AB  - U ovom radu ispitani su različiti tipovi kompozitnih materijala, koji su po sastavu većim delom od cementa, a jednim delom od recikliranog otpadnog praškastog materijala, neutrala. Ispitivanja su obuhvatila uticaj kompozitnih materijala na kvalitet vode u šaržnom sistemu. Ispitani su ključni parametri na osnovu kojih se može oceniti uticaj na promenu kvaliteta vode. Deo materijala čini i reciklirani otpadni materijal koji ima komercijalni naziv „neutral“. Neutral nastaje od sirovine koju predstavljaju različiti tipovi (često opasnog) otpada, koji se u reaktoru sa kalcijum-oksidom prevodi u prah koji se može koristiti kao beozopasan. Ovo istraživanje predstavlja preliminarna ispitivanja koaj će ukazati na mogućnost korišćenja neutrala kao materijal koji bi, u kontaktu sa vodom, otpuštao zagađujuće materije u ekološki prihvatljivom obimu i/ili ne.

AB  - This study aims to assess the feasibility of using copper slag (CS) in asphalt mixtures in both the surface and base
layers of road pavements. For this purpose, two sets of asphalt mixtures with different CS content (15 and 30%)
and fraction sizes (0/8 and 0/16 mm) were prepared. The optimal binder content of each mixture was determined
using the Marshall mix design method. Their laboratory performances were investigated and compared
with the properties of reference asphalt mixtures, i.e. mixtures consisting exclusively of virgin materials. Test
results showed that adding CS to the mixture for the surface layer improved stiffness and rutting resistance and
had almost no negative impacts on the remaining properties apart from cracking resistance. Further, the addition
of CS to the base-layer mixture improved cracking resistance, but negatively affected stiffness, rutting and fatigue
resistance. In both cases, adding CS did not influence the strength, water sensitivity or freeze–thaw resistance.
From a leaching perspective, the results showed that leachates gathered from the asphalt mixtures designed for
the surface layer did not contain heavy metals. Overall, it can be concluded that CS has a potential to be used as
an appropriate aggregate substitute for virgin aggregates in asphalt mixtures for both surface and base layers.

AB  - Koncept korišćenja otpadnih materijala uz nastanak novih, korisnih materijala predstavlja primenu koncepta nula otpada. Ideja je da se materijali koriste za bolje upravljanje poplavama u gradovima. AB  - Prisustvo organskih boja u otpadnim vodama, većinom poreklom iz tekstilne industrije, može da prouzrokuje dugoročne štetne efekte na floru i fauni usled značajne stabilnosti i toksičnosti pri vrlo malim koncentracijama. Fotokatalitičko prečišćavanje otpadnih voda predstavlja jedan od najjednostavnijih i po okolinu najpovoljnijih procesa (neograničen izvor sunčevog zračenja, blagi reakcioni uslovi i potpuna demineralizacija polutanata). Bimetalni fotokatalizatori, ZnAl i ZnCr, mešoviti oksidi su sintetisani i ispitivani fotokataličkim reakcijama razgradnje različitih organskih boja (rodamin B i brilijant krezil plavo). Pored toga izvršena je strukturna i teksturalna karakterizacija. Zapažena je velika fotokatalitička aktivnost oba uzorka, gde je postignuta kompletna dekolorizacija (100%) brilijant krezil plavog polutanta, dok je efikasnost razgradnje rodamin B oko 75% za ZnAl i oko 50% za ZnCr fotokatalizator. Rezultati istraživanja ukazuju na značajan potencijal primene ovih bimetalnih mešovitih oksida u procesima fotokatalitičkog prečišćavanja otpadnih voda.

