AB - Wastewater treatment is a process that reduces pollution to those quantities and concentrations at which purified wastewater is no longer a threat to human and animal health and safety and does not cause unwanted changes in the environment. Municipal wastewater is classified as biodegradable water. Special importance should be given to wastewater with a high content of organic matter (COD), phosphorus (P) and nitrogen (N). MBBR technology, developed on the basis of the conventional activated sludge process and the bio filter process, does not take up much space and does not have problems with activated sludge, as in the case of conventional biological reactors, and has shown good results for the removal of organic matter, phosphorus and nitrogen. The aim of this paper is to optimize the wastewater treatment process in the municipality of Dojran, North Macedonia. Three alternative solutions for improving the capacity for wastewater treatment in the municipality of Dojran were analyzed. The shortlist of variants was made on the basis of several criteria, including: analysis of the system in the tourist season and beyond, assessment of the condition and efficiency of the existing wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) in combination with a new treatment plant, treatment efficiency when using different wastewater treatment technologies, the size of the site needed to accommodate the capacity, as well as the financial parameters for the proposed system. The selection of the most favorable solution for the improvement of the wastewater treatment system was made using the AHP (analytic hierarchy process) method. In order to select the optimal solution, a detailed analysis was conducted, considering several decision-making criteria, namely the initial investment, operating costs and management complexity. Based on the obtained results, Variant 3 was recommended, that is, the construction of a completely new station with MBBR technology, with a capacity for 6000 equivalent inhabitants.

AB - The idea of Daylight Saving Time (DST) was introduced before electrification era in order to prolong diurnal use of daylight during summer. DST has been imposed in European legislation since year 2000, but the legislation left open a back door for its suspension if the overall effect did not show positive results. During past decade it has been debated very often about effects of DST. Although many studies have concluded that DST has positive effect on energy savings in buildings in middle latitudes, there are still arguments that DST is causing loses in other areas of economy.
Many literature surveys have concluded that positive effect of DST on energy consumption in buildings is very small and highly dependable on latitude. This paper investigates how the application of DST in Belgrade climate and latitude influences the change of energy demand in highly glazed office spaces. Office buildings are used for work mainly during daytime, so it might be assumed that the influence of clock shift during summer period has high potential for change in utilisation of environmental energy resources.

AB - Construction projects always involve a large number of participants, and managing a vast amount of information is necessary. Additionally, each project is unique, further complicating management challenges. Construction projects are exposed to a wide range of risks. These problems have been recognized, leading to the emergence of the need for new project management systems using information technology. The fundamental idea of Building Information Modeling (BIM) is to create a digital model of a building, which also serves as a centralized database to be used in all project lifecycle stages. This paper aims to present the achievements so far in the context of 4D and 5D BIM, demonstrating its capabilities through an example in the construction phase of a building.

AB - The modern world faces serious challenges associated with the presence of stray dogs on the streets, especially in urban areas. Vardar Planning Region in North Macedonia, which consists of nine municipalities, experiences such challenges. According to current reports, the number of stray dogs on the streets of cities in this region has increased, which has resulted in an increase in the number of dog attacks on residents. As the existing capacities are small in the registered shelters, we considered the possibility of building a new shelter for stray dogs to meet the needs of this region. The goal of our paper is the evaluation of the financial and socio-economic justifications for the construction of a shelter for stray dogs in the Vardar Planning Region (VPR). The results of the financial justification analysis show that the project does not provide satisfactory financial results. Namely, the Financial Net Present Value (FNPV) is negative, with a value of EUR 75,291. The Financial Internal Rate of Return (FIRR) is 0.57%, lower than the discount rate, which is not acceptable for a private investor. The Financial Benefit–Cost Ratio (FB/CR) of this project is 0.925, suggesting that the total discounted costs are greater than the total discounted revenues. On the other hand, the expected socio-economic benefits from this project are multifaceted, including savings in stray dog bite costs, savings in the cost of traffic accidents caused by stray dogs, and savings in the treatment of diseases caused by stray dogs. The results of the economic analysis show that this investment has full socio-economic justification and that it should be implemented. The Economic Net Present Value (ENPV) is positive and amounts to EUR 789,916. The Economic Internal Rate of Return (EIRR) is 25.94% and the Economic Benefit–Cost Ratio (EB/CR) amounts to 1.90, i.e., greater than 1. The results of the sensitivity analysis also confirm the justification for the realization of this project.

AB - Contemporary controversy about daylight saving time (DST) is mainly derived from different standpoints in studies investigating the positive and negative effects of the clock shift during summer period. From the standpoint of energy savings, most studies have consensus that the summertime clock shift in middle latitudes, with a large difference between winter and summer daylight hours, contributes to energy savings in buildings. Belgrade’s mid-latitude, moderate-continental climate has a six-month long heating season and a three-month cooling season. The annual domination of the heating period assumes that the demand for heating energy also dominates in the annual energy breakdown for average office buildings. Since DST covers mainly summer time, the energy breakdown in office buildings during the DST period is dominated by the energy demand for lighting and cooling. The shift of time ahead of standard time during the DST period causes a shift in temperature, daylight availability and solar energy resources and thus a shift in the potential for the utilisation of the surrounding energy. This paper investigates how the application of DST in Belgrade’s climate and latitude influences the change of climate parameters relevant for the cooling and lighting energy demand in office buildings.

