure-2; 2D classical hand drawings - orthogonal projections on the three coordinate planes (made of a cardboard)-3; 3D modeling of a structure in 3D computer environment (Auto CAD software)-4; mobile phone augmented reality application usage-5; poster presentation-6.
Specifically for the purposes of the research the questionary was created for students’ response to the new method of teaching/learning, where they assesed the workshop, specified their affinity for the various phases of the work, gave comments and suggestions.

AB - For children growing up today, digital media are part of everyday life, and children accept technology as a completely natural and inevitable means. The old notion that children must reach the level of specific operations to get ready to use a computer is outdated. Growing up of Neomillennial generations require completely amended educational approaches, as well as, the development of new skills and attitudes in almost all areas. The aforementioned initiated an experiment conducted with aim to test the potential differences in performance between traditional (paper form) and contemporary (using a tablet PC) mode of testing. The nonverbal abilities tests related to the recognition of 2D and 3D geometric shapes were used in the study. The test material was arranged by the authors for the purposes of this research. Two- or three dimensional geometric shapes were presented either on the screen or in paper form. In the 2D presentation mode the items were polygons like circles, triangles, squares, etc., while in the 3D test objects which contained the elements of prisms, cylinders or cones were presented. The task was to recognize the particular shape among the three offered and to select the correct answer. The participants were 120 children aged from 7 to 8 years. The results show that there are no statistically significant differences in achievement between the paper and tablet PC mode of testing for 2D geometrical shapes. However, there are significant differences for 3D geometrical shapes, in favor of using tablet PC. Based on the contact with children during the testing for recognition of 3D geometric shapes, the impression is gained that they were very engaged, fascinated and naturally interested in interacting with the touch screens. Accordingly, policy makers should consider introducing new technologies as to facilitate the adoption of (geometrical) concepts, as well as in order to achieve childrens' more efficient mastering of courses contents.

AB - Excessive speed and poor driver perception are the causes of a large number of traffic accident. Analysis of the influence of geometry in driver behavior has been widely performed by different researchers. One way to improve road safety is to provide adequate visibility in order to help drivers adopt adequate behaviors. When budget and financial situation do not allow the implementation of expensive traffic solutions, some of them can be replaced by innovative, but simple solutions. In this study, the experiment was performed to explore how driver perception and behavior are influenced by two virtual 3D shapes projections - 3D alternative crosswalk pattern and speed bumps consisted from triangular prisms. The results show statistically significant differences between willingness to reduce vehicle speed as a response to the road marking using the square (rectangular prism) as the basis compared to one that has been used triangle (triangular prism).

AB - Children represent a vulnerable population from the standpoint of traffic safety. A modern traffic poses complex and high requirements to all its participants, and among them, particularly to young children. Children have a higher risk of pedestrian injuries. Children are experiencing experience traffic differently from adults. How do children view the world? What helps them to link with their environment? How do children imagine traffic signs? To address these questions, this study examines how fast the children (between 6 and 10 years of age) react to traffic signs mounted at different heights. The analysis of the results indicated that there were differences in mean reaction time for traffic signs of different heights. Children best perceive a traffic sign when it is mounted at 1.9 m. The research highlights the importance of ergonomic principles in choosing the appropriate height of traffic signs for children.

abstract = "Children represent a vulnerable population from the standpoint of traffic safety. The research highlights the importance of ergonomic principles in choosing the appropriate height of traffic signs for children.",

AB - Expanding technology, augmented reality (AR), where the customer/user can obtain various information about 3D digital model of an object in real time virtual presentation, has a wide range of applications. One of the fields of interest is cultural heritage preservation. Combined with 3D modeling, mostly based on 3D laser scanning data, AR enables a common user to visualize the object, i.e. cultural heritage monument in its' real surroundings. This is especially important in the cases when the monument is in ruined or devastated state. If reconstructed 3D model would give the clear visual impression about the monument and its historical value. This topic is especially interesting for engineering students, whose further professional activities would be involved in the tasks of cultural heritage protection. Augmented reality applications, among other, are available through android phones, i-phones and tablets by 3D model upload and its real time presentation. AR applications aimed for architectural objects require certain manipulation skills regarding object's positioning on the mobile device's screen, as well as, geometry knowledge for obtaining correctness. In this research, a testing was performed regarding spatial abilities of the engineering students, which had a task to incorporate the 3D model of the cultural heritage monument into several variants of 2D and 3D scene, as well as decomposition and recognition of elements of the structure. 3D digital Auto CAD model (geometric model) of reconstructed one nave church in Serbia, in monastery complex Kastaljan, on the mountain Kosmaj, was used for the testing purposes.

AB - Streetscapes are important public resources, and by their very nature, are essential parts of the open space of urban areas. The improvement of urban streetscapes aims to achieve an important objective - to become complete systems that blend all components into a safe, functional, attractive, and cohesive place. Universal design principles are completely the same in the case of new construction, as well as, for the reconstruction of existing roads, to ensure safe and easy access, enhancing the social function of streets as public spaces. The transition toward a more sustainable landuse planning, influences all aspects of street design, including the general layout of streets, activities taking place along the street, the volumes of pedestrian and bicycle activity, transit usage, and traffic to be accommodated, also emphasizing protection of vulnerable road users, as well as, transport sensitive groups through physically enforcing speed limits by means of traffic calming and other measures. The fundamental issues that must be addressed in the redesign of a street are allocating its space in a way which accommodates all modes of transport, provides a genuine choice of movement, as well as supports economic development. The way to make a street more complete or inclusive will depend on the local context: how big the street is, how much vehicle traffic it carries, what the shapes and uses of the buildings around it are, what connections it makes with other streets, and so on. Balancing street spaces is both a design and management problem, because it can be achieved by making physical changes to a street and by changing regulations, which control street functions. With limited funding streams, complex approval and regulatory processes, and lengthy construction timetables, delivering such results presents a challenging task. To achieve a context-driven urban street (re)design process, a number of parameters must be taken into consideration. It is of utmost importance to evaluate how pedestrians and vehicles use a street, where and when problems arise, and to define more precisely sets of user needs, so as to identify ways in which they might be met through providing different street design elements. The current study assessed the safety, social and emotional impact of street design after reconstruction. The results of The Road Safety Inspection and users' evaluation of their experience and emotional responses to the new street environment compared with the previous, more traditional design, are presented.

i ruralne sredine.
pristupa testiranja i edukacije dece (tradicionalnog i savremenog).