AB  - Летећи пепео (ЛП) је нуспроизвод сагоревања чврстих горива. У уводном делу рада дат је осврт на настанак (порекло), хемијски састав и класификацију летећег пепела. ЛП je прашкаста, чврста супстанца чији хемијски састав чини несагорели угљеник, метални оксиди (Si, Fe, Ca и Al) и друге неорганске супстанце. Структурна анализа сировог и модификованог узорка ЛП даје смернице ка потенцијалној промени ЛП. У другом делу рада наведене су и описане области примене ЛП. Примена ЛП налази своје место: у синтези зеолита, у индустрији керамике, у пречишћавању отпадних вода, у сорпционим материјалима. Летећи пепео има потенцијалну примену за  побољшање деградираног земљишта, а. користи се и као замена за сировину у грађевинској индустрији или као адитив у индустрији цемента. Летећи пепео је, због повољних геомеханичких и геотехничких карактеристика, нашао примену и у изградњи насипа. Такође, летећи пепео се користи за изградњу брана од ваљаног бетона. У Србији се данас ЛП користи за ободне насипе на депонијама 
пепела.
AB  - Fly ash (FА) is a by-product of solid fuels burning. In the introductory part of the paper, an overview of the origin, chemical composition and classification of fly ash is given. FА is a powdery, solid substance whose chemical composition consists of unburnt carbon, metal oxides (Si, Fe, Ca and Al) and other inorganic substances. Structural analysis of the raw and modified FА sample provides guidance towards potential FА change. In the second part of the paper, the areas of FА application are listed and described. The application of fly ash finds its place: in the synthesis of zeolites, in the ceramics industry, in the purification of wastewater and in sorption materials. Fly ash has potential applications for improving degraded soils. Fly ash is used as a substitute for raw material in the construction industry or as an additive in the cement industry. Due to favourable geomechanical and geotechnical characteristics, FA has also found application in the construction 
of embankments. Fly ash is also used for Roller Compacted Concrete Dams. In Serbia, FA is used for containment embankments at ash impoundments of Thermal Power Plants.

Due to favourable geomechanical and geotechnical characteristics, FA has also found application in the construction 
of embankments. Fly ash is also used for Roller Compacted Concrete Dams. In Serbia, FA is used for containment embankments at ash impoundments of Thermal Power Plants.",

AB  - Various organic pollutants are discharged into the water from chemical, textile and
pharmaceutical industries every day. The photocatalytic wastewater treatment is an efficient,
cheap and eco-friendly process for the removal of organic toxic dyes, such as methylene blue,
which is one of the most common toxic dyes in wastewater. Photocatalysts ZnCr mixed
oxides were synthesized and thermally treated at 500 and 900 °C. Their efficiency in
photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue and the influence of the reaction parameters
were studied. High photocatalytic activity of both samples was observed, where the complete
decolorization (100%) and partial decolorization (45%) of the aqueous solution of methylene
blue were achieved after 6 hours for ZnCr 900 and ZnCr 500, respectively. In order to
determine the influence of the pH on the photocatalytic effieciency, the photodegradation
reactions were conducted using better performing photocatalyst at different pH values,
measuring the photodegradation efficiency at the same time intervals. The optimal pH
resulting in the most efficient photodegradation for ZnCr 900 photocatalyst was observed at
pH 12, which could be explained by the correlation with different textural and structural
properties of photocatalysts. The results showed that the obtained ZnCr mixed oxides are
highly efficient in the methylene blue photodegradation and have a great potential for the
application in the photocatalytic wastewater treatment processes.

AB  - Снабдевање насеља водом је комунална услуга од виталног значаја за опстанак и развој
људског друштва. Водоводни системи су рањиви на ненамерне и намерне претње, који могу
укључивати различите аспекте угрожавања рада система или загађње воде. У случају појаве
угрожавања безбедности водовода могу се јавити смањење испоручених количина воде или
погоршање квалитета воде испоручене потрошачима. У случају погоршања квалитета воде за
пиће неопходно је да се минимизирају потенцијални здравствени ризици по становништво.
Савремене тенденције у овој области препоручују да процес успостављања и одржавања
потребног нивоа безбедности снабдевања водом за пиће треба да укључи израду и
имплементацију плана безбедности водоснабдевања, који обухвата следеће четири фазе:
планирање и припрема, заштита (детекција и потврда догађаја), одговор (планирање и
управљање догађајем), санација и опоравак. Планирање безбедности снабдевања водом ће
помоћи да се идентификују и утврде рањивости система и мере за рано откривање акцидената,
укључујући комуникацијску стратегију како би се омогућио брз и ефикасан одговор. Овја рад
ће дати преглед циљева, потребних активности и очекиваних резултата везаних за припрему и
имплементацију планова безбедности снабдевања водом.