AB - Office buildings have high standards for lighting requirements, which greatly contribute to high lighting energy consumption. Daylight utilization is one of the means to reduce it. The goal of this paper is to evaluate daylight utilization potentials in Belgrade climate in order to generate initial design guideline for highly glazed small, individual office spaces. Daylight availability and its lighting energy implications are analyzed using computer simulation tool DIVA for Rhino. Selected individual office space is modelled as a narrow rectangular space, sidelit and highly glazed. Parametric analysis was carried out for: four different glazing ratios (50, 60, 70, and 85%), four glazing types with different visible transmittance properties (80, 72, 62, and 54%), and four different major orientations. Since this analysis is evaluating daylight utilization potentials, no shades or external obstructions were considered. The major results of this study indicate high potential for daylight utilization in office buildings in Belgrade. Daylight utilization in single offices is reaching its maximum in model with 70% window-to-wall ratio for all office orientations except north orientation, where daylight utilization is reaching its maximum at maximum window-to-wall ratio. Also, north orientated spaces have highest benefits from utilization of useful diffuse daylight. Direct sunlight and size and shape of facade aperture above working plane are determining factors for utilization of daylight in office spaces.

abstract = "Office buildings have high standards for lighting requirements, which greatly contribute to high lighting energy consumption. Belgrade's mid-latitude, moderate-continental climate has a six-month long heating season and a three-month cooling season. This paper investigates how the application of DST in Belgrade's climate and latitude influences the change of climate parameters relevant for the cooling and lighting energy demand in office buildings.

AB - The subject of this research is the Life cycle costs analysis of the building in order to evaluate the economic efficiency and cost-effectiveness of investments in various variants of application of active solar systems in aim to achieve the reduction of energy consumption and environmental pollution. Different variants of solar thermal collector’s application to the existing prefabricated residential building in the settlement Konjarnik in Belgrade, Serbia, are considered from the economic point of view. Cost-effectiveness and feasibility of various scenarios of energy optimization achieved by application of solar thermal collectors into the building envelope are evaluated on the basis of final energy consumption (within the EU-ISO standards). The methodological approach involves the analysis of the costs of energy consumption for water heating, financial analysis of costs and savings over the life cycle of the existing building in case of solar thermal collectors’ application to the building envelope as well as a comparative analysis of achieved results. Criteria for the economic analysis include the amount of investment, energy costs and life cycle costs of the building. According to the adopted criteria, the most suitable models are selected. This methodological approach is generally applicable in the analysis of investments in improvement of building energy performances, while possible technical solutions and the resulting economic benefits must be carefully considered.

AB - In everyday architectural practice parameters affecting daylight are not often taken into account. Usually the relationship between opaque and transparent parts of the facade is defined by functional or aesthetic parameters or resulting from use of legally defined minimum as percentage relative to the room area. In this way, artificial lighting is used more often because daylighting is not sufficient and not enabling visual comfort. As a result, energy efficiency of the building is lowered and CO2 emission higher. Methodology for assessment of daylight utilisation is developed for highly glazed office buildings for Belgrade climate conditions. Parameter analysis is based on variation of elements defining space aesthetic and volumetric characteristics like space geometry, window size, and window pattern or glazing system. This methodology is based on criteria selection for architectural parameters that create computational model (scene) where the effects of surrounding area and interior reflections are neutralized or minimized while the daylight distribution and intensity in the interior are dominantly influenced by glazed facade. As a result, this methodology provides more precise comparison of facade glazing system influence (its size, pattern and quality) on daylight utilisation for given climate conditions and facade orientation. Developed methodology is described in the paper. The results of the methodology are enabling architects to define optimal facades, concerning the percentage, position of glazed surfaces and type of glass used. Designing optimal daylighting in office buildings results in saving energy otherwise used for artificial lighting and reducing CO2 emission.

AB - Mnoga prigradska naselja su izgrađena u Beogradu posle Drugog svetskog rata.

AB - The main concern of this research is building refurbishment. Different possibilities of energy performances improvement of existing dwelling housing in the settlement Konjarnik, Belgrade, Serbia, are estimated from energy and economic point of view. Two hypothetical models of improvement of building envelope are created. Different solutions for reduction of energy consumption for heating of existing dwelling housing as well as reduction of CO2 emissions are considered in economic analyses. Economic analyses use BLCC (Building Life Cycle Cost) software which produces multileveled grading of building scenarios and comparative analyses of grading results. The comparative analyses take into account initial building investments and energy cost savings through certain period of building`s use. The overall behaviour of different scenarios is measured according to: (a) initial/capital investments, (b) energy costs (c) operating, maintenance, and repair (OM&R) costs and (d) capital replacement costs. Results of the analyses are used as quantitative inputs for investment decision making.