AB  - Waste and recycled materials have recently been used in the construction industry to comply with the principles of circular economy and sustainable development. The aim of this paper is to examine the potentials of solidified wastewater treatment sludge (SWWTS) as a supplementary cementitious material (SCM) in the production of lightweight pervious concrete pavers (LWPCP) suitable for pedestrian trails and rooftops (green) that comply with EU standards. Detailed characterization of SWWTS was performed, in order to understand its properties related to application as SCM, which led to the conclusion that it may be applied only as a filler, having 89.5% of Ca(OH)2. After thorough characterization, LWPCP samples were prepared and testing of physical and mechanical properties was conducted. The research showed that partial replacement of cement with SWWTS led to the decrease of all mechanical properties, ranging between 3.91 and 5.81 MPa for compressive strength and 0.97 to 1.23 MPa for flexural strength. However, all of the investigated mixtures showed a value higher than 3.5 MPa, which was defined as the lowest compressive strength in the range of pervious concrete properties. The addition of SWWTS led to a slight decrease in bulk density of the mixtures and an increase in water absorption. This could be explained by the reduction in hydration products that would fill in the micropores of the matrix, since SWWTS showed no pozzolanic reactivity. Pore sizes that prevail in the tested binder matrices are in accordance with the results measured on ordinary pervious concrete (the largest fraction of pores had a diameter between 0.02 and 0.2 μm). Low thermal conductivity nominates produced pavers as potential rooftop elements.

AB  - Selection of the optimal method for the removal of heavy metals remains a scientific challenge in terms of efficiency, cost-effectiveness and preservation of environment. In this paper, the aim of the study was to remove the zinc ions (Zn2+) from a sample of real waste water from galvanizing plant. Method of electrocoagulation (EC), which is based on the separation of the solid phase, formed by the presence of dissolved ions from inserted electrode, has been tested and applied within this research. Based on the results obtained by electrocoagulation, it can be concluded that the method is efficient and can quickly remove zinc ions from solution. The optimal removal was achieved when concentration of Zn2+ ions was reduced from 46.9 to 1.89 mg/L, after 10 minutes of laboratory EC.

Značaj monitoringa kvaliteta vode u jezerima hidroelektrana

AB  - Pri planiranju akumulacionih hidroelektrana, važan segment je i adekvatan monitoring kvaliteta vode. Uz odgovarajući monitoring program omogućava se višenamensko korišćenje veštačkih jezera. Eutrofikacija vode u jezeru je fenomen koji je prisutan kod svih jezera. Posledica eutrofikacije jeste ugroženost akvatičnog ekosistema. Eutrofikacija je fenomen koji nastaje kao odgovor akvatičnog ekosistema na povećanu koncentraciju nutrijenata, fosfora (P) i azota (N), usled prirodnih i antropogenih aktivnosti.  Pored osnovnih, klasičnih pokazatelja kvaliteta vode koji su u korelaciji sa eutrofikacijom najnovija istraživanja pokazuju da su jezera sve više izložena eutrofikaciji usled klimatskih promena i opšte prisutnog zagađenja životne sredine. U ovom radu prikazani su rezultati analize kvaliteta vode reke Komarnice, u Crnoj Gori na kojoj se planira izgradnja akumulacione pribranske HE Komarnica. Ključni zaključci istraživanja su: uvesti monitoring (permanentnu kontrolu) kvaliteta vode u jezerima kako bi se što uspešnije kontrolisala i sprečila eutrofikacija. Izuzetno je važno razumeti da ne postoji jedinstvena jednačina ili formula koja bi mogla da važi za monitoring svih jezera. Svako jezero ima svoje jedinstvene karakteristike. Zavisnost hlorofila, koncentracije fosfora i zapremine jezera menja se u zavisnosti od meseca, sezone i godine. Predlog za monitoring kvaliteta vode na jezeru koje će biti izgrađeno na Komarnici, koje predstavlja deo sistema buduće hidroelektrane je mesečno praćenje koncentracije hlorofila, nutrijenata i zapremine jezera.  Sezonsko praćenje zavisi od padavina, hidroloških i limnoloških karakteristika i trendova sušnih i kišnih epizoda. Analize i dosadašnja istraživanja su pokazala da uvođenje obaveznih parametara za praćenje kvaliteta vode ne poskupljuje proizvodnju električne energije i očuvanje energije, a značajno poboljšava i unapređuje kvalitet životne sredine.
AB  - When planning the construction of a hydroelectric power plant, an important segment is adequate monitoring of water quality. With an appropriate monitoring program, the multifunctional use of artificial lakes is enabled. Eutrophication (nutrient over-enrichment) of water in a lake is a phenomenon that has been noticed in all lakes. The consequence of eutrophication is the endangerment of the aquatic ecosystem. Eutrophication is a phenomenon that occurs as a response of the aquatic ecosystem to the increased concentration of nutrients, phosphorus (P) and nitrogen (N), due to natural and anthropogenic activities. Recent research indicates a correlation between local climate change and water circulation and the impact of climate change on all phenomena in the hydrological cycle. Temperature fluctuations, huge amounts of rain when precipitation is analysed, constant heating and increase in humidity all affect more intense eutrophication. The key conclusions of the research dealing with the construction of the hydroelectric power plant in Komarnica are: to introduce monitoring (permanent control) of water quality in lakes in order to minimize or control, even prevent eutrophication. Each artificial lake has its own unique characteristics. The dependence of chlorophyll, phosphorus and lake volume varies depending on the month, season and year. The proposal for the lake that will be built on Komarnica, which is part of the future hydroelectric power plant, is a monthly monitoring of the concentration of chlorophyll, nutrients and the volume of the lake. Seasonal monitoring depends on precipitation, hydrological and limnological characteristics and trends of dry and rainy episodes. Analyzes and previous research have shown that the introduction of mandatory parameters for monitoring water quality does not increase the cost of electricity production and energy conservation, but significantly improves and enhances the quality of the environment.

AB  - Prečišćavanje sirove vode do nivoa neophodnog da bi se ona koristila za vodosnabdevanje naselja predstavlja veliki izazov, naročito imajući u vidu da sirova voda nikada nije opterećena samo jednim parametrom zagađenja. Napretkom tehnologija za prečišćavanje vode, posebno membranskih tehnologija, efikasnost tretmana postala je daleko veća. Postavlja se pitanje koja tehnologija je optimalna, u pogledu odstranjivanja štetnih materija, ekonomskih, ekoloških dobiti, itd. U izboru optimalne tehnologije tretmana vode značajnu pomoć mogu da pruže metode višekriterijmske optimizacije. U slučaju koji je razmatran u okviru ovog rada primenjene su metode VIKOR i AHP na izbor optimalne konfiguracije postrojenja za omekšavanje vode bazirane na nanofiltraciji. Metoda VIKOR pokazala je bolji uvid u u fizičke karakteristike parametara i značajniju objektivnost donosioca odluke u odnosu na metodu AHP.
AB  - Treatment of raw water in order to achieve quality requred for drinking water can be a major challenge, especially considering that raw water usually contains more than one pollutiant. With the advancement of water treatment technologies, especially membrane technologies, the efficiency of water purification has been increasing. The question is which technology is optimal, in terms of removal of pollutants, economic, environmental benefits and other criteria. Methods of multi-criteria optimization can provide significant assistence in choosing the optimal water treatment technology. In this paper, the VIKOR and AHP methods were applied for selection of optimal drinking water treatment scheme of water softening plant based on nanofiltration. The VIKOR method showed a better insight into the physical characteristics of the  water quality parameters and a more significant objectivity of the decision maker in relation to the AHP method.

AB  - U ovom radu prikazana je analiza kvaliteta vode reke Komarnice pre izgradnje brane i hidroelektrane. Konkretne karakteristike okoline, dimenzije objekta definišu uticaje na životnu sredinu, kao i uticaje životne sredine na akumulacije. Pozitivni uticaji su: vodosnabdevanje, navodnjavanje, rekreativne i turističke ponude. Najvažniji negativni uticaji su: promena kvaliteta vode, uticaj na priobalje i zemljište. U radu je prikazan kvalitet vode pre izgradnje brane Komarnica, kao polazna osnova za poređenje i analizu promena koje  se očekuju nakon izgradnje te brane. AB  - This paper presents an analysis of the water quality of the Komarnica River before the construction of the dam and hydropower plant. Impacts that are positive, and due to which dams are built, refer to water supply, irrigation, recreational and tourist offers. The most important negative impacts are the changes in water quality, the impact on the coast and land. The paper presents the water quality before the construction of the Komarnica dam, and the changes expected after the construction of the dam. By choosing the right measures, it is possible to avoid or greatly mitigate the eutrophication process.

AB  - In this research the object of the analysis was the improvement of drinking water treatment plant, while groundwater being a source of drinking water.
Improvements include the removal of magnesium and manganese. Improvements also mean choosing the proper water treatment technology that would meet the standards for drinking water quality. Technologies that are suitable for removal of these ions vary in many aspects, from technological challenges to cost analysis. After thorough analysis, the right choice, in this case, was two-stage nanofiltration (NF) which has a removal rate of more than 90%. The analysis also included detailed cost analysis.

Lime was not considered, ion exchange was an option, but membrane technologies were the ones that meet all the criteria. Since reverse osmosis (RO) is very expensive, and nanofiltration (NF) meets the required removal demands, meaning removal of divalent ions, it has been selected as the right choice for this case.

AB  - This study focuses on the use of raw fly ash (FA) and modified fly ash - activated by lime (MFA), as effective and low-cost adsorbents for the removal of heavy metals (Zn2+, Pb2+ and As(V)), followed by the revalorization of the exhausted adsorbent. The granulometric, elemental analysis, point of zero charge (pH(pzc), radiochemical and structural characterization were conducted using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and gamma spectrometry techniques. The optimal conditions and key factors influencing the adsorption process were assessed using the response surface method (RSM). The adsorption capacity of the MFA adsorbent for Zn2+, Pb2+ and As(V) removal, calculated by the Langmuir model, was found to be 33.13, 26.06, and 29.71 mg g(-1), respectively. The kinetic and thermodynamic parameters indicated that the adsorption process is spontaneous and endothermic. Due to their low desorption potential of the exhausted adsorbents, their effective reuse was established to be feasible. For this reason, the valorization of this material as an additive in construction materials was thereafter studied, where testing its toxicity leaching (TCLP) as well as the mechanical properties of construction material containing exhausted MFA confirmed its safe use. Hence, this study points to a possible "two-in-one" reuse of coal ash, initially as an adsorbent and later as an additive in a construction material.

Build-up and characterisation of pollutants on urban impervious surfaces

AB  - This paper presents the results of the investigation of pollutant build-up on impervious surfaces of a parking lot in Belgrade, Serbia during the summer months. Contaminant build-up was found to be greater on asphalt surfaces directly exposed to vehicular traffic than on concrete walkways. The difference in the amounts of accumulated pollutants between asphalt and concrete were significant: for total solids (TS), total suspended solids (TSS), chemical oxygen demand (COD), heavy metals and total phosphorus (TP) accumulations were two to three times higher, while only 30% higher for total nitrogen (TN) and anions. Build-up of most of the measured parameters was best described by power functions. The highest surface loads were found for solids, COD, iron and zinc. A strong correlation was found between turbidity, TS, TSS, COD, heavy metals and phosphorus, while conductivity, nitrates and nitrites were weakly correlated to other parameters.
